And Another Republican Goes Down.......For Going Down On Men

Greg Davis, the Republican mayor of Southaven, Mississippi, has admitted that he is a gay man, after an audit revealed that he spent taxpayer money at a gay adult store in Canada. Oh yeah, and when he was running for mayor, he ran on that age-old platform of conservative “family values.”
Davis says he only recently realized that he was gay: “At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case. While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual — and still continue to be a very conservative individual — I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay.”
This realization came, apparently, after the audit revealed that he had spent $170,000 of city money--minus some $96,000 that he alleges he has repaid--on liquor, expensive dinners at a local restaurant and a visit to an adult store catering to gay men while on a recruitment trip to Canada.
A recruitment trip? Or cruising trip?
Once again, another closeted gay man is forced out by his own, um, hand. And once again, I say, had Greg Davis been allowed to be a gay man, and run for office as a gay man, and been accepted as a gay man, this never would have happened.
By forcing people to live in the closet, because of all this anti-gay, Die, Fag Die, burn in hell, God Hates Fags, mentality, people like Greg Davis cannot be themselves. And because they can't be themselves, they sneak about, oftentimes, lying and cheating, and stealing, to cover up their sexual orientation.
How is that right?

  1. Oh, he was recruiting for something all right. I definitely agree with you though. If he had just been honest with the world and most importantly himself, most of this situation wouldn't have amounted to anything.
