Tilman Fertitta: COVIDIOT of the Week

Tilman Fertitta owns the Houston Rockets; He owns Landry's restaurant chain. He owns the Golden Nugget casinos … and much much more. He’s got more money than any one person should have—an estimated $4.8 billion—and he has 45,000 people depending on him for their paycheck.

He’s also a the ISBL Covidiot of the Week, and here’s why …

He recently ;aid off all 45,000 of his employees and then went on Laura Ingraham's Fox News show brag about it. Guest host, Brian Kilmeade, was guest-hosting for Ingraham, who ALLEGEDLY was attending a Klan Wife Potluck, and Kilmeade offered Fertitta—not his employees—sympathy for the situation. But Fertitta’s doing good, y’all, saying:
“I’m holding up, I’m holding up pretty damn good, but I’ve got 45,000 employees out there that we’ve had to furlough that is so tremendously unfortunate, that we have to get back to work as soon as we can. These unemployment numbers of 16 million, and there’s no telling what it’s going to be next week. That’s what’s so sad about this whole crisis.”
And Kilmeade asked how hard it was to lay off employees and, well, for Fertitta, it wasn’t that hard:
“You know, Brian, I went through the ’87 crisis, the 2000, the 2008 [recession], and it’s kind of something you realize is, you are doing your people a favor if you get them furloughed first, because they they’re the first to the unemployment line after the severance that you give them, and it’s a trick that I learned many years ago.”
Wow; he's learned to be the first billionaire to kick his employees to the curb. COVIDIOT. Maybe he could take a smidge of that $4.8 billion and continue paying them yourself, rather than put them on the national unemployment rolls. Right?

Look at it this way, the Unemployment Insurance rate of $600 a week would tally up to about $270 million for ten weeks of unemployment, or just 17% of Fertitta’s wealth that he’s keeping to himself.

The rich get richer …

  3. As much as I despise Sheldon Adelson for his unwavering support of ______, as much as I despise him for cutting all arts coverage from the only major newspaper after he bought it, he's promised to pay his employees through this entire thing. He used his own money, his own jet, and flew in millions of dollars of PPE for hospitals when his buddy Trump couldn't seem to get things done. He was the first to donate $2M to a fund for casino property employees to help them get through this. And, nope, your COVIDIOT has not contributed a dime to my knowledge.
What the COVIDIOT could learn.... And, though it wouldn't help his employess, perhaps people need to avoid his establishments from now on. But, of course, they won't.

  4. Oh, and maybe you could have COVIDIOT twins this week after hearing Peter Navorro say on 60 minutes last night that "nobody" could've done a better job in this crisis. Um, gee, how many died from SARS, MERS, Ebola, or Zika? I think it's quite safe to say Obama could to a better job - and did.

  5. COVIDIOT is my word of the day.
And something that Cheeto’s cult does not understand is that IMPOTUS is for rich people like this idiot. He’s not for the ‘common American’. COVFEFE45 is giving men like this all the tax breaks possible while fucking up all the hourly workers and employees who keep this man rich. And they don’t really care that there’s millions on unemployment right now. Nope. All they care is tha the racist in chief is still in the White House. Despicable.

  6. Fortunately in the UK if you are furloughed by your employer you get paid 80% of your salary by the government (taxes will be going up after all this but it is in a good cause). How long it takes the government to pay the wages is another matter, but still props for trying.

As for this dirtbag - he has the empathy quotient of a Trumpelstiltskin. Brian Kill Me Before It's Too Late has an IQ of about 5

  8. This is just the way business owners think. They are not dealing with people the are dealing with employees they don't even consider important.

  11. I hope we will soon see a list of the companies whose owners did what this jackass did. The list should be published on all social media for all to see, and them boycott til the end of time. There are some business owners who are paying their employees out of their own pockets or from the companies’ amassed wealth. We can only hope this evil dude and all of his counterparts get what’s due.

  12. That is just wicked. What I never get is that don't these jerks realize that if you treat your employees well they give back twice as much. But then maybe I'll never be rich!
