Architecture Wednesday: Villa AH

Ah, Portugal, and the oddly named Villa AH.

It’s a new build but designed and built to not only withstand the harsh climate and fierce beach winds, but to look as though it has been there for centuries.

But so many of those old homes are actual fortresses and the owners wanted none of that; no dark rooms and closed off spaces. The goal was to allow as much bright natural Algarvian light to flood into every single room, and to open the house to the gardens and the sea beyond.

A much more modern open concept layout was chosen to allow for free-flowing movement between the patio, the kitchen, the living area and the smallest bedroom. And upstairs, in the master bedroom and bath, enormous windows frame the views and allow light to fill the entire second floor.

The whole house is dreamy, inside and out, and I’d like to wake up there.

  1. Very nice, but I'd really have to splash it with color.
