Rescue Shelter Boys Doesn't Have Quite The Same Ring

I saw this story about a week ago, and it just won't die, so I thought I'd post it.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is no stranger to publicity stunts. They've done everything from asking that fish be called "sea kittens" because no one in their right mind would want to put a hook through a kitten, to placing ads with models wearing nothing, or next to nothing.

But now, PETA PETA PETA, even you have to admit this latest stunt is for the birds, or, maybe we should call them "air kittens"?

PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys. The organization sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe acknowledging that its request, at first blush, might appear "bizarre." But, by changing its name, the band could raise awareness at every tour stop of the "cramped, filthy conditions" that breeders keep animals in before selling them to pet stores, PETA said in its letter.

The band has turned down a request from an animal rights group to rename itself the Rescue Shelter Boys, but did say, via their website, that the request "raises an issue worth thinking about."

  1. I try and appreciate what PETA does, but they make it harder and larder for me to do at times.

  3. Heeheehee! Okay, awareness is a good thing, but don't be messin' with the Pet Shop Boys!

  4. PETA should spend more time helping animals and less time trying to change the way people think, which we all know is impossible. And even if it were possible, they are going about it all wrong. Make me want to have roast lamb tonight for dinner!

  5. It could be worse... they could be called the Puppymill Boys.
