ISBL Asshat of the Week: Virginia Delegate Nicholas Freitas

Last week the Virginia House of Representatives voted 54 to 38 to pass House Bill 2025.

Um, okay, so what is that? Well, it’s a bill that allows taxpayer-funded agencies and service providers a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people under the guise of religion.

Yup, Virginia, there is hate in your state, and you’re all paying for it with your tax dollars.

The bill was proposed by Delegate, and certifiable Asshat™, Nicholas Freitas, and is designed to shield any “person” from punishment from the state, civil or otherwise, if they deny services in a same-sex marriage.

You know, legal, even in Virginia, same-sex marriage.

And the bill further defines a person as a “religious organization, organization supervised or controlled by or operated in connection with a religious organization, individual employed by a religious organization while acting in the scope of his paid or volunteer employment, successor, representative, agent, agency, or instrumentality of any of the foregoing or clergy member or minister.”

Nicholas Freitas, who suffers from White Male Privilege, says:
“I fundamentally don’t believe that the government should be coercing people to do things that they don’t want to do. I take a fairly broad view of that. We don’t want to be engaging in bigoted discrimination, but when the government is engaged in a form of discrimination against a religious institution, it may require us to pass certain bills.”
Hey Nicholas, I don’t want to drive the speed limit; okay with you?

Hey Nicholas, I don’t want to pay for my groceries, I think I should eat for free; okay with you?

Hey Nicholas, I don’t like Black people or Jews or Muslims or women or Baptists or Catholics or fill-in-the-blank, so I will not be serving them; okay with you?

And, lastly, Nicholas, I don’t like hate-filled Virginia delegates who use religion to mask their hate, so I won’t be serving you; okay?

Luckily, for Virginia, there are cooler heads and one of those is Governor Terry McAuliffe, who has promised to veto the bill.

So, you're the ISBL Asshat of the Week; okay with you, Nicholas?

  5. It was good to see so many expressing their fantasies here.

Keep reason out of your lives.

It get in the way of purely emotional responses to reality.
