Architecture Wednesday: Topanga Canyon Craftsman

This home sits in the heart of Topanga Canyon, a stunning craftsman-style home on over half an acre.

The home is a combination of warm redwood and walls of glass showcasing the best of canyon living. From the front door, you enter the living room, a space flooded with natural light and framed by elegant beamed ceilings and a classic brick fireplace.

A large dining room and open kitchen, with spacious outside entertainment spaces just steps away, make it perfect for hosting, while off the dining room is a sunroom with built-in reading nook. The second floor is the primary retreat with a spacious bath, vaulted ceilings, a stone fireplace, and French doors overlooking the lush backyard with pool, an outdoor kitchenette, and a spacious dining area.

You can’t beat the views and the sense of privacy!

  1. So wonderful on the outside, and so white on the inside. Much of that is furniture and adding color. The world needs kitchen designers who love to cook, storage and workspace are needed desperately.

    1. It does seem like an oddly narrow and small kitchen, though there were not photos of the other end. Maybe more space???

  3. Nice.... Some of the furniture doesn't quite meet period - but maybe they're family heirlooms? Given that patio and pool with that view, I'd never be inside unless it was raining.

    1. Oh no, if it comes furnished then I need to have it all removed before I set foot inside.

    2. Yep. I'd do the same --- and that bathroom vanity would be the first thing to go.

  4. A few thoughts:

*The outdoor living space is welcoming. Enjoying alfresco meals would be a treat. Now can we bury the power lines and the transformer.

*I like the interior layout. But lets beat down all that white with a color a little more complementary to the wood beams. Easy fix. The kitchens is ok. I never really cared for kitchens the size of living rooms. I would remove the vessel sink in the bathroom to something a little more particle.

*The light is abundant and gives one a pep in their step.

*The primary suite is huge. I could live up there. Just give me a coffee bar and mini fridge and I would be set.

    Have a great Wednesday!!

    1. It needs reworking. The kitchen is too small, the furnishings don't work, the master bedroom is a house on its own ... but get it for a good prize and put some coins into it and we might have something.

    2. I really don't comment on furnishings because I know the place will be empty when sold. Now some deals will allow you to buy pieces-----

    3. I would buy them to burn them.

  5. The shower's nice and so is the view, but otherwise, this didn't interest me.

    1. Oh that bathroom is hideous ... screams the 1980s and not in a good way.

  6. That is inviting. What a beautiful setting. I didn't like the ceiling beams, though.

    1. The beams should be a closer match to the floor, or vice versa!

  7. I truly amazed by the decoration of your cozy home with pure nature in surrounding. Is that a chimney?. I love swimming pool too. Its a picture perfect of a dreaming home to me for sure

    1. It needs several tweaks, but it's got possibilities.

  8. Odd. This feels to me like a major fixer upper. Just a complete turnoff. I don’t know what qualifies this as a Craftsman except that it looks kind of crafty. Sorry!

    1. I'd need to see it without furniture, but it does need a much better kitchen and that primary suite is a waste of space! I think the materials on the exterior suggest craftsman but there are no craftsman details inside.

🤔🤭 It's always a kick to see how we all see things...we're all so different in our tastes. I LOVE WHITE! I just feel clean in white rooms and I clean better because a white room points me ro what needs attention. I also love the windows and the light. I can be found on the window seat with a movie or book and a WHITE Russian!! 🥰🤣

    1. See, Cleora, I prefer colors that hide the dirt because I'm not cleaning it either way. Heh.

    2. I don't mind the white though I'd add some bold artwork.
And I'm not sure I want a dirt colored interior Deedles!

    1. It needs to be decluttered and refurnished in a more minimal style.

  13. Very nice exterior.
The interior can be updated, especially the decor. A little heavy and very 90's. They did go super trendy with that bench in the dining room (it's a nightmare for dinner parties).
    Love the little wood-burning stove!

    XOXO
