By now, you’ve all heard about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie from her home in Arizona. Sad; I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and I hope they find her alive and everything ends well. But … cases like these infuriate me because all the media hype surrounding the case has made its way into every single news program mostly because Nancy Guthrie is Today show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother. And because she’s white. It isn’t lost on me, nor should it be on anyone, that when a women of color goers missing, you barely get a blurb on the news before it moves to the back page. If it’s a trans woman you get almost zero news reporting, and the same goes for missing or murdered indigenous women. I wish the media would treat all missing persons stories the same and not continually give precedence to white women and young white girls, while ignoring any and every other woman that is taken.  |

Orlando is about to take a long-anticipated step at demolishing
the former Pulse nightclub to make way for a permanent memorial honoring the 49
people killed there in 2016. Some signage will be saved and become part of the memorial,
and the current shrine along S. Orange Avenue will be partially
closed during the work, though a small area will stay open so visitors can

Regrading the rant, I worked on reform/replacement of adult guardianship for years, it bothered me that Britney was on everyone's mind, but no one talked about the anonymous people in their own neighborhood who were being stripped of their rights and property and locked in facilities when all they really needed was help with housekeeping, or managing their meager income.

ReplyDeleteI think that the US need to follow the lead of most of the free world and have a health system free at the point of contact. In the UK we pay a National Insurance tax while we are working. But the tax we pay is far, far less than insurance premiums. The same is true for other European countries. It's not socialism; it's about giving everyone who needs it the health care they deserve. If you want you can have insurance, but whether you can or can't afford it, then the NHS is there for you.

*I echo your thoughts on the Guthrie situation. I thought of that from the jump. Just think how many people disappear everyday and we don't hear about them. Especially people of color.
*Don't get me started on Anderson. He has always struck me as disingenuous. He authenticity does not ring true. He comes from family of money and privilege and he has tried to act like he came from a middle class background. His relationship with Andy C. is suspect. If we are to believe all the skuttle butt about Andy the question needs to be asked, why is he hanging around with him. I say Anderson and Andy are the same peas in a pod. Anderson is just a little more skilled about hiding the crazy. Must be that blue blood upbringing.
*Good on Nayyar. Jeff B., Peter T., Elon M., Mark Z.....are you paying attention? Just think if these and other folks paid their fair share of taxes, without polices that benefit the wealthy, personally and organizationally. Our country would be so much more ahead and competing with the advances with other countries.
