Architecture Wednesday: The Glass Barn

It’s a barn; it’s England; it’s for sale.

On a quiet country lane near England’s Kent-Sussex border you will find the Glass Barn—the home draws its name from the 14 windows that illuminate the 7,000-square-foot space and provide views of rolling hills and fields—a five-bedroom barn conversion currently seeking a new owner.

As part of the conversion, the barn was expanded with contemporary additions, including a glass-enclosed mezzanine level above the kitchen, which helps to emphasize the scale of the pitched roof.

A large kitchen, complete with exposed beams, is located off the entrance hall, and is fitted with high-end appliances, a central steel island and an adjoining scullery. The main living is just steps away, lined with herringbone oak floors.

The private quarters await at the southern end of the first floor where you’ll find four bedrooms, each with its own en suite bath; there are also several versatile spaces which can be used as a creative studio, office, or gym.

Furthermore The Glass Barn offers guest accommodations, or a rental space, that is spread across two floors and comes with a kitchenette, bedroom, and bath. Though the space is accessible via the first floor of the main house, it also features a separate entrance, making it a perfect guest or rental flat.

And it can all be yours for Keep scrolling to see more of the property, currently listed for £2,250,000 or $3,025,122 USD.

  1. Love the idea.
    The execution is not quite there (I feel like it lacks something?) but those ceilings are absolutely awesome and the light is lovely.
    It's probably just styling but that can be fixed, right?

    XOXO

  3. You had me at glass barn. What's not to like about the hardwood floors and that bathroom. I have the feeling Suspense and I would be spending a lot of time in tubs together taking in these bathrooms, lol!!! It is a bit bland with not much architectural elements....but nothing posh furnishings cant fix.

  4. It's a bit dreary and depressing. Shocker, huh?

  5. Could use a bit warming up, but otherwise, a lovely layout and redesign. Stone is always pleasing.

  6. I love the idea, not so much the execution. An interesting/unwelcoming exterior. Some nice features and light. It needs, I think, the addition of some other interesting features. They should hire Mistress Maddy.

    It looks a tad bear in spots on the inside. I need more wood and brick!

    @TDM
    I love the paint colors but it does need a spruce in the furnishings; a splash of color!!

    @Maddie
    It could use your touch in the furnishings and such!

    @Deedles
    It needs life, flowers, plants and vibrant art pieces.

    @upton
    Exactly!

    @Mitchell
    I sort of like the rustic-urban-utilitarian exteriors, but, yeah, Maddie needs to do her magic on the inside!

  9. I had high hopes, but in addition to red and upper cabinets in the kitchen, it needs something, it leaves me looking for more.

    I agree it needs "something." Some more architectural interest!
