Architecture Wednesday: Diamond House Hawaii

Welcome to the Diamond House, a 1958 mid-century Oahu A-Frame masterpiece born from the vision of famed architects Wimberly and Cook, who are well-known for landmark projects such as the Waikikian, Sheraton Waikiki hotels, renovation of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Don the Beachcomber restaurant, and Kauai's Coco Palms Resort.

This time they created a unique home with strong Hawaiian materials of lava rock, large wood beams, glass, and a strategic layout to capture the tropical ocean breezes flowing off the Pacific. The main floor features a large living space, dining room, kitchen and lounge alcove. The wrap-around lanai offers ample space to relax, entertain and enjoy the views outside the home or soak in the hot tub.

Up a few stairs from the main level you find ocean views from the primary bedroom, which also offers privacy and great storage space, and ensuite bathroom; there are two additional bedrooms and a bath on this level, as well as a loft.

Extensive renovations include new windows and doors; cherry kitchen cabinets, quartz countertops; new gas water heater; new light fixtures and ceiling fans; outdoor shower and hot tub; and much more!

Plunk down $3.75M and it’s yours!

  1. Nice A Frame, don't know about the bunk beds, though, and at that price it's probably smaller than it looks.

    1. I am not a fan of lava rock so that's a No from me, bit other than that I love the house and location.

    1. It is a bit of crowded paradise, but I could live in that deck and watch the ocean all day.

  4. I love this place. Of course, I’d furnish differently but what a great design and spaces.

  5. How do you clean that rock around the kitchen stove when you splash grease or sauce up there?

    1. Simple answer: don't splash?? 😀

  7. A good Mid-Century Contemporary done well is Timeless, I Love this one! I'm a Maximalist but have always been drawn to this type of Minimalist Living, if I had a Vacation Home I'd want it to resemble this... being in Hawaii would just be a Bonus. *LOL* The Views are everything tho', aren't they?

    1. I do love the views, yes.
And I am much more a minimalist so this is right up my alley!

🏖🏝 No offense to anyone who lives on or near the Atlantic Seaboard 😉, but the Pacific is MY ocean and I want this property! I figure since Social Security is about to "fail" (be stolen by the robber barons), I'm gonna demand my money in a lump sum now!! I figure I'm gonna live to 95 (25 more years) so I can almost cover the down payment! 🤭 Gotta go now...I'm packing for Hawaii!! 🥳🩱😎🏄‍♀️🏊‍♀️🌊

  9. I love everything about this place! Of course, I'd live in a shack in Hawaii if I could afford it.

  11. That is freaking amazing! I guess I need to buy a lottery ticket.
The thought of dining on the outdoor deck overlooking the ocean would be a dream come true.

  13. I would need to check (in fact, I will after leaving this comment) about proximity to volcanos and if there had been any recent tsunami warnings, but other than that, this place works for me, sweetpea! xoxo

    1. Follow-up: no active volcanos, BUT the island is highly susceptible to tsunamis and coastal flooding. Even knowing that, I'd still live there! BTW, I'm going to follow your lead re: the economic boycott info and post it on my blog! xoxo

    2. I think the house is up slightly from the shoreline so maybe rising waters wouldn't be soooo bad???

  14. You had me at Hawaii. Tsunamis be damned.
And this is very pretty. I love Mid-century houses. I would only add some artwork and hope there's no volcanic activity anyplace near.

    XOXO

  15. I love the cherry cabinets! I'm so sick of white cabinets all over the place. I'll prepare a lovely meal in the kitchen so we can dine outside and enjoy that view.
