Matthew McConaughey, actor, a native of Uvalde, Texas, telling
the stories of those who died at Robb Elementary:
"You could feel the shock in the town. You could feel
the pain, the denial, the disillusion, anger, blame, sadness, loss of lives,
dreams halted. You know what every one of these parents wanted, what they asked
us for? ... That they want their children's dreams to live on. That they want their
children's dreams to continue, to accomplish something after they are gone.
They want to make their loss of life matter. [Meaningful gun legislation reform,
universal background checks, raising the minimum age for purchasing an AR-15 to
21, a waiting period for purchasing AR-15s and the implementation of red flag
laws] are reasonable, practical, tactical regulations to our nation, states,
communities, schools and homes. Responsible gun owners are fed up with the
Second Amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals. These
regulations are not a step back—they're a step forward for a civil society and,
and the Second Amendment. ... We got to
take a sober, humble, and honest look in the mirror and rebrand ourselves based
on what we truly value. What we truly value. We got to get some real courage
and honor our immortal obligations instead of our party affiliations. Enough
with the counterpunching. Enough of the invalidation of the other side. Let's
come to the common table that represents the American people. Find a middle
ground, the place where most of us Americans live anyway. Especially on this
issue. Because I promise you, America, you and me, we are not as divided as we
are being told we are."
McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, spent most of the
past week with the families of those who were killed in his hometown. He showed
pictures of their artwork and brought to the briefing room green Converse shoes
like the ones that one girl wore every day that were used to identify her body
after the shooting. She had drawn a heart on one of the shoes.
We’re killing children in America and one party doesn’t want
to act in any way that inhibits the NRA from making money. They value what is a
domestic terror organization over the lives of children.
CAST A GODDAMNED VOTE.

You know, the Repugnants may be right about it being doors that cause the problem! Here in the UK all our doors in schools are pentagonal, which probably confuses the shooter who will go and lie down in the playground and cry, having lost his toy cowboy gun or space laser en route.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to put the GOP behind locked doors.
DeleteDoesn't Blake Masters sound like a badly named Porn star? I'm sure that was a double snap for Pete. Way to go Rebel, you... rebel. And, finally, gun lovers hated McConnaughy's speech because he made people cry for children.
ReplyDeleteBlake Masters is the new GOP. No hiding their racism any longer. Just say it out loud.
Delete(Pete Buttigieg)
ReplyDeletexoxo :-)
I am a huge fan of common sense, which Pete has like mad.

I learned about Rebel yesterday. Totally caught off guard cause my gaydar was totally silent with her. Great timing, too! Happy Pride, Rebel!
ReplyDeletePete, darling. You need to have my phone number.
And when Matthew McConaughey IS the voice of reason... The Repugs are fucked.
XOXO
Funny the GOP is saying don't listen to McConaughey because he's a "celebrity," yet they worship Thing 45, Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. Yes, they are that ignorant.

I hadn't heard about Rebel and her new partner! Good for her. Pete Buttigieg will be a fantastic president one of these days. Blake Masters is a slimeball but unfortunately that kind of racist talk appeals to a lot of voters. That's the greatest shame of all.
ReplyDeleteNot that he is wrong that black-on-black crime is a huge problem, but to write it off that way without acknowledging the neighborhood conditions and economic, legal and social issues that help create that problem -- well, as I said, it's racist.
DeleteJust to label an entire group of people as THE cause of gun violence in this country, unless it's Republicans, gun nuts and the NRA, is ludicrous.
DeleteAbsolutely!
DeleteCool that Rebel Wilson has come out!
ReplyDeleteThis one caught me by surprise because I had no idea! Glad she found her Princess!
DeletePete Buttigieg is the best. What a good comeback to that idiot Ted Cruz.
ReplyDeleteIt was sly, but spot on.
DeleteYes....We need many more Pete's mixed with some progressives in DC.
ReplyDeletePete, pardon the pun, speaks straight.
DeletePete's home state of Indiana is definitely one of the biggest exporters of gun violence in the Midwest. Damn republican gun policies
ReplyDeleteIt's not guns, it's doors and rap music and Black people and unarmed teachers and not enough guns and and and and
