Great News!

Y'all remember Seth Stambaugh? The gay student teacher out in Oregon who was let go from his position because he told a student he was gay. Well, read about him HERE and then come back. I'll wait.

Welcome back.

Seth Stambaugh will be reinstated to his teaching position in the Beaverton School District under an agreement reached between Lewis & Clark College and the school district.
Score one for equality and non-discrimination!
Seth Stambaughwas removed from Sexton Mountain Elementary School last September after a parent complained about a conversation Stambaugh had with a student. In that conversation, Seth Stambaugh--who had been asked if he was married--said it would be illegal for him to marry because he would choose to marry a man.
And, for that, he was let go.
But now he's back, and his attorney, Luke Perriguey, said, “Mr. Stambaugh is joyous beyond belief. He is celebrating privately with friends and family and will make a public statement to all media in the next few days.”
But Seth Stambaugh will resume his student teaching duties at Sexton Mountain Elementary School next Thursday, returning him to his regular Thursday and Friday schedule.

  1. Kids ask all sorts of questions of staff - do you have kids? how old are you? who are you going to vote for? where do you live?

It's a fine line what to answer and what not to - and not make the student feel like you are rejecting them if you do not answer. There is also an element of 'bait the teacher' in some questions. I have a feeling the question at issue was one of those questions and there were some adults in the equation.

    Froggy, you're so right.
The parents of the kid who asked Stambaugh whether he was married or not, also complained previously that he wasn't dressed appropriately enough. He was wearing a button down shirt and cardigan.
I think the parents had it out for him.
