Annette Bening, on the GOP and the conservatives’ efforts to stoke
anti-transgender bigotry for political gain:
“They are trying to stir up all this fear in people about
trans kids and parents, and they are trying to legislate that. This should not
be scary to anybody else. This is a private, legitimate, complex, deep,
spiritual, physical, psychological experience that has to be respected and
honored. At the bottom line, life is about love. For me, the real transition
has happened as the right wing in the country has become more and more
mobilized on misinforming people about the LGBTQ community. They have been
vilifying our community and creating problems that do not exist and creating
and sowing hate and fear as a way of rallying their base. That’s obviously not
new, and it’s happened in the campaigns of the past, especially against gay
people. But now it’s transphobia, and it’s just rampant. They’re doing it at a
time when there are more and more trans people who are living openly and who
are our teachers, our writers, and our doctors … what I would wish is for every
person to have someone who is trans in their family because once somebody you
love is trans, then you get it. I am incredibly proud of [my son], and he has
carved his own way. He’s someone I do admire, and I’ve learned a lot from when
he first came out. I was very ignorant about what that meant to be a trans kid.
I, like every other parent, want to protect my kids and make sure they’re OK,
and I had a lot of learning to do. I didn’t always know what to do, and I
didn’t always make the right choices because of my own ignorance, but we got
through it [and] we all have a responsibility to protect and defend the rights
of trans folks in our world. They’re precious parts of our community.”
The attacks on trans people are personal for Bening, whose
son, writer Stephen Ira, is trans. The four-time Academy Award nominee and
recently appointed chair of the board of the Entertainment Community Fund
admitted to a certain hesitation in talking about her son publicly.
She also vowed to continue to use here platform to advocate
for trans people.
Knowledge is power; love is love; the conservative right is
wrong.

I'm glad Annette Bening is speaking out.
ReplyDeleteI am, too; she's always been open about her son, but speaking out now is especially important.
DeleteAnnette Benning 10 points
ReplyDeleteHIllary Clinton 10 points
Lara 0 points
Brian Kemp 5 points
Eminem 10 points
Trixie Mattel 10 points
Bob Slatten 10 points and a Big Mac
SCORE!!!
DeleteAnnette's so wonderful. Eminem is right (?), his base does believe he is the Second Coming. Kemps does the right thing. As for Lara... dumb as a fucking brick.
ReplyDeleteKemp scores no points for his voter suppression bills he's trying to push through in Georgia.
DeleteStill with her, too! And she did try to warn the country. On national TV. Several times.
ReplyDeleteAnnette is right and so is Eminem (never thought I'd say that) and so is Trixie. The deplorables are in a cult.
XOXO
I was surprised, pleasantly, by Eminem.

If only we could love everybody, no matter what the colour of their skin is, what their politics are, whether their religions differs from ours, what colour front door they have, etc., etc., the world would be a better place.
ReplyDeleteMind you, I cannot see anyone loving Putrid or Xi or Kim Jong Fun or Net a Yahoo, no matter how hard they try.
Maybe not love, but accept ... I'd have a hard time loving a MAGAt but if they weren't so nutty I'd accept them for who they are.
DeleteThere is so much intelligence, enlightenment, and love on display here. Lara is a moron… and a liar.
ReplyDeleteLara is trying to suck up to the bank account so Eric won't have to get a job outside the family since he's so stupid.
Deletethe dog's mother
ReplyDeleteGood collection as always.
I may need another cup of coffee.
xoxo :-)
A second cup, or third, is always a good thing.

I hadn't heard that Annette and Warren's son is trans. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm still with Hillary too. It's a fascinating thought experiment to consider how different the country would be right now if she'd been deemed the winner in 2016.
I read about their son a few years ago; they've all been open about it but it's nice to see her stand up nowadays.
DeleteI think we'd be in a much better spot if Hillary had won.
Hillary was right and Lara is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteYes and Yes.
DeleteThis sure was a thought provoking post. If our country had elections that were decided by the popular vote, then Hilary Clinton would have been president. It is interesting to think about the "what ifs" in this situation. I loved what Annette Bening said.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people were sure Hillary would win, and some didn't like her so they stayed home. Proves that we all need to vote every single time.
DeleteM&M? Who knew? But he was on the money. Each day we should all realize that our actions matter and to continue working together to build us up, not tear us down. And VOTE!
ReplyDeleteEminem surprised me, and in a good way!
