I Ain't One To Gossip But ...

It was just three years ago that Demi Lovato suffered a heroin overdose, from which she recovered and decided to live a sober lifestyle.

Now Demi has decided to classify themselves—Lovato's pronouns are ‘they’ and ‘them’—as, ahem,  as “California sober,” meaning they can still smoke weed and drink.

Sounds to me like ‘California Sober’ is just the first step toward rehab or death.

Sorry, Demi, you can’t be ‘a little bit’ sober.

Olivia Jade Giannulli, Lori Loughlin’s social-media-famous daughter and college-unworthy “rower”, has lashed out at the HBO Max reboot of Gossip Girl which, she says, claimed she capitalized on her parents’ college-admissions scandal and subsequent jail time.

On the show one character quipped that Olivia Jade raked in social media followers because her mom and dad sent to the Big Fuller House over cheating their daughters’ way into USC.

Olivia Jade, clearly not the sharpest oar in the water—see what I did there? She faked photos of herself on the rowing team so I used oar and … I’ll stop—Tweeted back to the show:

“No, I didn’t.”

Wow, she’s quick. I’m surprised she couldn’t get into USC on her own merits. No, I’m not.

This is the first ad for the Samantha-less reboot of Sex and the City  called  And Just Like That… Something Nobody Asked For. I kid, I added that last bit.

The three remaining ladies—Cynthia Nixon as Miranda, Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte—are pictured strolling next to a trash can … which is where most of their careers went until someone sold this mess to HBO, and just look at their faces.

SJP’s says, “I’m getting more money than these two ho’s for this drivel.”

Kristen’s says, “Did I get enough Botox and fillers to make me look younger than SJP?”

And Nixon’s face says, “I was a candidate for governor and now I’m back to this shiz?”

Sorry HBO, no Samantha, no me.

Can you feel the shift in the force after Meghan McCain announced she was leaving the show? It’s good, right? But Meghan, never one to do anything quietly, is responding to the haters and the gossipers who ruining the internet saying McCain was forced pout because no one on the show likes her. Meghan took to social media to respond like this, in a Tweet that has since been deleted:

“So much chatter, so much gossip, so many, many, many questions people are asking me this past week … I pride myself on always taking big risks, rolling the dice, and making unpredictable life and career choices. I’ve never fit in a box and I never will.”

She concluded the post with the New Hampshire state motto:

“Live free or die.”

All that’s missing is the foot stop, Meghan running down the hallway, a slamming door, and the sound of muffled tears in a pillow.

#ByeKaren

The only thing I’ll miss are those tragic daily hair accidents.

Lotsa people are Team Britney, as the pop singer, Britney Spears, seeks to extricate herself from the conservatorship she’s been under for what seems like decades, but leave it to Madonna to overdo it … much like her face and makeup and, um, “singing’.

In her Instagram Stories, Madonna slammed the conservatorship and compared it to slavery and then positioned herself as a modern-day Harriet Tubman trying to steal Britney towards freedom:

“Give this woman her life back. Slavery was abolished so long ago! Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries. This is a violating of human rights! Britney, we coming to get you out of jail!”

Cue Madge dropping from the ceiling of the courthouse and grabbing Britney up to safety. Then cue Madge trying to make some money off of it.

I think there’s room on the Karen Bench with Meghan.

And now for something sweet and fun from a real star … Back in 1978 Dolly Parton was asked to pose for Playboy; she declined but did pose in the iconic bunny costume for a cover of the magazine. And Dolly infamously said she’d pose for Playboy when she was seventy-five.

Well, she’s seventy-five, but she has outlived Playboy, so did the next best thing. For her husband Carl Dean’s 79th birthday, Dolly recreated her Playboy cover and showed Carl and the world that she’s still got it, saying:

“Today is July 20. It’s my husband Carl’s birthday and you’re probably wondering why I’m dressed like this. Remember some time back I said I was going to pose for Playboy magazine when I was 75? Well, I’m 75 and they don’t have a magazine anymore but my husband always loved the original cover of Playboy, so I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy. He still thinks I’m a hot chick after 57 years—and I’m not going to try to talk him out of that. I did a little photoshoot in this little outfit and I had a cover made of the new Dolly. The first one, remember this? I was kind of a little butterball in that one. Well, I’m string cheese now. But he’ll probably think I’m cream cheese … I hope.”

Yes, ma’am.

I Didn't Say It

Mitch McConnell, urging people—well, to be fair, mostly Republicans—to get vaccinated:

“It never occurred to me after three highly effective vaccines were developed in under a year that we’d have difficulty getting Americans to take the shots, but that’s obviously where we are. These shots need to get in everybody’s arm as rapidly as possible or we’re going to be back in a situation in the fall that we don’t yearn for that we went through last year. I don’t know how I could be any more clear than I have been. I’ve been saying the same thing about vaccinations all along the way. Others can say whatever they choose to say, but this is something I think I’m a good example of, something I know the answer to. It is not at all unclear that the way to avoid getting back in the hospital is to get vaccinated. I want to encourage everybody to do that and to ignore all of these other voices that are giving demonstrably bad advice.”

Um, Bitch, er, Mitch? I don’t recall you standing side-by-side with the current president urging people to get vaccinated. I don’t recall you pushing it at all until you realized that with this Delta Variant only the unvaccinated seem to be dying, which means your constituents. And only then, when you realized your supporters might die, have you spoken up, so you can take your earnest little statement and shove it up your ass because you are part of the problem.

photo

Sean Hannity, Fox News, urging his audience to get the COVID vaccine:

“Please take COVID seriously, I can’t say it enough. Enough people have died. We don’t need any more deaths. Research like crazy, talk to your doctor, your doctors, medical professionals you trust based on your unique medical history, your current medical condition, and you and your doctor make a very important decision for your own safety. Take it seriously. I believe in science, I believe in the science of vaccination.”

Hannity downplayed the deadliness of the virus for a year but now that it’s his audience most likely to become infected and die, he’s also suddenly speaking out. Pandering hack; meanwhile, also at Fox …

photo

Brian Kilmeade, Fox News, not really pushing for people to be vaccinated, but flip-flopping on listening to a president dispense healthcare advice:

“Now that vaccines are open to everyone and information expertise are everywhere, why does it matter how many COVID cases we have in this country? Now that we all have a choice in how to handle our personal health including vaccines, distancing, masks, why do we need the president of the United States and Facebook to shut us down and shut down our lives once again? And for those of you who think it’s just a California problem, you are wrong. It’s now a Las Vegas problem, and soon every liberal city will soon follow suit. We have seen this movie. But let’s get this straight. 97 percent of COVID hospitalizations are unvaccinated people who, by the way, made their own choice not to be vaccinated. And if you need a reason to get vaccinated, I guess you just got one. But, since when do we count on the president of the United States for healthcare advice? Let me answer that, we do not, but that isn’t stopping him from offering up his unsolicited unscientific input.”

People still aren’t getting the vaccine or masking or socially distancing, and so they and now dying.

It’s funny that Kilmeade pushed all of Thing 45’s cures last year, the bleach and hydroxychloroquine and anything else, when 600,000+ people were dying, but he doesn’t push a vaccine because … Democrat.

photo

Mitt Romney, a Republican urging Americans to get vaccinated and calling the rising politicization of vaccines within his party “moronic”:

“It’s grossly misfortunate and a huge human cost to have made vaccination political. After all, [Thing 45] and his supporters take credit for developing the vaccine, why the heck won’t they take advantage of taking the vaccine they received plaudits for having developed?”

Short answer: ignorance. Fed by the GQP and Fox News. Yes, MAGAts get their medical advice from people like Fucker Carlson and Steve Scalise.

photo

Madison Cawthorn, poster boy for the modern-day Hitler youth, also at CPAC, lying about Democrats going  door-to-door to push people to get vaccinated:

“They’re starting to talk about going door-to-door to take the vaccines to the people. Think about the mechanisms they would have to build to be able to actually execute that massive of a thing. And then think about what else those mechanisms could be used for. They could then go door-to-door take your guns. They could go door-to-door to take your bibles.”

He really has a pretty little mouth that would be better put to use with a dick in it.

Luke Prokop, pro hockey player, coming out just weeks before entering his first NHL training camp with the Nashville Predators:

“While the past year and a half has been crazy, it has also given me the chance to find my true self. I am no longer scared to hide who I am. Today I am proud to publicly tell everyone that I am gay. It has been quite the long journey to get to this point in my life, but I could not be happier with my decision to come out. From a young age I have dreamed of being an NHL player, and I believe living my authentic life will allow me to bring my whole self to the rink and improve my chances of fulfilling my dreams. I wouldn’t be able to do this without my amazing family, friends and agents—who have known this about me and met me with love every step of the way. I hope that in sharing who I am I can help other people see that gay people are welcome in the hockey community, as we work to make sure hockey truly is for everyone. I may be new to the [LGBTQ+] community but I am eager to learn about the strong and resilient people who came before me, and paved the way so I could be more comfortable today. This is just the beginning of my journey and I am anxious to see where it takes me both in hockey and in life.”

Welcome out, Luke, and please accept, as our gift from KOMO HQ, the Official Coming Out Toaster Oven™ and a copy of the Gay Agenda.

Your giant step will help so many, especially athletes, step out, too. So, thanks and, again, Welcome out.

Bobservations

While away for a long weekend, Carlos and I ventured into a little shop in Saluda that had some very cool art and some kitschy things, too. I noticed a pillow, and said to Carlos:

“I love this pillow… it says, ‘I love you more today than yesterday. Yesterday you really got on my nerves.’”

From across the little shop, a howler monkey screeched:

“What did I do yesterday?”

The shopkeeper and I had a good laugh at that one, and then I bought the pillow.

Even he knows you can’t stop a pandemic by not getting a vaccine, not wearing a mask, and then taking three steps back to last March when this all started.

Jeff Bezos says he heard from people that have been to space saying the experience changes you.

So, um, is he not coming back as a greedy self-entitled, making money off the loser class pig?

Asking for a country.

I am not a gin fan—sorry Maddie—but while staying with Neal and David for a long weekend, David suggested a gin martini made with Monkey 47 Dry Gin, and it was delicious.

I may be a convert ….

According to legend, over 300 years ago a young Cherokee Indian chief fell in love with a fair Indian maiden. They often met on top of the rock ledge overlooking the valley below. When the young chief was called to war, the maiden promised him that she would wait for his return from their favorite rock ledge. But after she learned her love had died in battle, she climbed to the edge of the rock and jumped off. Native American legend has it that on moonlit nights, you can see the ghost of the maiden on Jump Off Rock.

I don’t know about that. But the views of the valley are spectacular. Plus, the day we were there, rain was coming, as you can see in the first photo below.

Our friends David and Neal collect a great many things and have them on display in their homes. Normally, it all gives me anxiety because it’s so much … I tend to like a less is more approach.

But their Piano Room at the new house, even filled with artwork and tchotchkes, was my favorite room in their house. Of course, that might have been because Carlos never met a piano he didn’t want to play and would serenade us each afternoon.

Neal and David also have two of the most adorable dogs, Abby and Marley, who are lovelies … well-behaved lovelies. Marley has a blue eye and a brown eye and the most expressive face. I tried to get them to come home with us, but, alas, they love their Daddies too muchand weren't too sure about cats.

Saluda has been taken over by The Gays …and not just Neal and David. A gay couple opened a little coffee/lunch spot called the Wakey Monkey, which Carlos, in his juvenile, adorable brain, instantly dubbed the Whack-y Monkey.

In addition, to the Wakey Monkey a gay couple purchased an abandoned inn up the hill from town and are refurbishing it and plan to open the inn again soon.

The Gays; we make everything better.

And, while y’all know I am not a real big fan of what goes on inside most churches, I love looking at the buildings, and the Episcopal Church in Saluda is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen in a long while.

So peaceful …

And while we’re on the subject of religion, I’d just like to add that I could worship at the altar of Christian Mazzilli.

That’s all.

You Know What They Say About Big Shoes ...

Architecture Wednesday: minimum/MAXIMUM

minimum/MAXIMUM is a desert contemporary home built into a gem of a site that has some of the most panoramic and unobstructed views of Red Rock Canyon and Sandstone Bluff that one could ever hope for.

It’s called minimum/MAXIMUM  because  the home makes minimum impact to the existing native landscape, while maximizing the stunning site view of Red Rocks. The home is built to last with durable Doug Fir concrete, exposed structural steel, and cor-ten weathering steel that will patina with time. The interiors are a warm compliment to the exterior materials with Vegas Rock stone, white oak flooring, reclaimed wormwood cladding, blackened steel, burnished plaster, and concrete.  The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home also uses solar panels, roof gardens, and more green technologies to make it a perfect off-grid retreat.

But what I like are the views, and that long glassed-in hallway beneath the great room that leads to the main bedroom, with its own spectacular views, access to outside, and gorgeous main bathroom. What I also like is the rusted metal siding, which mimics the desert landscape, and the ultra-modern great room with black kitchen and warm wood floors. And then you have that upstairs and downstairs outdoor living space, which is perfect for Carlos and me, because he’d stay up, away from the inevitable snakes, and I could be down at the firepit enjoying the desert.

As always, click to emBIGGERate …
