I Didn't Say It ...

Joaquin Castro, Democratic Congressman from Texas, reminding Senate jurors that the former president left them for dead during the Capitol attack:

“This is hard to watch, but I think it’s important we understand what the capitol police were facing, how severely they were outnumbered while our commander in chief, whose job it was to protect and defend them, was just watching doing nothing for an hour, refusing to send help. If he wanted to protect these officers, if he cared about their safety as he tweeted about, he would have told his supporters to leave. He would have sent help right away, and one brave officer was killed. Others took their lives after the attack. More than 140 police officers were injured, including cracked ribs, smashed spinal discs. One officer will lose an eye. Another was stabbed with a metal fence stake. They were completely and violently overwhelmed by a mob and needed help and our commander in chief, [the twice-impeached, one-term loser], refused to send it. Senators, you’ve seen all the evidence so far, and this is clear. On January 6th, [the twice-impeached, one-term loser], left everyone in this capitol for dead.”

Several RepubliQan senators said they were shaken by the footage of the attack, but they were still going to vote not to convict.

And so, when it happens again, and if you don’t convict the mob and the mod leader, it will happen again, can we impeach the entire GQP?

Marco Lehmann, Swiss national basketball player, coming out:

“I probably could have kept it a secret until the twilight of my professional career. But I decided otherwise. Mental toughness is one of the most important attributes for an athlete. And I always considered this was one of my best qualities. But exactly this is what collapsed like a house of cards at the end of 2019 for me. I had been switching personalities for so long now, that it was affecting my mental health. Every week the same old thing: my boyfriend would drive me to the airport and the minute I would go through security, the happy gay man in a relationship turned into the emotionless pro athlete, who didn’t want to talk about his personal life. In December 2019, I hit rock bottom. I started to have emotional outbursts, tears, cold sweat running down my back. And for what? Just thinking about the next practice. Are we talking about practice? I just couldn’t stand the thought of having to switch from my home personality to my competitive one once more. All these situations. All the sleepless nights. All the moments of fear and self-doubt have led to this. The time has come for me to enjoy the rest of my career without having to live a double life or hide my true self. And hopefully help other gay athletes in Switzerland and worldwide.”

Clearly, hiding who you are, and who you love, is just plain unhealthy. Nice that Marco choice health and happiness over the repercussions of being an openly gay athlete.

Welcome out.

Rick Scott, GQP Senator from Florida, stating that the trial was a “complete waste of time” after viewing the explicit videos of the attack on the Capitol:

“I’m disgusted that, you know, people think that they can do things like that and get away with it. I hope everybody that came into the Capitol and did the wrong thing gets prosecuted to the full extent of law, [but] this is a complete waste of time. It’s not doing anything to help American families, it’s not helping people get jobs, it’s not helping get the vaccine out … it’s vindictive.”

Of note is that Rick Scott was one of the traitors who voted to overturn the election results AFTER the attack on the Capitol. But is that really a surprise from a man who, when he was CEO and founder of Columbia/HCA he defrauded Medicare, Medicaid and other federal programs?

Not so much; he’s cut from the same criminal cloth as the man he’s trying to save.

Liz Cheney, after being censured by the Wyoming GQP, promising to investigate the insurrection started by the former president:

“I think people all across Wyoming understand and recognize that our duty is to the Constitution. The oath that I took to the Constitution compelled me to vote for impeachment and it doesn’t bend to partisanship, it doesn’t bend to political pressure. It’s the most important oath that we take and so I will stand by that and I will continue to fight for all of the issues that matter so much to us all across Wyoming. This is not something we can simply look past, or pretend didn’t happen or try to move on. We have to make sure this never happens again.”

Exactly. To be fair, I loathe Liz Cheney and everything she stands for, but she is doing what’s right, what’s expected, and what’s fair.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, on how long we might be wearing masks:

“That will really be dependent upon how we get the level of the virus in the community down. If we can get, and I have used this as an estimate, it is not definitive, that if we can get 70 to 85 percent of the population vaccinated, and get to what we would hope would be to a degree of herd immunity which really is an umbrella or a veil of protection against the community where the level of virus is so low it’s not a threat at all, then at that point, you can start thinking in terms of not having to have a uniform wearing of masks. But we’re certainly not near there yet. When do I think that would occur? It’s very difficult to predict, Bret, but if everything falls into the right place and we get this under control, it is conceivable that you might be able to pull back a bit on some of the public health measures as we get into the late fall of this year. But there’s no guarantee of that because if we don’t get the overwhelming [number of people vaccinated] there’s still going to be a considerable amount of virus in the community. As long as that’s the case, people are going to have to wear masks.”

There you have, straight from the doctor, science, health expert.

Sadly, about half of you won’t believe him because you get your medical advice from a bankrupt casino owner of a political party with deep ties to QAnon.

Dan Levy, Schitt’s Creek actor, on the paralyzing anxiety that kept him from coming out for a long time.

“I think that came from a deep-rooted fear of knowing that I was gay and not being able to be free. By the time I got to high school, when your brain is starting to catch up to your physical impulses, it led to a very confusing time. Because on the one hand, you are now being introduced to things like self-awareness and anxiety. At the same time, you’re becoming more and more savvy when it comes to hiding it. I was starting to develop a sense of confidence by way of being able to entertain people. It was like a decoy version of myself that I was putting out there to not have to live with the reality that when the bullying was happening—if someone was calling me a faggot or whatever it was—they were speaking the truth. Your sense of self gets chipped away. You lose sight of your own value.”

That’s the closet. Get out of it.

  2. In the UK the government is saying that we could still be social distancing in the autumn and the scientists demur by saying that it could be next year before we are allowed to step with 2 metres of one another. Dealing with covid is depressing enough as it is, if we have to go through all this for another 10 months plus there will be a lot more objections to lockdowns and their ilk and a lot more suicides.

  4. The Castros: yes. Yes. Yes! So smart, so articulate. The Dems are always sexier because they're more intelligent. Emotionally intelligent.
Lehmann and Levy give compelling arguments for never being in the closet. It's toxic and stifling. Being free really is good. Rick Scott (a.k.a. discount bin Voldemort) is a disgusting human being. And Florida keeps re-electing him. And when LIz Cheney seems to be the most reasonable of the Repugs, you know this country is effed.

    XOXO

  5. One of the many, many great things about Joaquin Castro is the fact that most Republicans have no idea how you pronounce his name.

Scott's an old, white Republican who desperately wants to talk about something other than the attempted coup.

    Liz is running in 2024.

We will never get 70% of the population vaccinated because 31% of the population are Republicans.

  6. I know it's a awful thing to say, but just maybe some of the polictians should have gotten to push daisies on the 6th. They still don't fucking get it. What does it take in this country to wake people up???? Another huge catastrophe event I think.

and "this isn't doing anything to help American families? Please...save it sister. Then why are he and his cohorts not voting for bigger stimulus bills to help struggling families and small businesses in a more timely manner????????????????? Go fuck DeSantis Rick.

  7. Some of this just brings tears to my eyes today. Thanks for including some admirable individuals in this group. I loathe Liz Chaney for her stance on so many things (especially human rights issues) but I now have at least some respect for her. As for Dan Levy: So many [straight] people tell me "we don't have these problems anymore." We don't? Here's a young guy (much younger than me) raised in comfort by enlightened parents and still he struggled.

  8. Rick Scott is an awful man, even by Republican standards. He is and always has been consistently awful.

Liz Cheney has been a pleasant surprise in all this, though of course this is the ONE subject I agree with her about! So many of these Republicans are running in fear from their own constituents -- and so many of them don't want to give the Democrats a single iota of victory on anything.

  9. Dan Levy... Adore. I think the world of him. And A-Gay I can live with!

Dr. Fauci continues to be the star of Covid... I wish the orange ogre hadn't kept him caged... he really is the nicest guy, tells it like it is and loves the truth. Bravo. And, yes... masks... this is us, now. We are Japan.

Liz... I feel bad for her. The GQP: Let's beat up on anybody that tells the truth? Sick.

Rick Scott need a dildo shoved up his... seriously? Dude is a dick. I am disgusted that he continues to exist.

Marco... yep, this is why we come out. The weight lifted? Amazing.

Castro and that footage... man, when I saw it, I was chilled. I felt for those cops. I was wrecked. It looked painful. They were causing those cops pain. And that's not okay. I need accountability. The orange ogre sat in the oval office and did NOTHING. he does not deserve zip. I want him jailed.

  10. Two powerful statements about the high cost of being closeted from Marco Lehmann and Dan Levy.
