DeWine, a Rick Santorum supporter, announced last week that, while Freedom to Marry Ohio did submit the initial required 1,000 voter signatures, they did not supply an adequate description of the measure. So, their first step has failed.Hmmmm, adequate description? From a group calling itself Freedom to Marry who wanted to amend the state Constitution to undo a same-sex marriage ban.
Yeah, I'm not sure what they were intending to do either.

ReplyDeleteI always knew there was a reason not to like DeWine. I remembered seeing his ads growing up and I always felt there was something off about him.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a surprise though that this would happen in Ohio. The former Attorney General Ken Blackwell made the same "Man on Dog" comparisons as Santorum. It's a lot of bull really, but there's nothing to do but hope things change.
You know, when I worked for Mike (I was on his staff in 1983 in his Washington office) he was a fair and reasonable person. I always regretting resigning to move back to Ohio and finish college. But you do the things you do, ya know.
ReplyDeleteThen, back in 2004, Mike and Governor Bob Taft were "heading up" the effort to vote against the Ohio DOMA amendment, and that resulted in two television commercials.
But if I had the chance to speak with my former employer, it would be to say, "When you work to "protect marriage" from gay people, you are denying me - someone you know - from being on equal legal footing with everyone else."
But now that it looks like we're relocating to Baltimore, that may have to come in the form of a letter, not a face to face.
DeWine and the other brain dead homophobes are fighting a losing battle. I've never understood why they fear us so much. Perhaps they have a little bit of gay in themselves that they're afraid to recognize?

That's okay. I'll sign it again and again and again. Whatever it takes. 70% of Americans support gay marriage. Be a true representative or step down, DeWine!

The text of the summary to the proposed amendment has been rewritten (this was the problem with the failed attempt from last week), and now we are busy trying to collect a new 1000 signatures so it can be resubmitted. It is due by Monday, March 19, and there are petition drives happening in all the big cities in Ohio. Cross your fingers.
