So it’s Pride month and all these companies are updating their logos to be queer-friendly, to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. But are they, really, allies? Democrat Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is taking on these companies who trot out their queer-friendly ads and logos every year but the other eleven months donate to decidedly anti-LGBTRQ+ causes and politicians. Jayapal used Twitter, and screenshots of companies who’ve changed their social media graphics to “show Pride”, to bring the receipts on how much money they’ve paid to block pro-LGBTQ legislation: In addition to Jayapal throwing shade at AT&T, the company is also being held accountable by the #KeepYourPride campaign that also targets ALLEGED allies who are funding anti-LGBTQ+ politicians who actively harm the community. The group is also focusing on Anheuser-Busch, NBCUniversal, General Motors, and Coca-Cola. We don’t need your faux-Pride once a year, we need allies all year-long who stand with us, not behind us putting a knife in our backs. |

ReplyDeleteAt least they did not succumb to GOP pressure not to post anything at all. I am glad for this one thing.
This is why diversity is a critical necessity in congress. Jayapal is calling out the hollow men.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that my supermarket had updated their logo for this month; I don't know if they support LGBT charities but they certainly support food banks. As for these hypocritical companies, looking to make money off the pink $ while funding GQP bigots, presumably they are hoping for another ginormous company tax cut next time the GQP are in control.

ReplyDeleteSadly, though not a surprise, we didn't see one GQPer comment on this.
@brewells
The hollow men! I love that! Speaks volumes.
@Helen
I'd like to see these companies put their money into LGBTQ+_ causes year-round rather than painting a rainbow on themselves every June.
Oh, she is reading them for FILTH. And I'm here for it.
ReplyDeleteThe commodification of Pride needs to stop.
XOXO
@Six
ReplyDeleteI love her for speaking up and out and loud!
I can't boycott those companies because I already don't do business with any of them.
ReplyDeleteI lied. I go to Walmart for Nabisco Original Graham Crackers because no other store in New Mexico (that I know of) carries them. I am addicted.
ReplyDeleteI have been around the world a few times and have been complaining/bitching about this for years...Every time Pride comes around companies are trying to get into my wallet...For years I loved going to the Pride marches but gave a side-eye to the festivals...You know where all the tents are and they sell stuff...It was one company after another trying to sell me something...It was like their Christmas II...I would just breeze through like a kid on sugar...I love the locals who are displaying their crafts and other items of interest but the companies...I understand branding but I was never a fan of logos on clothes or other items...Sorry, you will have to pay me to shill for you...Pass...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great thing to do, however, all these companies are interested in is paying zippo taxes, and Moscow Mitch is pleased, and his cohorts, is pleased as punch to oblige.

Well you know how i feel about this. We aren't circus animals to make a buck off. Either you support us or you don't. Your full and fake "monthly support" is neither required or desired.
ReplyDeleteYes, call them out!
ReplyDeleteYes to Jayapal and sharing the truth.
ReplyDeleteLove this. The corporate hypocrisy! You don't get to have it both ways, dears - despite what those silly bisexuals keep telling us - It's us or them. Choose. I will do my best to never support any of these ass wipe corps. And that Pramila! Such a firecracker. I lover her. She looks like she would be fun at happy hours. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that. Kudos to Jayapal for looking beyond the corporate rainbow-washing.
