It's Snarkurday!

EnvelopeGate. Yes, people are still talking about, even after the Academy’s accounting firm, Price-Waterhouse-Coopers, fell on Oscar’s sword and said it was their fault for having two copies of each envelope, which is why one of their accountants gave Warren Beatty the Best Actress envelope instead of the Best Picture envelope.

But were there others at fault ... Faye Dunaway? I mean, rumor has it that Warren and Faye were bickering like a couple of old has-beens backstage over who would get to make the announcement, so when Warren looked confused and flummoxed and kerfuffled, and then showed the card to Faye to get her take on it, she just blurted out “La La Land.”

A source says Faye and Warren were very cold with one another during rehearsals and wouldn’t even block their presentation together; they rehearsed separately because they both wanted to read the name.

Now, picture this, Beatty opens the card, sees Emma Stone’s name on it, realizes it’s the wrong card, acts confused, and then gives it to Faye to f**k it up. Wouldn’t that be better than hitting her with a wire hanger?
Speaking of Oscar night, it’s not just about awards it’s also fashion and beauty and “Who are you wearing?” and “Who did your brows?” Yeah, people don’t usually ask about the brows, but after hearing this, you might wanna have your Red Carpet pros add it to their litany of questions ...

Sharon-Lee Hamilton is The ... and it deserves italics ... Eyebrow Stylist To The Stars. But she’s based in Sydney, Australia so what is an A-lister supposed to do? Well, if you’re bros, Leo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, you send a plane Down Under to swoop Hamilton up and wing her to LA so she can sculpt your brows.

Yes, Mister Environmental, Mister Carbon Footprint, Mister I Fought and Got F**ked By A Bear, Leonardo DiCaprio paid thousands of dollars to have a specialist fly halfway around the world to pluck his eye hair ... and that of his BFF.

Men getting tweezed together; how adorable!
More Oscars ... maybe Ryan Murphy’s next season of Feud can skip Chuck and Di and just give us Meryl and Karl.

It seems that when Meryl received her 123rd Academy Award nomination the good folks at Chanel, and Karl Lagerfeld, were set to make her a custom gown, until she said she didn’t want it and the sparks flew!

Women’s Wear Daily [WWD] claims Meryl Streep turned down that couture Chanel after the fashion house refused to pay her to wear it. WWD’s Bridget Foley says Streep had her eye on an embroidered gray silk Lagerfeld gown and asked for the neckline to be customized, until, ALLEGEDLY, someone from Streep’s camp said:
“‘Don’t continue the dress. We found somebody who will pay us.’”
Lagerfeld then hissed to the press:
“A genius actress, but cheapness also, no?”
And so Streep’s team stepped forward to say Karl Lagerfeld is a big fat liar and that his account of what happened is nothing but fluff; they say it is against Meryl’s personal ethics to be paid to wear a gown on the red carpet.

Who to believe ... Meryl or Karl?  Brilliant actress, or fashion designer who doesn’t know when to stop talking and says asshatted things?

I’m Team Meryl. And that’s why I wasn’t surprised when Lagerfeld admitted he Jeff Sessions’d the whole thing:
“Chanel engaged in conversations with Ms. Streep’s stylist, on her request, to design a dress for her to wear to the Academy Awards. After an informal conversation, I misunderstood that Ms. Streep may have chosen another designer due to remuneration, which Ms. Streep’s team has confirmed is not the case. I regret this controversy and wish Ms. Streep well with her 20th Academy Award nomination.”
And Meryl, because she’s Meryl Freaking Streep wasn’t about to let Karl’s non-apology-apology sit:
“In reference to Mr. Lagerfeld’s ‘statement,’ there is no ‘controversy’: Karl Lagerfeld, a prominent designer, defamed me, my stylist and the illustrious designer whose dress I chose to wear, in an important industry publication. That publication printed this defamation, unchecked. Subsequently, the story was picked up globally, and continues, globally, to overwhelm my appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record-breaking 20th nomination, and to eclipse this honor in the eyes of the media, my colleagues and the audience. I do not take this lightly, and Mr. Lagerfeld’s generic ‘statement’ of regret for this ‘controversy’ was not an apology. He lied, they printed the lie, and I am still waiting.”
Man, she went all Miranda Priestly on his ass and I am loving it!

Are you listening Ryan Murphy?
Enough Oscars for now ... let’s move on to GOOP.

A few years ago, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tracy Anderson created a food-delivery service called 3 Green Hearts, which would deliver outrageously priced food to rich people who don’t wanna leave home. But 3 Green Hearts never really went anywhere until now, when the delivery service has morphed into a stand-alone cafe next door to Tracy’s newest fitness studio in Manhattan.

Now, because it’s GOOP, you know it costs, but, and here’s the deal, y’all, if you spend $900 a month for a membership to Tracy’s studio, you get discounts at the cafe. Yes, that’s right, if you plunk down $10,800 a year at Tracy’s fitness dungeon, you can save some coins at Paltrow’s fancy-pants cafe.

Um, Gwyneth, honey, if I’m paying nearly eleven thou a year to work out at your BFF’s gym, then the discount at your little green eatery better be one-hundred-effing-percent.
Remember last week when I told you that Katherine Heigl’s new show, Doubt, would no doubt be cancelled halfway through the first episode?

Well, I ... was ... wrong. It took two full episodes for CBS to pull the plug. It will be replaced by a rerun of Bull and then a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders—which may or may not be about a now-closed bookstore—will take its place.

Poor Katherine. Well, at least she has those cat litter commercials to fall back on.
Just to prove that it isn’t just Hollywood that has some icky family drama, let’s turn to the Biden’s.

Beau Biden, former Vice president Joe Biden’s son, passed away in 2015 after battling brain cancer. His death really devastated the family, and in turn was one of the reasons Joe decided not to run for president in 2016.

Cut to 2017, and we find that Beau Biden’s widow is dating Beau’s brother, Hunter. Now, it isn’t talking out of the corners of my mouth to say that it was widely known that Beau was “the good brother” and Hunter was kind of a mess—he was drummed out of the Navy and cheated on his wife, Kathleen and divorced her.

And that’s where the ick factor comes in. Joe’s daughter-in-law, Kathleen says that she and Hunter formally separated in October 2015, after had asked him to leave their home in July of the same year, “due to his conduct the night before.” Apparently the couple had an agreement that if he engaged in the conduct in question—though that conduct is not mentioned—he would leave. Kathleen also says claims that Hunter spent lavishly on “drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs, and gifts for women with whom he has sexual relations” and that those “habits” depleted their funds available to pay legitimate bills. Kathleen wants their temporary spousal support to be $20K per month for herself, and $5K per month for Hunter, who is now involved with Hallie.

See, I said he was a mess. And what about Hallie? What was she thinking getting involved with a man like Hunter Biden? And, even a bit ickier ... Joe has apparently given the relationship his blessing.

It’s just so icky. My Daddy. My Uncle.

And howsabout some ex-Missus M
arc Anthony mess?

No, not JLo, silly, but his first wife, Dayanara Torres. She and Marc are once again involved in a child support battle, after she has already taken him to court in the past hoping to get a raise in her child support payments—for their two children—from $13,000 a month to $113,000 monthly. Right?

Anthony said that increasing child support would spoil the children essentially, and Dayanara says Marc was hiding millions in assets and that he gives his other ex, JLo, much more in support for his two children with her.

Well, the judge increased the support to roughly $28,000 a month—Marc also pays $ 6,000 to $ 12,000 a year for “vacation expenses”—and Dayanara has been quiet ... until now. She’s apparently ready to reignite her modeling career and so she’s talking dirt about Marc and their child support issues:
“Being a mother is my main role, and I pushed my career off to the side. Now that they are older [Cristian is 16, Ryan is 13] I feel like I can let go a little. Work is already starting and I feel happy. The kids also want me to do what I’m doing.”
Torres faced backlash for taking Marc to court for more money, but she says it’s all about stability for the children ... she says they were living in a very small apartment and the boy’s had to share a room ... on $13,000 a month! But, she says, if they lived a lavish life with Marc when he had them, then they should have a lavish life with her, too ... or she should have the lavish life, I’m thinking.

And then Dayanara gets in a dig at JLo; talking about what happened during last fall’s Latin Grammys, where Marc was recognized for his career and sang a duet with JLo, which ended in a kiss between the exes, Dayanara says:
“Such a shame that a moment of so much stature lost quality with everything that came after.”
Ouch. Dayanara doesn’t mention that Marc was married to someone else at the time of the kiss, or that that marriage broke up around the same time; she seems to save her digs for Lopez.

Methinks Dayanara needs to move on, get a modeling gig, and pay her own bills for a while. Maybe then she won’t feel the need to bash her children’s father in magazine pieces.
Lastly some good news ... a few years back, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki of The Big Bang Theory pulled a Friends and renegotiated their contracts so that they all make $1 million per episode. Soon, two other main cast members, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg, hit the Million Dollar Club, too.

Well, it’s time once again for Big Bang Theory contract negotiations, and this time it’s  Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch—aka Sheldon’s girlfriend and Howard’s wife—who want the raise. The two joined the show in the third season and were getting $200,000 an episode ... how can they live on that!!!—but now that Bang is in its 10th season, they are considered main cast members and so they asked CBS for their million dollar checks, too.

But, CBS may not want to throw more coins at the cast because there’s a small chance that Bang won’t generate as much syndication revenue for these next two years, which might be the show’s final two years.

So Mayim and Melissa might have been cut out of the Major Payday Sweepstakes except, sources say that Jim, Kaley, Johnny, Kunal, and Simon have all offered to take a $100,000 pay cut per episode so that Mayim and Melissa will get a raise. With the extra money, they’ll each make $450,000 an episode.

How’s that for nice? I mean, sure, cutting your million-dollar-per-episode price down to nine-hundred-thousand-per-episode isn’t a huge cut—they won’t be living in shelters and eating out of the garbage, but still, it’s a nice gesture to make.

You know, millionaires lending a hand to other millionaires.

Good News Friday: Leeds Builds Bridge To Equality

Sometimes all it takes is some paint, a paintbrush, and a little bit of love and acceptance and understanding.

Over there to England, in the town of Leeds, they have painted a railway bridge in the colors of the rainbow for its LGBTQ citizens and all because Leeds local, Thomas Wales, wanted to highlight the changing, progressive landscape of his town:
“For me, it is a shining beacon that brightly highlights the fact that the LGBT community don’t have to hide away. We’re part of the fabric of the city. I hope that anyone struggling to come to terms with their sexuality or gender identity will see the rainbow bridge and realize they’re not alone."
The planning for the bridge started last Fall and was finished in time for Valentine’s Day. Official planning for the bridge started in September last year and was completed just before Valentine’s Day. The repaint was funded by money from cash donated by people from city’s LGBTQ community and Leeds City Council.

Sure, it’s a little bit of paint, but it says quite a lot about the world today, doesn’t it?

I Didn't Say It ....

Kyle Kurdziolek, a student and football player at the University of St. Francis, coming out as gay:

“I feel so relieved now, like, I’m so happy about the person I am today, just being able to get that off my chest and feel comfortable about who I am. I don’t have to hide behind this mask anymore, I don’t have to conform to some norm anymore. I can be Kyle Kurdziolek, I can be who I want to be and without no restrictions.”

Again, isn’t that what we all want ... to be ourselves?
And how anyone can be offended by that is beyond me.
Welcome out, Kyle, and please accept, as our Coming Out gifts, a copy of The Gay Agenda and the Obligatory Coming Out Toaster Oven.
Dan Rather, on _____ and the building resistance:

"For all who excused Mr. _____’s rhetoric in the campaign as just talk, the reckoning has come. I hope it isn’t true, but I fear Mr. _____ is nearing or perhaps already beyond any hope of redemption. And now the question is will enough pressure be turned to all those who enable his antics with their tacit encouragement. There has been a wall of unbending support from virtually every Republican in Congress, and even some Democrats. Among many people, this will be seen as anything approaching acceptable. And mind you, talk is cheap. No one needs to hear how you don’t agree with the President. What are you going to do about it? Do you maintain that an Administration that seeks to subvert the protections of our Constitution is fit to rule unchecked? Or fit to rule at all?”

Talk is cheap, Democrats ... and to those few Republicans yet to drink the Kool-Aid.
Do something, or you’ll find yourselves out of a job, too.
Seth Meyers, on Hair Furor pulling those Obama-era guidelines instructing schools allowing transgender students to use the bathroom in accordance with their gender identity:

“Hey! What are you doing? As I understand it, you were elected to bring jobs back to the U.S. Now you don’t want to let transgender kids use the bathroom of the gender they identify with? Do you think that’s why the auto industry went to Mexico? For the bathrooms? First you demonize Muslims, then immigrants, and now the transgender community. Hey, just because you want to bring back coal mining doesn’t mean you have to bring back everything from the 1800s. And hey! During the election, you told the LGBT community that — and I quote — ‘I will fight for you.’ Did you not mean to include the word ‘for’? There’s apparently this fear that transgender kids are using [these rights] as a ruse to sneak into restrooms and grab people by the genitals, but if you’re looking for the kind of person who would do that, you need to look no further than the Oval Office. Melania, I know you wanted to work on an anti-bullying campaign, and now I know where you can start!”

Sometimes it’s the comics who speak the truth, and now it’s our job to run with it.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, _____ Deputy White House Press Secretary, on This Week with George Stephanopoulos explaining why _____ won’t attend the Correspondent’s Dinner:

“George, I think it’s safe to say I think we all spend enough time around each other as it is. But, look, this wasn’t a president that was elected to spend his time with reporters and celebrities, this is a president who campaigned on speaking directly to Americans, and that’s what he’s going to spend his time doing. I think it’s — kind of naive of us to think that we can all walk into a room for a couple of hours and pretend that some of that tension isn’t there. You know, one of the things we say in the south if a Girl Scout egged your house, would you buy cookies from her? I think that this is a pretty similar scenario. There’s no reason for him to go in and sit and pretend like this is going to be just another Saturday night.”

Oh Sarah, you ignorant tool. You are speaking for a man who runs to the press every chance he gets, who tosses his own eggs at the media and is now running scared. Too bad, so sad; but what will be great is the level of high-larity aimed at _____ while he sits at home Mean Tweeting during the dinner.
If he can’t handle the heat, get out of the White House.
Jon Stewart, with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, on _____’s relationship with the media.

"Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a year — and that's coming from a guy who hates CNN. You wanna know how I know how? Because he constantly says the phrase 'believe me.' Nobody says 'believe me' unless they are lying."

True dat.
And then factor in that the instant _____ says anything fact-checkers prove, prove, he’s lying.

In The Age of _____ Your Name, Your Faith, Your Birthplace Can Get You Detained

America in the Age of _____ ...

The son of boxing legend Muhammad Ali—Muhammad Ali, Jr.—was detained for hours by immigration officials at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport because of ... his “Arabic sounding” name.

Ali Jr. was traveling home from a speaking at a Black History Month event in Jamaica with his mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali—Ali’s second wife—when they were pulled aside while going through customs.

You know, those Arabic sounding names always mean trouble, but, get this, Khalilah Camacho-Ali was allowed to leave the airport, to enter this country because she showed officials a photograph of herself with her ex-husband. Her passport wasn’t good enough to get through customs, but a photo with a boxer did the trick.

Sadly, for Muhammad Ali Jr. he had no such photographic evidence so officials held him and questioned him for nearly two hours, repeatedly asking him, "Where did you get your name from?" and "Are you Muslim?"

When Ali Jr. responded that he is Muslim, the officers began questioning him about his religion and where he was born.

Muhammad Ali Jr. was born in Philadelphia in 1972 and holds a U.S. passport. But, again, that darned Arabic-sounding name .... A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection [CBP] played it off like this:
"Due to the restrictions of the Privacy Act, U.S. Customs and Border Protection cannot discuss individual travelers; however, all international travelers arriving in the U.S. are subject to CBP inspection."
Even the guy with the famous name and an American passport.

What this is, in the Age of _____, is racial, and religious, profiling, where you are stopped and questioned and detained for hours because of your name and your faith.

In America .... and yet it isn’t just those with “Arabic-sounding names” or those who are Muslim. Henry Rousso, a French historian was detained at a Houston airport for 10 hours by US immigration officials and then threatened with deportation.

It all began when border agents in Houston began to question Rousso’s visa, saying he’d been selected for a “random check”, which the Egyptian-born ... oops, Egyptian ... perhaps that explains everything ... academic claims was not some "mere coincidence".

When the immigration officer discovered Rousso was to be paid for speaking at Texas A&M University, he ordered Rousso to be deported, claiming he should have a working visa rather than a tourist visa.
“I told him I don’t need one, that the university took care of the formalities, as always, and especially, that I have been doing this for more than 30 years without any problem.”
Yes, for thirty years he’s been coming to this country without incident and yet a month in Hair Furor’s regime and he is stopped, detained, questioned, fingerprinted and searched and then threatened with deportation.

Rousso was given a phone call, and spoke with Richard Golsan, a Texas A&M professor; he told Golsan “he was waiting for customs officials to send him back to Paris as an illegal alien.”

A slew of university officials, a law professor and the director of the Immigrant Rights Clinic, swept in and succeeded in securing Rousso's release.

Rousso says he has no idea why he was detained, but did say that his situation was “nothing compared to some of the people I saw who couldn’t be defended as I was".
“That is the situation today. It is now necessary to deal with the utmost arbitrariness and incompetence on the other side of the Atlantic. I do not know what is the worst. What I know, having loved this country forever, is that the United States is no longer quite the United States." — Henry Rousso
And I think Rousso is right. We are headed in the wrong direction when the son of an athletic legend, bearing the exact same name, is detained, because his name sounds odd and because he’s Muslim, and when a visiting professor, traveling as he’s traveling for years, is detained because ... well, no one really knows why Rousso was detained  ...

In the Age of _____.

Random Musings

The first season of FX’s Feud: Bette & Joan hasn’t even started yet—it’s this Sunday, March 5, set your DVRs—but that hasn’t stopped FX from ordering a second season from creator Ryan Murphy.

And season two’s feud? Feud: Charles & Diana! No word on whether this will be the whole marriage, or just the final few years.

But still, since they can’t do Feud: Hillary & Donald, this is the next best thing.
San Francisco has never been a city to shy away from saying what it feels and, well, now this ...

Beginning on February 23rd, and continuing on, San Francisco City Hall will light up with the colors of the transgender flag—pink, white, and light blue—in response to _____’s roll back of protections for transgender students.

I think it looks gorgeous.
So, I was watching GMA this week and they were set to announce the latest contestants on Dancing With The ‘Hey, Didn’t You Used To Be Somebody?’ Stars. And amazingly enough one person who was ALLEGED to have been asked said, “Oh hell no.”

Hillary Clinton. Seriously. They asked Hillary Clinton to appear on their bumbling show.

I mean, who did they think she was: Rick Perry?
In Good LGBT News ... Arizona Wildcats recruit My-King Johnson will become the first openly gay football scholarship player in the NCAA.

King had verbally committed to UCLA before flipping to Arizona possibly, and I don’t know if this is for sure, but possibly because, when he told UA assistant coach Vince Amey about his orientation, Amey said:
“We want you to be a Wildcat.”
And that was what Johnson wanted to hear, and now he’s become a trailblazer of sorts:
“I do feel like when I say that, it can put a target on my back, but whatever.”
Exactly.

Good luck My-King ... ooh, that sounds kinda odd!
So Bates Motel is back for its final season and Mother is dead and Norman’s lost his mind and bodies are piling up at the motel.

And Rihanna is set to play the Janet Leigh role—stabbed in the shower, you know—as the season, and series ends but ...

First we have Austin Nichols, as the husband of a woman, a live woman, that Norman thinks looks suspiciously like Mother.

And Austin might not be such a good guy, but he is deliciously, evilly hot ... Carry on.
Damn it. A week or so ago American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy was on Watch What Happens Live and suggested that the next season of the fright-fest might be the scariest ever because it was going to be based on the election last fall of _____.

Talk about horror! But now Murphy is saying he might have been a wee bit drunk when he said that and walked that idea back:
“The themes of ‘American Horror Story’ have always been allegories. You will not see [Donald] Trump and [Hillary] Clinton as characters on the show.”
He did mention, though, that AHS favorite, Sarah Paulson, would make a perfect Minister of Propaganda and AlternativeFactoid.

While I might have enjoyed a horror version of that horrible election, the idea of reliving that mess for a few months might have been too much even for me.
I love this story ... did you know that when you donate to Planned Parenthood you receive a Thank You letter? And if you donate in someone else’s name they receive a Thank You note? That happened last year when thousand s of folks donated to the cause in the name of Mike Pence and he received thousands of Thank You’s.

And now folks have been donating to Planned Parenthood in the name of Greg Locke, the pastor of something called Global Vision Bible Church and poor Greg has gone off on Facebook ...
‘SINCE PLANNED PARENTHOOD IS TAKING HUNDREDS OF DONATIONS IN MY NAME, I’LL REPOST THIS VIDEO. THIS IS ONE FIGHT I WILL NOT BACK DOWN FROM.”
Easy on the all-caps, Cowboy! Who do you think you are, the president?

Locke is anti-gay, anti-women’s right, anti-choice, anti-transgender, and even went last year posting videos denouncing Target’s gender-neutral bathroom policy.

Locke is also known as a “pervert hunter” though he might not be so good at that because just three years ago he hired a youth pastor who was later arrested on multiple counts of raping a thirteen-year-old girl.

So, if you wish to donate to PP, do it in Greg Locke’s name. Thank you.
So that picture ... of Kellyanne Conway, propped up on the couch in the Oval office looking like a stuffed, dumbassed lapdog, after taking a picture of Hair Furor with representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

What a display of disrespect from the C U Next Tuesday except .... Kellyanne is the victim, y’all:
“I was very busy today and didn’t follow a lot of [the controversy] but I know there are a couple of reports at least showing what happened. And what happened is we had the largest gathering of men and women to date in the Oval Office for a picture. I was being asked to take a picture in a crowded room with the press behind us. I was asked to take a certain angle and was doing exactly that. I certainly meant no disrespect, I didn’t mean to have my feet on the couch. It is venomous, it is vicious, it bothers my children to be frank with you. I have 24/7 Secret Service protection because people do wish us harm and people should take that very seriously. I’m not a victim at all but people should take very seriously the import of their words when I meant no disrespect. This came from a journalist that is not happy that Donald Trump is the President. But I just want people to focus on the great work of the HBCU presidents and how honored we were to have them here.”
Um, Kellyanne, you remarkably dip-shitted tool? No one questions the angle at which you took the picture, but we are wondering why you propped your foul ass on the couch like one of the Queen’s prized Corgi’s and then, after the photo, played tag the picture on Facebook while still sitting on the couch like a dog.

Show some respect in the last days you have in this job. You are an embarrassment. You knew you were being photographed because you said you were in front of a slew of photographers. Seriously, bitch, and I mean that in the most disrespectful way possible, is there one topic about which you will not lie?

That’s a rhetorical question.

Now get off the couch and get back in your kennel.

Architecture Wednesday: Firehouse Conversion

The building was originally erected in the 19th century as a two-story firehouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The sleeping quarters were on the 2nd floor while the horses and buggies were housed on the ground floor; when fire trucks replaced the buggies, the structure of the ground floor was upgraded.

The firehouse closed in the 1970s and became a sculptor’s studio until the current owner, a photographer, purchased it.

It was mostly dilapidated by then; the roof was falling apart and there were no fireman poles left. The project included the conversion of the ground floor into a photo studio and gallery space, and the second floor into living spaces for the owner, bedrooms for his daughters; a third story penthouse was added which includes the master suite, a lounge and a rooftop garden.

One of the main objectives of the project was to achieve a balance of privacy and natural light, which was accomplished by the addition of a light well that penetrates the house from the new third floor roof down to the center of the second floor, washing the kitchen in daylight.

A bridge passes through this sky lit space and connects the lounge to the master bedroom suite, around which a walled-in rooftop wraps around the corner of the penthouse to allow for rooftop strolls.

I do wish that some of the old charm of the firehouse could have been maintained ... or, at the very least, it came with an on-site fireman.

ISBL Asshat of the Week: Virginia Delegate Nicholas Freitas

Last week the Virginia House of Representatives voted 54 to 38 to pass House Bill 2025.

Um, okay, so what is that? Well, it’s a bill that allows taxpayer-funded agencies and service providers a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people under the guise of religion.

Yup, Virginia, there is hate in your state, and you’re all paying for it with your tax dollars.

The bill was proposed by Delegate, and certifiable Asshat™, Nicholas Freitas, and is designed to shield any “person” from punishment from the state, civil or otherwise, if they deny services in a same-sex marriage.

You know, legal, even in Virginia, same-sex marriage.

And the bill further defines a person as a “religious organization, organization supervised or controlled by or operated in connection with a religious organization, individual employed by a religious organization while acting in the scope of his paid or volunteer employment, successor, representative, agent, agency, or instrumentality of any of the foregoing or clergy member or minister.”

Nicholas Freitas, who suffers from White Male Privilege, says:
“I fundamentally don’t believe that the government should be coercing people to do things that they don’t want to do. I take a fairly broad view of that. We don’t want to be engaging in bigoted discrimination, but when the government is engaged in a form of discrimination against a religious institution, it may require us to pass certain bills.”
Hey Nicholas, I don’t want to drive the speed limit; okay with you?

Hey Nicholas, I don’t want to pay for my groceries, I think I should eat for free; okay with you?

Hey Nicholas, I don’t like Black people or Jews or Muslims or women or Baptists or Catholics or fill-in-the-blank, so I will not be serving them; okay with you?

And, lastly, Nicholas, I don’t like hate-filled Virginia delegates who use religion to mask their hate, so I won’t be serving you; okay?

Luckily, for Virginia, there are cooler heads and one of those is Governor Terry McAuliffe, who has promised to veto the bill.

So, you're the ISBL Asshat of the Week; okay with you, Nicholas?
