Obviously as a fictional character he’s intended to be heterosexual, but the basis of the whole concept is utterly gay. All these women fancy him and they all wear fetish clothes and jump around rooftops to get to him. He doesn’t care — he’s more interested in hanging out with the old guy and the kid."

C'mon, the comic book characters wears tights with a bulging crotch and lives with a hot young Robin.

And don't get me started on the Batsuit nipple controversy.

Dominic Dieter, Cleveland radio personality Dominic Dieter, apologizing--in a way--for his earlier comment that a man's gay daughter needed to have the Lesbian "raped" out of her:

"I just wanted to say that, I know on the show this past Friday I made some comments that people found....considered to be offensive. And I just wanted to say, I understand why people are angry.  I want to genuinely apologize to anyone who may have been offended by what I said. I regret what I did say. My comments were inappropriate.  They were inexcusable, and just downright stupid. And I want to make it clear; there was absolutely no intention to promote physical or sexual violence.  And I’m truly; truly sorry by my poor choice of words that led people to believe otherwise.  Again, Rover....I just want to apologize for any pain I might have caused....I ask people to find it in their hearts to forgive me.  I am sorry for the words that I did say. "

Okay, first he pisses me off with his "people found ... to be offensive."

I didn't find them offensive, they were offensive.

But, in the end the apology seems sincere, though, it makes me wonder: if people actually took a moment, before speaking, and thought about what they were planning to say, they might reconsider saying it.

Maureen Dowd, on the Vatican's order to punish nuns that don't publicly oppose gay marriage:

"Even as Republicans try to wrestle women into chastity belts, the Vatican is trying to muzzle American nuns. Who thinks it’s cool to bully nuns? While continuing to heal and educate, the community of sisters is aging and dying out because few younger women are willing to make such sacrifices for a church determined to bring women to heel. Yet the nuns must be yanked into line by the crepuscular, medieval men who run the Catholic Church. Just like I think a female President would be a great thing for this country [are you listening, Hillary?] I think a female Pope could really clean up the mess that men have made of the Catholic Church over the last hundreds of years.

Michelangelo Signorile, on how the resignation of openly gay Romney spokesman Richard Grenell is a win for the LGBT community:

"Why is it that a win? Because Grenell was being used for cover by a candidate with abhorrently antigay positions, a man who has promised to "propose and promote" a federal marriage amendment if elected president. I don't buy the argument made by some that it was a measure of progress that Romney hired a gay man as his foreign policy spokesperson when he's using that gay man to make himself appear moderate to independents while he's promising the GOP base that he'll make gay people into second class citizens. Actual progress in the GOP will come when their presidential candidates stop bowing to bigots and refuse to sign their extremist pledges. Otherwise, it's all window dressing."

Chelsea Clinton, coming out against North Carolina's Amendment One:

"I believe that everyone must stand up for what is right, whenever possible, wherever possible. Those are lessons I learned at a young age from my parents and they are guiding principles in my life. That is why I am joining you in opposing Amendment One in North Carolina. Amendment One unfairly targets women, children and families, gay and straight, who fall outside of the narrow definition of family articulated by those who drafted the legislation. It is our duty to join the fight on behalf of both the gay and lesbian North Carolinians who were the original targets of the amendment and the tens of thousands of straight male and female North Carolinians who will be collateral damage if the amendment passes next Tuesday."

Maybe Chelsea Clinton will be the first female president?

Anna Paquin, True Blood actress, on being bisexual:

"I’m sure for some people saying they’re bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they’re gay. For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision. It’s not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I’ve heard at this point. For a bisexual, it’s not about gender. That’s not the deciding factor for who they’re attracted to."

Sexuality, I believe, is on a sliding scale, with homosexuality at one end and heterosexuality at the other. And people fall all along the scale.

I, personally, fall very, very close to the totally gay end, because, well, that's me. Other people may fall close to one side or the other, or, like Paquin and Cynthia Nixon, smack dab in the middle.

But as long as they're open about it, and accepting about it, who are we to judge?

Random Musings

I just finished reading Guts by Kristen Johnston.

If you don't know her, she's an actress, most well-known for appearing on #rd Rock from the Sun. I never saw that show, because of a severe case of John Lithgow loathing, but I've always enjoyed Kristen on talk shows; she's quite funny, and very self-deprecating, and I am all about self-deprecating humor.

Oh, and humor aimed at others, too. But I digress,

Guts tells the story, and stories, of Kristen Johnston's life, as a Freak in school; of feeling like an 'other'--feelings which resonated with me as I reflected on my own school days, or daze. It also chronicles her addiction to pain medications and alcohol, and how, while appearing in a play in London, her stomach literally exploded.

Hence, Guts.

But it isn't all horror stories and drug addiction,. It's recovery, from the whole stomach thing and from addiction. it's the story of being different and feeling different, and how long it takes some of us, no matter what our circumstances, to realize we aren't different, we're just us.

It's hysterically written. You'll be laughing one minute and then be horrified the next, but it's a great, great story.

The GOP is taking Barack Obama to task for his alleged politicizing of the capture and death of Osama bin Laden.

Um, GOP? STFU.

See, bin Laden was captured and killed under his watch, so he has earned the right to talk about it.

And, if politicizing that bothers you, take a stroll back in time, to W's "Wanted: Dead or Alive" speech. Or even back to W's fighter pilot arrival on that aircraft carrier and the banner that said "Mission Accomplished" when it wasn't.

And then take a gander at W's 2004 re-election campaign when he used fear of reprisal from al Quaeda to win the election.

Oh, GOP, you're all so Bible-thumping, but you missed the passage about those who have have no sin casting the first stone.

Again, STFU.

Okay, when I first saw that Tan Mom--seriously, she doesn't look tan, she looks like a burn victim--who is in trouble for bringing her young child into a tanning booth with her, I was disgusted.

Then I saw the mom, who obviously has issues with her looks because she's addicted to tanning and looks at least twice her forty years. Her skin is as chewy and sick looking as leather, and all I could think of was the N-word.

Not that one: Naugahyde.

Seriously sad.

Richard Grenell says he was "hounded from the Romney campaign by anti-gay conservatives" and so he tendered his resignation.

Was it the anti-gay forces who bashed the Romney campaign for hiring an openly gay man when Mitt Romney clearly does not like the gays? Or, was he chased away by his own Tweets and his own words?

I think it was a combination of both. I mean, how can you have a spokesman who has Tweeted some very hurtful and harmful things about other public figures, including some homophobic Tweets about Rachel Maddow?

His self-loathing drove him from the campaign. His own words.

Sitting down to watch Smash this week, the show began with, of course, a fabulous showtune, "Another Opening, Another Show."

I was giddy as a schoolgirl, singing along, and trying to get Carlos to join in.

But, and I cannot fathom this, he said, while he may have heard the song before, he said, and I'm so sorry, He.Does.Not.Know.The.Words.

I am seriously afraid the Gay Mafia and the Showtune Squad will be knocking on our front door any minute asking for the return of his Gay Membership card, the Toaster Oven, and his copy of The Gay Agenda.

New book; er, books.

I have a tendency to read more than one book at a time. I was reading Stephen King's 11/22/63--which I found overly long...I mean, does every King book need to be 800 pages--while I was also reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay on my Kindle--Yes...I got a Kindle...though I will not stop buying 'real' books.

Now, I am onto The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta, which tells a story of The Rapture, which isn't really a Rapture, but more of a Sudden Departure because it didn't take all those God-fearing, God-worshipping folks, but it did take some of them, and some non-believers and, gasp, even some homosexuals.

So, what if The Rapture came and didn't take the ones who thought they should go? And what if it did take the ones who didn't believe? Or the ones who, according to those God-fearing-and-worshipping folks, shouldn't have been allowed to go? How do those Leftovers feel about being leftovers?

And, I am also reading The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon. 

It's an older book, first published in 1988, but I recently saw the movie based on the novel, and I really enjoyed it, so i decided to see what the novel was like.

It tells the about a young man, graduating from college, and how he spends that last summer before "life" is supposed to start. And how that last summer shapes what may, or may not, be his "life".

It's kind of a coming of age story, though, from what I saw in the film, it's also a coming to life story.

And, of course, I am scouring Amazon for a new Kindle read, so....there will be more. 

I've given up on Idol because, seriously, except for Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, none of the winners have had any great success. In fact, some of the losers have become more successful than the winners.

But, I was channel surfing the other night as the show started and I was stunned to see that Miss Ryan Seacrest is still coming down the big stairs as the show opens, like some sort of cheap Vegas showgirl.

Ego much.

And I'm also not much for The Voice. 

I don't care for Blake Shelton or Adam Levine, and Cee Lo's little tiny hands kinda scare me. I do enjoy, though, watching to see how drunk Christina is acting.

But then even that gets sad and I click away.

And, in addition to not watching Idol, I also don't watch The Apprentice because Trump is a toupee-wearing, ego-0manaiacal blowhard.

But I digress. it isn't Trump and His Magic Hair that has gotten me a'scurred, it's the appearance of former Idol loser Clay Aiken.

He's on the show this time around and I saw a picture of him with his new face.

Seriously Clay? Why?

Did anyone read that story of the woman who took her lottery ticket back to the store to see if it was a winner and, after scanning the ticket, she was told she hadn't won anything?

Well, she threw the ticket away. And another woman found it, took it into the store, and had it scanned and found that it was a MILLION DOLLAR TICKET!

Now, the woman who bought the ticket is suing the woman who found the ticket because she wants her million. But the finder has already spent some of the money.

Is this a case of :finders keepers" or should the ticket purchaser be allowed to recoup her winnings? And, if so, should the finder have to pay her for the money she spent?

My personal thought is that the store, and the company who made the faulty scanner, should somehow be involved in paying off this woman, After all, had the scanner not been wrong, she never would have thrown the ticket out.

Zachary Wyatt Comes Out

While Tennessee's 'Don't Say Gay' bill is, if not dead, at least in a complete vegetative state, another similar law is proposed in Missouri, and that proposal had one Republican state congressman speaking out.

And coming out.

Yesterday, Missouri Representative Zachary Wyatt told members of the House, a gathering of reporters, and the entire world, that he is gay when he called on members in the House GOP to withdraw support from Missouri's so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“Today I ask you to stand with me as a proud Republican, a proud veteran, and a proud gay man who wants to protect all kids, addressing bullying in our schools.” --Zachary Wyatt

Wyatt has made headlines recently, first, when he withdrew from the race for House District 3 and then announcing he would study marine biology at the University of Hawaii. A few weeks later, he issued a sharply-worded condemnation of fellow Republicans for their lack of action on House Resolution 333, which Wyatt filed to invoke impeachment proceedings against Circuit Judge Russell Steele. he also said that being a public figure was like living “in a glass house,” where he’s been able to see things about his own life that he’s kept “hidden away.”

“I will not lie to myself anymore about my own sexuality. It has probably been the hardest thing to come to terms with. I have always ignored it. I didn’t even think about it or want to talk about it. I’ve not been immune to it. I hear the comments, usually snide ones, about me. I am not the first or last Republican to come out. I have just gotten tired of the bigotry being shown on both sides of the aisle on gay issues. Being gay has never been a Republican or Democrat issue, and it should never be.”--Zachary Wyatt

Two years ago, Zachary Wyatt towed the typical GOP stance on school bullying, and last year voted 'No' on Missouri's proposed non-discrimination act. He regrets both positions today, and says he was just a follower back then, but "[l]eadership is what we need now.”

Now, he's taken a stand against 'Don't Say Gay' and says it's  his duty as a victim of bullying to stand up for those students who are facing similar challenges.

"Pastor" Sean Harris A Man Of "God"? I Doubt It ....

It's ironic, you know, the more I think about it.

Having been the victim of bullying as a young queerling, I find myself sickened by the daily stories of kids being tormented and tortured, some to the point of suicide.

I am also, not a fan of organized religion, because,., as I've said in the past, I find most religions divide people, rather than unite them. So, imagine my surprise when I woke up to read that a "pastor", a man of "god", up in North Carolina has combined two of the things I found so distasteful, into one huge-assed sermon if idiocy, bigotry and hate.

See, "Pastor" Sean Harris doesn't want kids to be gay, and he, apparently believes he's found a way to stop it from happening: beat it out of them:

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, “Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,” you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed. 

Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, “Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.

You say, “Can I take charge like that as a parent?

Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that."

Yes, this man of "god' wants parents to beat their kids who might be different.

Crack a wrist of your own child.

Give him a good punch because he acts differently.

This is where religion goes horribly wrong. A man who preaches the so-called word of god, telling parents to beat their own children, that he, their alleged leader the man who seeks to lead them on the righteous path of god, says it's just fine to break a bone in your child, it's A-Ok to beat your child, for being gay.

God is watching "Pastor" Harris, and she may have something to say about......what's that? The "pastor" is apologizing? 

Asshat, say what?

Yes, "Pastor" Sean Harris, now that the video of him sermonizing to parents to beat the gay out of their children has gone viral, now says he does not advocate hitting children, though he somehow defends his sermon about forcing traditional gender roles on children:

"If I had to say it again, I would say it differently, no doubt. Those weren't planned words, but what I do stand by is that the word of God makes it clear that effeminate behavior is ungodly. I'm not going to compromise on that."

But, here's the real trouble, "pastor". You said it. You said it on camera, in a video that went online so millions could see and hear you. You lie when you say you don't advocate child abuse, because you said "crack a wrist" of your gay son; you said "give him a good punch."

You can't take back the words, pastor. We all know you're a liar.

Architecture Wednesday: Deep In The Heart Of Texas!

Imagine a world where new housing developments prohibit the use of solar panels because they're considered to be unsightly. Yeah, that happens, and when Texas-based architect Heather McKinney, of McKinney York Architects, began designing a house for her client in a new development area in Shavano Park, Texas, just outside San Antonio, the development’s design restrictions went from prohibiting photovoltaics to forbidding flat roofs and even dictating certain materials be used in construction.
But McKinney's client didn't want a McMansion or some sort of Tuscan Villa monstrosity, which would have fit right into the neighborhood. The client is a collector of Venetian glass, and, well, she wanted a simple glass house to showcase her collection.
The result is a 4,000-square-foot, one-story building spread out on its lot in a series of rectangular pavilions connected by glass linkages and wrapped around a pool, with a transparent center section that allows views through to other parts of the house and beyond.
It's all about clean lines, defined geometries, and dramatic moments to define the house--such as a dropped, Ipe-wood ceiling in the dining room and a fireplace that appears to float in an unexpected corner of the living space. 
The house is mostly low-maintenance, but because the client’s love of glass was paramount to the house’s design, it was created to achieve a connection between her collection, lighting, and the changing patterns of incoming sunlight. Display cases with reconstituted Wenge wood cabinets beneath add to the geometry rather than detract or clutter it and bring warmth and contrast to the polished, concrete floors.
The client says, “It’s the house I wanted, and the house I asked for.” 
Plus, it's also designed to be retrofitted for things like solar panels when the development realizes how beautiful they really are.

'Don't Say Gay Bill' Might Be Dead, But 'Gateway Sexual Activity' Is The Newest Fight For Tennessee Legislators

I won't be sending flowers, though i am pleased to learn that Tennessee's 'Don't Say Gay' bill has died a well-deserved death. It will not be put to a final vote needed for passage, the measure's House sponsor, Repugnant Republican Representative, Joey Hensley, has announced.

Doesn't mean it's over, or that Tennessee legislators have removed their engorged heads from their tightened sphincters. No, though there will be no vote, and no passage of 'Don't Say Gay,' Hensley has also announced that officials of the Department of Education and the state Board of Education have pledged to send a letter to all Tennessee schools "telling them they cannot teach this subject in grades kindergarten through eight."

"With that assurance and the opposition of some people who didn't want to vote on it, I've decided simply not to bring it up," said Hensley.

He also said, because he's a bigot and a homophobe who feels there are no more pressing issues in Tennessee than saying 'gay' in schools, that the bill could be re-filed next year if there is any indication of "alternate lifestyles" being prompted in Tennessee schools despite the pending letter.

"Alternative".

Like, Tennessee exists in an "alternative" universe.

And if you don't believe that, well, then, there is this:

We've all heard of alleged "gateway" drugs; you know, smoking pot will lead to shooting up heroin. But, in Tennessee, the legislature is now focused on “gateway sexual activity.”

Holding hands leads to fornication.

Kissing leads to, well, I was gonna get real graphic, but I decided against it. Let's just say that the Tennessee Legislature is still obsessed with sex, because that's the biggest problem in Tennessee.

Sex. Oh, and gay folks. And, probably, gay folks having sex. But, anyway, back to "gateway sexual activity."

The Tennessee Legislature has a bill to Governor Bill Haslam that would require sex-education classes “exclusively and emphatically” promote abstinence only. it would also ban teachers and outside groups from promoting “gateway sexual activity,” which the bill defines as: “sexual conduct encouraging an individual to engage in a non-abstinent behavior.”

Repugnant Republican Representative Jim Gotto, the bill’s sponsor, does say the bill would not address things as innocuous as holding hands, but even Gotto doesn't say what "gateway sexual activity" means. Perhaps because he doesn't know, because he's too busy trying to legislate morality rather than law.

But, if Gotto's ridiculous bill becomes law then groups like Planned Parenthood, and others, who provide sex education information in schools could face a $500 fine. 

For educating people, er, young people, about sex.

Oh, Tennessee, when are you people gonna stop allowing these moronic legislators to speak for you?

BSA Board Member Resigns In Support Jennifer Tyrrell

By now I think we've all heard the story of Jennifer Tyrrell, the Ohio mother who was booted out as scout leader of her 7-year-old son's Boy Scouts troop because she's gay.  [see post HERE]
But here's some more.....
The Boy Scouts of America say that one of their goals is to build character in young men, and that they don't want to involve gay people in their endeavors because they don't want to turn their merit badging and camping and stuff in discussions of sexual orientation, so they will not, now or ever, allow gay folks to be leaders.
Okay, but how does discrimination, written into your code of honor, and hidden behind your Freedom of Speech platform teach character? Doesn't that just teach discrimination of people who might be different?
I mean, that's what I think, but then I'm just a queer so, well, you probably don't care about my opinion. But, there is someone who's opinion does matter, and someone who took his opinion, and voiced, it, and then quit the BSA.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I write to you today to inform you that I am resigning as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio River Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Yesterday, after receiving the email from Paul Tucker, I first learned the story of Jennifer Tyrrell, the den leader for Pack 109's Tiger Scouts in Bridgeport, Ohio, who was removed as leader solely due to her sexual orientation. I understand that this action was taken as a result of a standing policy of the Boy Scouts of America and that said action is legal. However, Ms. Tyrrell’s removal goes against my fundamental beliefs of how we should treat our fellow human beings and is, in my opinion, wholly discriminatory. I understand that the Boys Scouts of America is free to run its organization as it sees fit, however, I can not formally be a part of it based upon this policy.

My grandfather was an Eagle scout, my father was an Eagle scout and I am an Eagle Scout. Other than his family and his Christian faith, the most important thing in my father’s life was the Boy Scouts. The lived and breathed scouting. That is what makes this decision so exceedingly difficult and emotional. However, I know that my father would support my decision.

Best wishes to you, Ohio River Valley Council and the Boy Scouts of America in future endeavors. I hope that the powers that be will look into their hearts and find the wisdom and courage to re-examine the policies of the Boy Scouts of America.

Tea Party Activist Gary Stein Gets The Boot

I love this story.

Gary Stein was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. He's also an avid supporter of the Tea Party and, as they are apt to be, quite the anti-Obama Tea Partying Marine.

In fact, he is so anti-Obama that he is vocal in his opposition to the Commander-In-Chief, and, on his Facebook page has taken to calling the president, "The real enemy."

And or his outspokenness, and threat to disobey any orders sent down via the president, Sgt. Gary Stein has lost his bid to stay in the Marine Corps. Brig. Gen. Daniel Yoo ordered the Stein, a veteran of nine years, be removed from the service with an other-than-honorable discharge and reduction in rank to lance corporal.

A Marine can receive an other-than-honorable discharge if the basis for his or her dismissal is a serious offense representing a "significant departure from the conduct expected." And, an other-than-honorable discharge means Stein loses most of his veteran benefits.

Stein's attorney, Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation, says they will fight on, pressing a federal court case and appealing through Marine Corps legal channels for his reinstatement. His defenders are an unusual mix of attorneys with ties to the Tea Party and other conservative causes, as well as the American Civil Liberties Union. 

In fact, ACLU attorney David Loy said the legal team does not believe Stein's Facebook postings on his Armed Forces Tea Party page and other sites are anything more than legitimate and allowable expressions under the First Amendment.

Like when Stein said he would not follow orders given by President Obama, the Commander-In-Chief, nor would he ever salute the president.

When challenged, almost instantly, by his fellow Marines about his comments, Stein backtracked, withdrew them, apologized and later said what he meant was that he wouldn't follow any "unlawful" orders issued by the commander in chief.

Which, of course, is not what he said.

And Marine prosecutors argue that those statements, when combined with Stein's speeches at Tea Party gatherings, and selling anti-Obama bumper stickers on his Armed Forces Tea Party page, clearly broke the rules.

Here's my two cents: if you join the military, your boss is the president of the United States. You don't like that, then ask to be released. otherwise, do the job for which this country and it's taxpayers ask of you.

I imagine there were quite a few members of the military who weren't real keen on W's "War For Oil" or "War For WMD" or "War For Saddam" but they followed orders and did as they were told. Or, they asked to be released. Or, failing all that, simply kept their mouths shut.

Gary Stein could take a lesson from that last bit.

Although now, as a private citizen, her can say and do whatever he wants, and become just another Tea Party wingnut.

Sharon Needles .... The Best WOMAN .... Won!

This episode was when i joined Team Needles. This runway performance I just loved. I loved the dark side and the edginess. And the humor. After this one, I was Team Needles all the way to the end, clapping like a little Drag Star when her name was announced.
And I loved this kind of reunion/crowning-the-winner episode better than just a reunion. It was fun and far less bitchy, though we did have some drama.
I was a bit saddened that Willam got kicked off just for getting a little man candy room service; I was hoping for something more tawdry.
I was glad PhiPhi was called out for her attitude, backstabbing, two-drag-faces.
I loved Latrice "Motherf**kin" Royale. I came late to the Latrice party, but she's a class act and cannot wait to see her on Drag U.
I love Chad Michaels. And I love Cher. I just wish he didn't look like Cher in every single episode.
That said........
