If you like to feel like you’re on vacation every day have I got a house for you …
This private resort-like compound, spread out over two and one-half lush green acres features five structures designed in modern Pueblo Revival-style and yet it contains resonances of its past; the property was initially built as an equestrian ranch by one of the preeminent developers of the Coachella Valley for his wife.
A gated drive lined with old growth carob trees brings you to the spacious main house, two guest houses, an ancillary building, and a three-car garage as well as a long list of well-appointed amenities—an 80 foot pool, spa, tennis court, party pavilion, firepit, putting green, bocce ball court, horseshoes, hammock and basketball area. There is also a fruit orchard with guava, lemon, pear, pomelo, avocado, fig, and mango trees.
The vast main house is accessed through a dramatic colonnade up from the pool and the social spaces include a living room, den, media room, wet bar, dining area and kitchen all flowing into each other and outside onto shaded courtyards with decades-old cactuses; one such courtyard includes an outdoor dining room with a fireplace and barbeque.
The home's interiors include aspects of Pueblo Revival-style such as thick adobe-style walls and viga—roughhewn beams—and latilla ceilings. Warm flagstone floors flow throughout the interior and exterior spaces, adding another natural texture to the home's thoughtful warm simplicity.
The main home features two bedrooms, the primary with a kiva fireplace and spa-like bathroom with a walled cactus garden, custom stained glass in the shower room and large tub for soaking.
The horse stables have since been transformed into a gym, office and guest house and yet retain their rustic equestrian atmosphere with vestiges including the sliding stable doors of the horse stalls; in fact, one stable, the tack room, and the polo field pasture remain for horse lovers.
The home's meandering plan and network of covered outdoor spaces offer numerous paths to explore this enchanting property with its other structures, pool, tennis court, and multiple surprises.
Sold furnished so you can start your life-long holiday now.
Cowhide goes. The fixture in the loo... the one that looks like a hat Mrs. Howell would wear on Gilligan's Island - gone. The dining room is curiously furnished. And those hand chairs in the master loo need to go on a rummage sale - I have friends with eyes bigger than their... !!!! Otherwise... how lovely. White in the desert? Always a good idea. And all those windows? I'd walk around naked all the time. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteI like Lovey's Hat Light!
DeleteI didn't even notice a dining room, but you're right, that table is so wrong.
DeleteI think the table looks Cheap Hotel Conference Room.
DeleteSorry, not for me. By the way, is that a tree in the shower?
ReplyDeleteNah, it's a tree just outside the window to the bath.
DeleteBlinded by all of the white, it needs a little color (I have some paintings that would be a great start). Lots of space, I like it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it needs some fabulously large colorful pieces of art!
DeleteIt's a big bugger. Surprisingly I say, too big for me.
ReplyDeleteWay too big for me, too!
DeleteIt would be for me, but it is a very interesting property.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting home and I love the property but the house is too big for me.
Deletethe dog's mother
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! That is a lot of house.
xoxo :-)
Way too much!

Just gorgeous...feels natural for me. A bidet with its own cactus plant?! I love it!! Best of all, if I tell hubby to "get lost!" he could actually do it!! 😘
ReplyDeleteI could go days without seeing Carlos ... not a good thing, I think!
DeleteI'm not usually into adobe-style...but I do love this one for some reason. I think its the white against the texture of the teak like woods that always give it a clean look. The kitchen is absolutely amazing, and the one lampshade in the bathroom I would probably wear as hat. Would I buy and live there? I'd buy it but I wouldn't live there I'd rent it out as a B&B and then spend a couple of weeks there. Too much space for me to live in all the time. Should I book you a weekend Bob?
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's a place to stay but perhaps not to live.
DeleteUpton called the hat in the loo one of Mrs Howell's hats from Gilligan's Island and now I cannot unsee that!
WOW! This is one of those places that if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYup, big house, big coins.
Deletexoxo
A bidet! I'm in!
ReplyDeleteLove the whole vibe but this place is way too big. Yeah, sometimes I do say that. It's stunning, but it's more like a B&B and I can't shake that feeling.
But if I had the money...
Well, that and the horses.
XOXO
It would make a fun B&B with all the room and all the property has to offer.

I wonder what the air conditioning bills are like?
ReplyDeleteProbably higher than my mortgage!
DeleteNice place---Is it the way the place was photographed or is it me--- The ceilings look a little low, and claustrophobic---I would enjoy the outside spaces---Nice shade options---Would love to see more of the transformation of the horse stables---
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the windows, you can see how much higher the ceiling is than the window frames, so the ceilings seem high to me.
DeleteBeautiful. I love that the stables have been transformed. Now what could I do what that tennis court space?
ReplyDeletePlay tennis???
DeletePut in a Moose and Dudo track????
I hate the straw hat lightshade, but love everything else. Well, not the cowhide rug. Love the "handy" chairs.
ReplyDeleteI like the Straw Hat light for some odd reason; I don't like animal hide rugs, even fakes. And the hand chairs? Maybe not for me.
DeleteThis one really stopped me and made me think - how do some people live this way while others are in such desperate circumstances? It's hard to appreciate all of this when it seems so unnecessary. I just couldn't imagine living like this, Bob. I don't know why this one really made me think "too much"!
ReplyDeleteIt is too much, but for those that have a lot of $$$ too much is the way to go, I guess.
DeleteLuckily, Carlos and I live a more minimalist life, and I like that!
