I was sad and discouraged on Wednesday; stunned, shocked,
though I guess not surprised. I thought America had evolved from racist and
misogynistic tropes and could elect a woman, and a woman of color, but men, who
clearly vote with their dicks, couldn’t handle it; couldn’t handle the idea of
a woman, with ideas, and plans, and hopes for the future being president.
So, they chose a rapist … I guess if he didn’t rape your
wife or daughter he’s okay.
They chose a racist who has denied housing to Black
Americans, who has called people like my husband drug dealers, murderers
and rapist; who has called an entire country garbage by not standing up against
the jackass who said it; who said Haitians eat dogs even after he was proven to
be a liar; who says children are being forced to undergo gender reassignment
surgeries in elementary school.
Liar.
They chose a traitor who praised Putin over his own country.
They’re scared little men who chose a scared little man and I will not sit by
and not speak up.
A “friend”—I put the word in quotes because I’m evaluating
friendship in this case—and here’s a bit of what he said to me:
“If you want the country to be diverse, as it was intended,
you have to understand diversity of people brings a diversity of
beliefs and values. Agree to disagree and love each other. Also, just
because you vote one way, doesn’t mean you support everything that party
believes. I’m a gay marriage supporting, gun loving, marijuana legalizing,
women’s choice (to a certain point), low tax and small government type of guy.”
He supports same-sex marriage but voted for a party that is
intent on ending marriage equality, so um, yeah, Michael, you are not so
gay-friendly.
But it’s not just same-sex marriage … annulling present
marriages and prohibiting new ones. They will come for trans rights and deny
healthcare to trans Americans; and then
it’s the drag queens. Eventually, they’ll get around to simply eliminating all
equal rights for LGBTQ+ Americans in housing, employment, anywhere they choose.
Now, of course, not everyone will abide by these ideals but the fact is this
new regime will legitimize hate and discrimination.
He supports women’s choice “up to a point,” he says, and I
wonder, and, as my Mom would say, excuse my French, “Who the fuck are you to
decide which point?” You do not support a women’s right to choose and
add a caveat to the statement; you either support women in every choice they
make because it’s their body and their choice, or you do not support women at
all.
Which brings me to low-tax and small government. How small can government be when they are putting their
hands all over a woman’s body, as a pussy-groper likes to do, and telling her
what she can do with it? And when did The Felon say he was lowering taxes on
anyone other than billionaires?
I want government to tell Michael that he has to have a
vasectomy until he gets married and at that point he can have it reversed.
That’s one way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy Mike … snip, snip. But that’s
invasive on you, isn’t it?
I hope I am proven wrong, but please spare me your
heterosexual “It’s not so bad” line. Everything is up for change unless you are
a straight white Christian Nationalist male … and this will be felt for a very
long time. I feel we are headed back to a very dark time in our history and
when you think about how long it took us to even try digging out of it back
then, think how hard it will be now. You don’t know just yet what you’ve done with your vote.
And Democrats; oh democrats. How many of you stayed home,
again, because a woman was running? How many of you stayed home because of her
laugh or the way she spoke, and figured other people would carry the party to
victory. You clearly learned nothing from 2016 and so when times change and it
gets dark in America and you come to me to complain about this new regime. Forgive for saying:
“What the actual fuck did you do to change it?”
You chose the price of eggs over democracy; you male
Democrats chose your fragile ego over freedoms for all; you ignored the woman
who laid out plans for the middle-class, for small businesses, for women’s
rights, for a bloated gasbag who admitted, admitted, that he has no
plans, just the concept of a plan. You fucked America so kindly step aside and
keep your mouth shut.
And so did the media. Oh, not Fox News because they’ve
admitted in court they are not a news organization, but a low brow, low intellect, conspiracy spreading
gossip machine. But don’t you nod CNN, because you aren’t much better.
You let The Felon get away with saying whatever he wanted on
your network without so much as a fact-check; you call his stories
disinformation or misinformation which are big words for lies; lies. You never
called him out on a lie, you never questioned his behavior. But god forbid Joe
Biden take a pause in a sentence and the demented line pops up; the too old to
be president line.
Sure, Joe stumbled and mumbled, but when The Felon turns a
rally into a 39-minute dance break, or when he performs fellatio on a microphone
stand or talks about the penis size of a dead golfer or cannot open a door on a
dump truck you say nothing about his mental capacity.
Was that because the man in charge at CNN was a Felon supporter
or because he was news, not for intellect, not for any redeeming value, but for
being a pompous blowhard and you saw your ratings go up so you never questioned
him, never called him out, never reported that what he said was a lie.
You’ve lost whatever credibility you ever had over your
reporting of Demented DonOLD. But let’s move on … let’s look forward ….
As Kamala Harris said on Wednesday:
“The fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness and
the dignity of all people, a fight for the ideals at the heart of our nation,
the ideals that reflect America at our best—that is a fight I will never give
up.”
And I won’t either. I ask for new Democratic leaders who
speak truth to power, who call out the blatant lies of a criminal, of the far
right, of that news entertainment show; I ask Democrats to show us
better and give us better.
I need more Democrats like Pete Buttigieg and Hakeem
Jeffries to speak up louder and longer; I see hope in Sarah McBride, the newly
elected, first openly transgender member of Congress after winning Delaware’s
only House seat: I see hope in Maryland’s Angela Alsobrooks, that state’s first
Black senator; hope in Lisa Blunt Rochester, the first Black and first female
senator from Delaware; hope in Emily Randall, the first out LGBTQ+ person
elected to Congress from Washington State; hope in Yassamin Ansari, the first
Iranian American woman to represent Arizona in Congress: hope in Julie Fedorchak, the first woman to
represent North Dakota in the House of Representatives; hope in Julie Johnson, the first out LGBTQ
person elected to Congress from Texas; hope in Jeffrey Graham, a local
politician in Camden who has been elected to the Senate of South Carolina as a Democrat
running on a platform of women’s right to make their own healthcare decisions.
I see hope there; I see change there; I see Democrats who
will fight for equality and diversity and women and the people of color and Indigenous
peoples and the LGBTQW+ community, and children in schools, and immigrants who
many on the right forget built this country.
I need us to fight.
I need us to win.
I need us together. |
Well said, and very much appreciated. Gives me hope.
ReplyDeleteWe can still have hope, but we have to do the work, too.
DeleteLove
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYou're expressing a lot of people's feelings right now.
ReplyDeleteWhich means we all need to get to work to fix this!
DeleteYour "friend" supports women's choice to a certain degree? Why shouldn't women have the same right of choice as men?
ReplyDeleteThat's what I told him, but a female friend of mine put it better for him: "Mind your own fucking business."
DeleteAt work on Wednesday, a Trumper told me "now, prices are going to come down," and I laughed in his face. They will shrink the government by cutting programs and eliminating subsidies to states, which will force states to raise taxes, and all the while our Federal Tax rate will stay the same because we're going to need to pay for that billionaire's tax cut.
ReplyDeleteMAGAts are dumb.
DeleteI feel exactly the same way. You stated this well Bob. And the Democrats that didn't vote set the party wayyyyyy back now. It is what has always drove me nuts over the party wishy washy voters. I will say the Republicans most of the time vote no matter what historically. Take note Dems.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was talking to a friend last night who lived in New York at the time when Donald Trump was married to Ivana. My friends daughter was invited to a trump function with a friend. My friends warning to them become hand was to stay away from trump. He's a groper, that one.
I hope this trip helps my funk. I haven't even felt like blogging.
We all need to feel our feelings and be angry and sad, but then get back into it and get some work done.
DeleteI have decided that when the š© hits the fan, and when the MAGAts are surprised and complaining about the š©, my response will be: "Don't complain ... You voted for this š©!"
ReplyDeleteI'm surrounded by "them" in this building I live in! Just discovered another one yesterday ... She didn't like the ads Kamala ran on TV. Evidently she wasn't offended by the Orange Lump's disgusting ads!
I am taking the same route as you Marcia! And I hope I get to say it often!!!! LMAO!!!!!
DeleteThose people who say they didn't like her ads or her laugh are trying to hide the fact that they are either racist and/or misogynistic.
DeleteI have figured out that it's going to be the MAGA who get rid of Trump. Now hear me out. The republicans have been trying to privatize the government since Reagan. And one of the first things they are going to do is get rid of social security and disability. Things a whole lot of MAGA live on. So when they miss their first couple of checks. They are going to descend on DC with all their guns the republicans have been pushing on them. And that should be the end of the MAGA movement.
DeleteWhat saddens me the most? 53% of white women voted for the pedophile rapist. The media were a bunch of cowards - afraid they would lose their broadcast liscenses. Yesterday, now he's won, they **really** toned down the rhetoric. It shows what cowards they truly are.
ReplyDeleteWhen Musk is done firing all the federal employees and unemployment goes up and they refuse to help them with unemployment insurance, when... Oh, the list is too large.
My in-laws voted for him all 3 times. My wife is hurt to her core - again. It remains to be seen if she will severely curtail contact. Probably not. (heavy sigh)
It gets worst. I hear rumors that Margorie Taylor Green may be head of the Dept of Education!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That should be great for the futureof childern.
DeleteIt's going to get ugly and it's going to leave quite a mess for Democrats to clean up AGAIN!
DeleteWell, fuck them.
ReplyDelete'Agree to disagree' is not a thing. We can agree to disagree on pineapple on pizza, but not on basic human rights.
These people have made their bed and now everybody will have to share it with them. It's not going to be pleasant.
XOXO
I can agree to disagree on certain things but not now, not ever equal rights.
Deletexoxo
Bob, your heart-felt post was beautiful. I'm just sorry it all had to be written. I am disappointed in the Dem turn-out; disappointed and overwhelmingly saddened.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan. I was just trying to look forward; what happened Tuesday is what happened, and now we work toward getting the GOP out of office at every single level.

DeleteI've lived through many awful presidents but this guy is the worst. Sad days.
ReplyDeleteTruth, but don't give up!
DeleteThank you so much for summarizing thought that have haphazardly been swirling in my brain. Now my hackles of suspicion, distrust and contempt are even more on-point. Congratulation, MuriKKKa - you just crowned Caligula II.
ReplyDeleteNow we just need to work together to dethrone him and all of the GOP!
DeleteThere are plenty of things we can all agree to disagree on. Donald Trump is not one of them. You are so right. And that guy is NO friend. He’s lying to himself and lying to you.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I basically said "Keep your opinions to yourself around me."
DeleteI think there are a lot of people like your "friend" who have convinced themselves that much of what Trump and his cronies have promised will never come to pass. Won't they be surprised?
ReplyDeleteI doubt they'll see it or even believe it.
DeleteWell said!
ReplyDeleteAs one who still remembers the dishonorable and illegal ploys used 4 years ago by the still dishonorable GOP, I wonder if they tampered with the results in some yet undiscovered way that I hope is found, well publicized, and taken to court before January 20, 2025. If not, heaven help us all.
I'd even enjoy them finding some criminal activity after January and dragging his ass from the White House.
DeleteWorks for me!!
DeleteI am so disappointed in the American people ----If we are playing the blame game this is who I see at fault-----Harris ran a great campaign ----Perfect no----But damn near----Black women are pissed at White women because once again they did not support a women ---53% of White women voted for Diaper Don----These women did it to Hillary and now Kamala---They brought the current environment on themselves---Black women are tired of doing the heavy lifting---Just sick and tied---54% percent of Latino men voted for Mussolini Don---55% of White men voted for Orange Man----And Gen Xers-41-56 years of age voted for Bad Hair Don and ruined the advancement of their kids---And for a 4 alarm fire type election a lot of people just stayed home---The number of people who voted this election was smaller than for Uncle Joe---I have been easing back into the mainstream media to see how they are spinning this----They have to whip things up for the next four years because it sells----And let me tell you they are in rare form---I cannot bear to hear Chris Hayes and his "I am smarter than everyone in the room" diatribe----The MSM is spinning that the Democrats need to regroup and do better----Hone their message---Really---Is that how you are spinning it---Maybe a small percentage---How about just cutting to the chase----The American people caused this mess, they wanted the chaos that is about to be unleashed---Buckle up kids----They knew better---This is what they wanted----Racism and patriarchy is the soup du jour---Hell,, look at the foundation of the US Constitution---Only White, land owner men need to apply---As I stated, Harris did a bang up of a job in the 3 months she had to campaign----I was listening to a a few Latinos in Las Vegas talking about Diaper Don's win----They were talking about immigrants as criminals---They expressed their concerns about the economy----They believe the newly elected president is going to address their concerns----I have said it elsewhere, critically thinking comes hard for some----This I can be assured of, things will get worse before it gets better---

***This surprising TikTok video Joy Reid posted on her Instagram about this White guy declaring that they have to be supreme in the land FOREVER is eye-opening.

Cheaper eggs won out, and the joke is that prices are not going down with Felon Tariffs on the horizon.
DeleteAs always, very eloquently stated, Bob. And yes, even though we’re all depressed as hell now, we need to pick ourselves up and restructure the Democratic Party with a younger, more vibrant base of leaders who can work to get America back on track.
ReplyDeleteI need Democrats to stand up; not play dirty but don't play nice. Speak truth; call out lies. Go on effing YouTube and watch Pete Buttigieg on Fox News doing exactly that!
DeleteYou often echo my own sentiments and today is no different.
ReplyDeleteI realized that up until now, I could believe that America was still the America I thought I always lived in. Today I understand that the only thing that has changed is that we are no longer the Americans I thought we were. Half of us make me ashamed to my core.
We must and will find a way forward…don’t go reading any histories of Italy and Germany in the 1920’s, though.
We must resist and fight and vote and demand better of our Democrat politicians and our so-called Free Press.
DeleteAnything less would be giving up.
That's very nicely written, and brings about positive feelings. While I'm sure the proportion of 'others' in parliament is not in proportion to the numbers in your population, it is good to see some there.
ReplyDeleteWe have to grieve the loss, but still move on. It's the only choice.
DeletePowerful, intelligent and heartfelt words Bob. America's Democrats have a lot of thinking and planning to do if they are to be victorious in 2028.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have our work cut out for us.
DeleteWell said, Bob. There is a myriad of emotions in the grief that everyone works through. However, I have no doubt that your anger will never completely die, but rather you've turned to resolve to change things for the better.
ReplyDeleteI follow a sub on Reddit, LeopardsAteMyFace and the number of stories of people (like Mike) who have already come to realize the impact IQ45 and his ilk (Miller and Musk in particular), will have on them personally is astounding. Eggs may go down in price temporarily, but I'll be betting Mike will have egg on his face in short order.
You are so right about Mike ...
DeleteWhat you need now is for the Democrats to get busy, get to work, have plans and policies in place ready to go when the next election rolls around. Let them make all the small changes they can, let the people see them doing it and maybe things will turn around. Let them fight against every bad choice Trump and his minions make and try to enforce.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats in office need to work for us, and Democratic voters need to stand up and vote.
DeleteThank you. I really needed to her this message. I'm a 'glass-half-full; kind of guy but I'm really struggling with the results of the election. Most of all, I'm discouraged to realize the selfishness of so many Americans who turned their backs on logic and reality. Like you, I question the value of maintaining friendships with some 'friends' (and even family members) who voted for Trump.
ReplyDeleteThe most important wisdom of your message was to keep fighting. I've been seriously considering leaving the US because I'm no longer sure that I want to be an American citizen, Certainly our American forefathers struggled to come to grips with their identity. Maybe that's what my husband and I must do as well.
You and I seem to feel the very same way. I have never had an issue with Republicans, I see it as a difference of opinion, but when you vote AGAINST people--LGBTQ, women, People of Color etc--and equality, I'm done.
DeleteMy rights should count more than a carton of eggs.
That said, this is my country toom, and I will stay and fight and hopefully find more like-minded people to do the same!
RESIST!
YES!YES!YES! We're now dealing with one of those issues within our family right now and it's becoming increasingly difficult not to slap the shit-eating grin off their face! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI nicked your "Resist" photo, sweetpea! xoxo
