Jasmine Crockett, Democrat
Representative from Texas, on GOP attempt to whitewash the National Museum of
American History:
“Welcome to the Republicans'
white pride rally disguised as a congressional hearing. It might be
uncomfortable for some people on this committee to hear about the true history
of America, and I hate that for them. But facts are facts. It's a fact that there
is a violent, exclusionary, discriminatory, sexist, and racist part of American
history, where our indigenous populations were forcibly displaced from their
land, where thousands of Black people were unjustly lynched, where Black people
were denied the right to vote, and they still trying to do it today. Women
needed their husbands' permission to open a bank account, where people with
disabilities were routinely excluded from schools, workplaces, and public life,
where four little Black girls were murdered by the KKK at the 16th Street
Baptist Church, and a lot of this wasn't that long ago. In fact, three of
those girls would be 77 and one would be 74. More than 40 members of Congress
serving right now would be older than them. Ruby Bridges, who was the first
Black child to desegregate an all-white school, is only 71 years old. More than
100 members of Congress serving right now are older than her. So, attacks on
the Smithsonian or any other institution that's willing to tell the true
history of America is not only an attempt to rewrite history; it's an attempt
to erase history."
If you forget history, you
are likely to repeat it … Hitler to Cankles.
American history is white and
male and Christian, yes, but it’s also Black, Brown, Yellow, Red and female,
LGBTQ+, young and old, Jewish and Catholic and Protectant and atheist and
agnostic.
And don’t ever fucking forget
that.

O'Donnell hits the nail on the head. Hunter Biden is on his way to being a National Treasure, and is making his dad proud. And Talarico is doing more than just rocking the boat.
ReplyDeleteLot's of truth in here today!
DeleteRosie can get on my last gay nerve sometimes, but she means well, and often makes a lot of sense and nails the root of the problem.
ReplyDeleteHakeem Jeffries I cannot stand.
I agree about Rosie, but she makes a strong case against Burnett.
DeleteI like Hakeem, but he needs to stand up stronger.
Talarico is kind of the future of the Dem Party. Jeffries should be taking notes. Hunter Biden? He's fantastic when taking down the MAGAts, the white supremacists and the idiots. He's back from a very dark place and does not give a fuck.
ReplyDeleteOssoff is fab. And I would. Repeatedly.
XOXO
A lot of Dems need to look at Talarico and Ossoff and Pete and Crockett to learn how it's done! How to speak up and out. Throw AOC and Bernie in that mix, too.
Deletexoxo
PS
I would Ossoff it too!
The Orange One will overturn the 22nd Amendment and claim that if FDR could do run for four terms.so can he.
ReplyDeleteThe 22nd came into law in 1951 after FDR left office, and because he'd already had four terms. FDR didn't change the law so he could stay in office and avoid going to jail.
DeleteHunter Biden is spot-on in his assessment of cankles. I think that's one of the best summaries of Trump's character I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI hope Talarico wins. It's Texas, so all bets are off. And O'Donnell is right -- Mark Burnett shoulders a lot of blame for creating the Trump monster. And bravo to Rep. Crockett -- pointing out the ages of the people who participated (willingly or not) in the fight for Civil Rights really shows how recent it all was.
Hunter nails it once again.
DeleteI certainly hope Talarico wins. Ken Paxton is the absolute worst thing.
I'd never thought of it the way Rosie did, but she makes a case against Burnett.
It's the winners who get to write history and if the Repugnants win the mid terms by fair means or, more likely, foul, then American history will be very different from the truth. But those who do not pander to Donald Duck's fairy tales there is always plenty of countries whose histories will tell a different tale from that told by Donny and his minions. Let us all hope that the Duck does not fake his way, courtesy of SCOTUS, to a win in November.
ReplyDeleteIf the GOP win, America was founded on Christian beliefs, slavery was a good thing, the Native People stole OUR land, gay people don't exist and women go back in the kitchen.
DeleteOh, and the rich get richer while the poor suffer.
the dog's mother
ReplyDeletexoxo :-)
It's all so exhausting but we can't give up hope.
ReplyDeleteThere's hope in the quotes and the people speaking.
DeleteI admire the diligent way in which you pull progressive utterances together Bob and on this occasion I stood up and applauded Hunter Biden. Regarding The Fake President's lack of humour, he got it spot on. To be funny you have to be able to laugh at yourself and bond with humankind in general. Clearly, FP was never able to do that. He has always been a nasty, spoilt brat.
ReplyDeleteCankles has no sense of humor. Though, to be fair, if he had the ability to laugh at himself he'd probably never stop laughing.
DeleteIt's refreshing to see Texas Democrats challenging the GOP narrative so cogently!
ReplyDeleteIf Texas goes Blue it'll be the best thing that's happened to them since Ann Richards,
DeleteThe Republican emperor has no
ReplyDeleteclothes, come November they’ll have to break it to him.
Rex in DC
If they can wake him up.
DeleteGold stars to all the above speakers. Some of what they said made me cry for the shambles your country is in tight now.
ReplyDeleteEvery single eligible Democrat Please, PLEASE get out and VOTE BLUE!!
Democrats vote, democrats win.
DeleteIsn’t it fascinating to see how different it is when intelligent people in government and public life speak?
ReplyDeleteWe don't get that very often during this regime.
