Architecture Wednesday: Lauriston House

Lauriston House is an impressive contemporary home near Kyneton, Victoria, Australia. It’s simple, open, with expansive views, and is about 4,000 square feet so it’s rather large. But its most striking feature is the roof, an undulating structure that runs the entirety of the building, which is formed almost completely by clear glass walls.

The home then reflects the rolling hills and rows of olive trees that dot the property; local materials were used to build the home, such as Messmate timber for the linings of the ceiling and the flooring planks, and French bluestone similar to that used on the colonial footpaths of Piper Street in nearby Kyneton.

It’s open and dramatic, and yet quite simple, minimalistic, and seems to move along with the landscape.

  1. I don't like this, and I don't know why.

  2. I have to agree with Deedles. I have a headache living there. Very bizarre home.

  3. Exterior looks a bit to me like an airport terminal or hangar. But I love the grounds and the interiors (and views).
