I don’t know how many ISBL Asshat of the Week awards I’ve presented on this bloggy thing since I started, but it’s safe to say that most of the awards have gone to Hate Group leaders, rightwingnuts, Republicans, and those so-called “people of faith.”
I’m certain that I have honored at least one democrat, but if I haven’t, well, then let today go down in history because, yes, Virginia, we have a Democratic ISBL Asshat of the Week award winner: S.J. Jung.
Jung is a Democrat from Queens who is running to unseat the incumbent state senator Toby Ann Stavisk, but he ain’t your Daddy’s Democrat; while most in the party have embraced LGBTQ rights and support equality for our community, Mr. Jung wants us all to go back into the closet, if you please.
In fact, he dislikes seeing The Gays so much that he doesn’t even want pictures of same-sex couples in textbooks, you know, lest some impressionable child decide to choose” to be gay. When the New York media began checking this story out — because it seemed an odd stance for a Democrat — Jung didn’t deny it; he said was a “matter of distinction, not a matter of discrimination” because, as he believes, the Bible teaches that “marriage is between a man and a woman.”
And that is the platform upon which he is running. Jung recently spoke to a group of Korean church leaders about “religious freedom” — meaning his freedom, not anyone else’s — and asked them to pray that he get elected to office:
“I pray Jesus Christ’s love to spread his message and speak through this election and your prayer of faith to make me become a warrior clad in armor. As a nation we must protect the rights and freedoms of all, regardless of their views on [marriage equality].”
The good news is that Jung doesn’t seem to stand a chance of winning the election. But he has created a whole new sub-category in the party. As the Republicans have their RINO’s — Republicans In Name Only — I guess we’ll be having Democrats In Name Only, or, wait for it, it’s good … DINO’s.
And this DINO, S.J. Jung, win’s the ISDBL Asshat of the Week award!

ReplyDeleteI've actually heard people I know use the "choose” to be gay point when they want to argue that gay people should 'stay in the closet'. Because letting them out will force gayness on others. Like it's a fad or addictive or contagious. Big sigh. HUGE. Bigger eye roll...
ReplyDeleteGiven that Jung is Korean, not German, I am not surprised on his LGBT stance; they are notoriously conservative as far as family values are concerned. The only surprise is that Jung is not a Republican
ReplyDeleteTo help y'all understand the presence of Rick Scott as governor of Dogpatch here - our last 3 Democrat candidates were all DINOs, one was the governor (as a Republican) and he switched parties to run against Rubio. I am guessing the Dino's are migrating north to escape global warming ( a term we are discouraged from using). Seriously, a lot of Republicans are going to switch parties - obviously they are not going to change anything else.
