This is a true getaway, located in the ski-in, ski-out neighborhood of Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana, and everything about it screams rustic; from the exterior material palette of reclaimed wood siding, hand-hewn timbers, stone siding and chimney stacks, and cedar shingle roofing.
Those same elements continue into the interior of the home, bringing the rustic aesthetic throughout the dwelling and yet the home doesn’t feel dark; large windows throughout the house bring the outside in while capturing both the stunning views and the natural light.
What do I love? I love the roughhewn beams and stacked-stone fireplaces—there are two in the Great Room alone—and the rustic yet inviting design. Oh, and the massive bar between the Great Room and Dining Room, with a view to the slopes, is perfect for those who don’t ski but enjoy a cock-a-tale, as is the large wine room in the dining area.
There are several outdoor areas, each with its own fireplace, to make those cold snowy evenings a bit warmer and cozier. And there’s a gym to work off the cock-a-tales and food, and even a bunk room for Maddie’s houseboys. And if you do ski, out back there is convenient access to the Moonlight Basin ski runs.
It’s rustic luxury, yes ma’am.
With a few more area rugs, I'd have no problem living there. Why, there's enough space for 6 or 7 more dogs.
ReplyDeleteWith the price tag I think you could afford more rugs.
DeleteI love exactly what you love about this. Wow!
ReplyDeleteGreat taste we have, Mitchell!
DeleteWonder if they need an old man in residence? I will happily offer my services.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a caretaker or concierge for guests? Not a bad idea.
DeleteMy Dad would have loved it!
ReplyDeleteWe went skiing almost every weekend
of my years at home. The 'chairs' at the
kitchen bar - a little too rustic (heavy)
for me.
xoxo :-)
I didn't notice those kitchen stools but they are odd, no?

I like this immensely! Strangely enough, the room with the red doors and cow bench is kind of jarring. I'd toss a little more color into the rest of the place, though. Oh, the Murphy's oil soap and Lemon Pledge one would have to go through.
ReplyDeleteI'd have a full-time duster and polisher on the payroll!
DeleteOh that's just beautiful! Out of curiosity I looked up the rental prices. Fully booked until April, and then a five-night stay would run around $13,000! Keep playing the lottery!
ReplyDeletePriced out of my league ....
DeleteBeautiful home and scenery. I have daydreamed about living in Montana. A few things: a. Beige/tan is not a color. We need color. b. The gym is pathetic. What the hell can you do in that thing. For the money you spend on the house at least equip the area with a little more. Throw in a steam room/sauna for good measure. c. The window views are to die for
ReplyDeleteWho needs a gym? I'd turn it into liquor storage!
DeleteI thought that was a changing room, the red doors being lockers.
DeleteNever thought I would ever say: too much wood! But they killed an entire forest for that over the top rustic look!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lot of wood but I kind of like it ... as long as I don't think of dead forests and global warming!
DeleteGorgeous, all those huge reclaimed beams! It took me a while to realize that the weird looking rug in the (one before last) picture was actually snow and I was looking at the outdoor space!
ReplyDeleteJames and Brigitta
DeleteA kind of a snow rug!!!
DeleteA bit over the top.
ReplyDeleteThose benches in the kitchen - really, how butch! And the bunkhouse is just a porno waiting to be filmed.
Will Jay
I didn't notice the benches but they are giving me outhouse vibes!!
DeleteBunkhouse Boys!!!
Oh, it IS rustic luxury.
ReplyDeleteI know somebody who does the whole Aspen in Winter thing and this is par course. People with money, you know...
It's beautiful. I would not mind spending xmas there....
XOXO
Yeah, Christmas is made for this house! I'd just have to make sure someone is available to "ski in" my liquor order!

It's beautiful and I would love to stay there-- in the summer! I'm not a fan of cold or snow.
ReplyDeleteI imagine, with those views, that it's gorgeous in summer.
DeleteWith the exception of the elk horn chandelier - which would have to be burned before I set foot in the place - I adore this. Now I know where I want to spend the holidays. Thank you, Bob. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteBuy it, trash the light, and let's have a holiday party!

It's a little large but if I moved in with my entire extended family we'd be quite comfortable. I love the stacked stone fireplaces.
ReplyDeleteThere is room to spread out!
DeleteParts yes, parts no, and there are lots of parts. It does look cold there.
ReplyDeleteSo cold that I'd probably be moving from one fireplace to another all winter long!
