Vote Blue .. . And Here's Why, AGAIN!!!

It’s been a few weeks since we checked in on the GOP and their special brand of bigotry and ignorance, so let’s dive right in …

INDIANA

Last week the city of Westfield deleted Twitter and Facebook posts that recognized Pride Month under the direction of Mayor Andy Cook because he says the city “should not engage in supporting a social agenda.”

The city has previously posted celebrations of Black History Month and Juneteenth without Cook complaining about any “social agenda”  but they are clearly trying to erase us.

MONTANA

The state legislature has passed a bill to specifically ban people dressed in drag from reading books to children at public schools and libraries, part of a host of legislation aimed at the rights the LGBTQ+ community.

As RuPaul says, Reading is fundamental, but the library is closed to drag queens trying to read children’s books to children.

TEXAS

Texas Congressman, and a Republican because … of course … Chip Roy wants to defund the entire U.S. military because an Air Force base is hosting a few Pride events in June.

This is the GOP; defund the entire military because The Gays.

Ant then the Texas House gave initial approval to a bill restricting children from seeing sexually explicit performances; the bill was originally designed to restrict kids from attending drag shows, but its most recent version seeks to criminalize any live performance that the bill defines as sexual.

The party who stands against the idea of more government now wants to tell parents how they can and cannot raise their children.

NORTH CAROLINA

The state GOP has proposed the “Clarify Regulations on Adult Entertainment” bill that would prohibit “adult live entertainment” on private property in the presence of anyone under age 18 and not allow it at all on public property.

Now the GOP wants to tell Americans what they can do on their own property.

FLORIDA

Ron DeSantis has signed a bill imposing tough new penalties and restrictions on undocumented immigrants in Florida that, among other things, requires employers to use E-Verify to make sure workers are authorized to work in the U.S.

As a result, Latin American truck drivers were threatening to stop delivering to and in Florida, and migrant workers and construction workers are leaving their jobs as well.

Keep in mind that DeSaster will do the same for this entire country effectively destroying the economy.

Also note that DeSantis signed a bill to bar state colleges and universities from spending money on diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and limiting how race can be discussed in many courses.

In college, adults cannot be taught about diversity and equality and race.

In Ron DeSantis’ “Straight Whites Only” state.

Oh, and also in Florida under DeSantis, the state education department rejected two new Holocaust-focused textbooks for classroom use, while forcing at least one other textbook to alter a passage about the Hebrew Bible in order to meet state approval.

If we don’t teach the Holocaust how can we stop it from happening again; and if you don’t think it will, keep watching.

PS  DeSantis proclaims himself Israel’s best friend and during a visit there last month he credited a prayer he inserted into the Western Wall with warding off a major hurricane. DeSantis also had his children baptized with water from the Sea of Galilee.

But he doesn’t want his children to learn about the Holocaust.

NORTH DAKOTA

GOP Governor Doug Burgum has signed a bill to prohibit public schools and government entities from requiring teachers and employees to refer to transgender people by the pronouns they use. The new law also requires teachers to out the children to their parents and bans  transgender students from using the bathroom of their choice without prior approval from a parent or guardian.

They are coming for Free Speech.

OKLAHOMA

GOP Governor Kevin Stitt vetoed a bill to fund the state’s PBS station, Oklahoma Educational Television Authority through 2026, accusing the station of indoctrinating young children with shows like “Sesame Street,” “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” and “Clifford The Big Red Dog.”

Stitt is pissy because of a “PBS Newshour” feature on parents’ support for various gender care treatments, a gay character in “Work It Out Wombats,” and the news that “Clifford the Big Red Dog” introduced LGBTQ characters.

Stitt says these anti-LGBTQ+ moves don’t represent his values but says he represents the taxpayers.

Just the hate-filled, anti-LGBTQ+ bigoted ones, apparently.

GOOD NEWS

TEXAS

A push to inject religion into public schools faltered after the House failed to pass a contentious bill that would have required the Ten Commandments to be displayed prominently in every classroom. The measure was part of an effort by conservative Republicans expand the reach of religion … be clear, only Christianity … into public schools.

I’ll remind the Texas GOP: Separation of Church and State.

OREGON

The State Senate failed to reach quorum again, meaning six additional Republican senators have now disqualified themselves from running for reelection under Article IV, Section 15 of the Oregon Constitution.

The Senators in question all hit 10 unexcused absences—refusing to show up for votes in which the GOP side would lose—and under Measure 113, passed by 68% of voters in November, they are now barred from running for their current Senate seat in the next election.

Now just three of the state’s Republican senators are left to run for re-election at the end of their term.

MONTANA

The State Supreme Court has solidified protections for abortion access and will allow nurses with advanced degrees to continue performing abortions in Montana; all seven supreme court justices agreed that the law unconstitutionally interferes with Montanan’s right to privacy to seek medical care from the provider of their choosing.

As of now, women in Montana still have some rights.

MISSISSIPPI

The church-state separation watchdog American Atheists has won a lawsuit to remove mandatory “In God We Trust” language from the state’s official license plate. American Atheists filed suit on behalf of the Mississippi Humanist Association, accusing state officials of violating nonreligious people’s freedoms of speech and religion by forcing them to display “In God We Trust” on their personal vehicles.

GOP Governor Tate Reeves has boasted about the “In God We Trust equating the phrase with “Mississippi’s values,” insinuating that only Christians are real Mississippians.

Not so fast, asshat.

OKLAHOMA

The state Supreme Court has tossed out two state laws outlawing abortion. One bill would have banned abortion when a fetal heartbeat was detected, which is usually at six weeks and before most women know they are pregnant, while the other bans the procedure starting at conception.

A win for women’s rights.

NEVADA

Joe Lombardo is one of the first Republican governors to enshrine protections for out-of-state abortion patients and in-state abortion providers, making Nevada another state that has solidify their status as safe havens for abortion patients.

Lombardo, who describes himself as “pro-life” and was endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee, says he respects the will of voters who codified abortion rights up to 24 weeks in a 1990 referendum vote.

As it should be done.

ALABAMA

In a decision that is a major victory for the Voting Rights Act, the US Supreme Court struck down Alabama’s racist House map, finding that the state discriminated against Black voters when it drew its seven congressional districts last year.

Alabama will have to redraw its congressional map to include a second majority-Black district. Black voters currently comprise a majority of the voting age population in just one district, despite making up a quarter of the state’s population.

A strike against racist GOP tactics to keep Black Americans from voting.

ARIZONA

Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed a GOP-backed bill that would have put legal requirements on public school bathrooms and denied transgender students from using the bathrooms that match their gender identity.

Good news.

LOUISIANA

Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards has vowed to veto the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and says he will veto other bills that would seek to ban gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth and bills to ban teachers from addressing students with their preferred pronouns.

The march goes on …

If you like the Good News, please note that many of the stories are about Democrat governors and Democrat-led legislatures—with a couple of exceptions—which should prove one thing:

Snarky Thoughts

That old saying … everything old is new again is still old … if you’re former Grey’s Anatomy actor Katherine Heigl. I mean, it was over thirteen years ago that Heigl publicly dissed her paycheck by saying the writing on the show was low quality and she worked too much and then quit the show for a film career that went nowhere, and now she’s talking about it again.

My Thought: Heigl, set to co-star with that bastion of straight man energy, John Travolta, thinks the best way to get attention is to talk about what a spoiled brat she was on her last big gig? Sorry, hon.

photo

Now that Vin Diesel’s and Duane Johnson have kissed and made up—Johnson is set to return to the Fast and Furious franchise—Vin needs another person to blame for the bad things in life … like the reviews and box office for Fast X. Diesel is now blaming newcomer Jason Momoa‘s “overacting” on the film’s terrible reviews.

My Thought: I know the glare from your oversized melon may be clouding your vision but take a look in the mirror Vin and see what the two movies have in common and that might explain the lack of interest.

After six years of dating, and all kinds of rumors an impending wedding, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn broke up just as Swifty started her Eras Tour and quicker than you could say Damn she’s thirsty for attention, Swifty fell in love hooked up with bad boy—rumored to be a racist, homophobic drug addict—Matty Healy. Swifty even gushed from the stage one night that this was the happiest she’d ever been in her whole life.

My Thought: I hope she has a good memory and can hold onto that thought because Swifty and her happiness just broke up after a few weeks of dating.

photo

Remy Ma—she’s a rapper, I Googled her for y’all—recently celebrated her 43rd birthday but she claims she’s only thirty-five; oh, not because she’s not feeling 43 and trying to hide her age. Remy Ma is 43 but she was in jail for six years, and there were those two years of COVID restrictions and lockdowns, so she’s just thirty-five.

My Thought: I just heard of Remy Ma and she has become the biggest fool I’ve seen. I just subtracted 5 minutes from my life for posting this.

From the Height of Delusional file comes word that Kim Kardastrophe wants y’all to know she’s shy in the bedroom. Kimmy was sharing her bedroom shyness on her TV show while discussing how Cher  and her much younger boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, were seen making out at a party:

“I would just be insecure.”

And then Kimmy said she prefers to make love get banged with the lights off.

My Thought: She likes the lights off during sex unless she's filming it, like she did with Ray J, so That Woman could sell the video for a reality show career. Oh, and shy in the bedroom doesn't translate to paparazzi shots and magazine covers where Kimmy shows everything to everyone all at once.

I Didn't Say It

Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation, on the Human Rights Campaign’s declaration of a national emergency in the U.S. for LGBTQ people:

“Our country is at a very real risk of backsliding on freedom and equality but that is exactly why we continue to push. There has been extraordinary work that’s been done just in this presidency, and if you zoom out to the progress that’s been made in the last 10 or 15 years, including the ability of somebody like me to be standing here doing this job, it’s extraordinary. And yet, now you see the attacks on the LGBTQ community, especially on the trans community and what they’re going through and I think it’s being done out of the perception that it is politically convenient to target vulnerable groups. And honestly, I think where it largely comes from is folks who don’t want to talk about why they were against the infrastructure loans, building roads and bridges. They don’t want to talk about why they were against $35 insulin … they don’t want to explain why they were for these radical positions that speak to what those people are worried about their everyday lives. So they’re focused on targeting some of the people who already do not have a very easy time going about everyday life. Think about how hard it is to be a teenager to begin with. But think about how hard it is to be a teenager when you realize that you are different, when you’re coming to terms with your gender identity or you’re coming to terms with realizing that you’re gay or lesbian. The last thing you need in your life are politicians trying to score political points by making things worse for you. We’re gonna stand together, whether it’s pride or just on any given day and say no, we’re going to expand, not withdraw, the freedoms and equalities we won in this country, and we’re going to build on them.”

Pete needs to be President of this country one day soon.

It’s the plain common sense that we need.

Jennifer Coolidge, on making a “lot of mistakes” in life:

“Now that I’m old enough to really look back at my life and certainly my mistakes, I see a lot of those. But I never had any strategy. I just went job to job. I have to say I made the terrible mistake of not riding the wave that I had early on. It was sort of in the ’90s when I had ‘Legally Blonde’, “Best in Show’ and American Pie’. And then a few years later, there was ‘A Cinderella Story’ and stuff like that. But there was a moment. I started pursuing guys. I wasn’t paying attention. I just thought I had my whole life. I did get some jobs, but I didn’t have a plan. And I think that was a fatal flaw of mine, because it took so long to get anything going later.”

I think however Jennifer Coolidge got here today, to be the It Girl, er, Woman, is perfect timing. She deserves whatever comes her way.

photo

Lauren Boebert, Congressional escort loon, lying about missing the debt ceiling vote:

“No excuses, I was ticked off that they wouldn’t let me do my job, so I didn’t take the vote. Once again, Washington’s power machine shoved a multi-trillion-dollar bill down our throat, refused to allow debate or amendments, disregarded everything we fought for in January, and didn’t actually allow representatives to do their job. And instead, they served us up a crap sandwich. Call it a no-show protest, but I certainly let every one of my colleagues and the country know I was against this garbage of a bill and against bypassing the voice of each representative. Deals cut in the dark are why we are headed towards $36 trillion in debt. And I refuse to be a part of it.”

Let’s dish the lies: Boebert didn't miss the vote in protest because she was trying to get into Congress but was late—there’s video of her running up the stairs like a hooker whose John forgot to pay her, and being told the building was closed for the vote. There’s also evidence that she didn’t vote but had it added to the record that if she did vote it would have been a Nay vote.

Secondly, there was a House debate on the debt ceiling bill that lasted for nearly five hours.

Thirdly, there were 81 proposed amendments to the debt bill, 14 of which were introduced by or cosponsored by Boebert herself; I guess she’s either lying through her fake teeth or too stupid to remember what she said and did?

She’s a liar, and not a very good one; maybe if she’d graduated from high school, and not failed the GED three times before finally getting a passing score, she wouldn’t be such a fucking illiterate lying sack of gas.

Tim Scott, South Carolina’s GOP senator and candidate for the presidency … hold for laughter … on Sunny Hostin calling him the "exception" to systemic racism in America:

"One of the reasons why I’m on [The View] is because of the comments that were made frankly on this show that the only way for a young African-American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule. That’s a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today that the only way to succeed is by being the exception. The fact of the matter is we’ve had an African-American president, African-American vice president, we’ve had two African Americans to be secretaries of the state. In my home city, the police chief is an African American who’s now running for mayor. The head of the highway patrol for South Carolina is an African American. In 1975, there was about 15% unemployment in the African-American community. For the first time in the country, it’s under 5%. Progress in America is measured in generations. My grandfather [was] born in 1921 in Salley, South Carolina, when he was on a sidewalk, a White person was coming, he had to step off and not make eye contact. That man believed then, with some doubt now, in the goodness of America, because he believed that faith in God, faith in himself, and faith in what the future could hold for his kids, would unleash opportunities in ways that you cannot imagine. So, what I’m suggesting is that the yesterday’s exception is today’s rule."

Just because we had a Black President, or a Black Vice President, or police chief or whatever, doesn’t mean there isn’t systemic racism in this country. All one need do is look at the shocking numbers of Black Americans killed by police, many for minor offenses; all one need do is see the percentage of Black people in America versus the percentage of Black people in prisons.

For Tim Scott to suggest that racism, systemic racism, isn’t a problem in America because he doesn’t have to get off the sidewalk to make way for the white person is pure ignorance.

photo

Karine Jean-Pierre, on the GOP and Not-So-Sleepy Joe:

“After calling Joe Biden senile, Republicans just complained he outsmarted them [on the debt ceiling deal.] I will leave that there.”

Snap. And funny cuz it’s true. Sleepy Joe once again owned the GOP.

Bobservations

Howsabout a few quickies … this morning I walked into the kitchen and Consuelo and Rosita were eating breakfast in the same room and at the same time for the first time. I smiled, looked at them  and said:

“Morning ladies.”

I smiled, looked at Carlos and said:

“Morning lady.”

He growled back.

Last week he had a translation at the Lancaster Detention Center, so off we went. When the attorney arrived he and Carlos were buzzed inside while I waited in the lobby, and because I live for the funny, I said:

“See you in ten to twenty.”

He growled back.

Lastly, one night this week, while he was practicing his trumpet and I was reading, Rosita, for the first time, crawled into my lap and fell asleep. Carlos finished his practice, walked into the living and saw Rosita asleep and said:

“She sleeps in your lap? She goes back tomorrow.”

Then he growled and went into the kitchen.

This week’s Tuxedo Repost is from February 13, 2010

“SNOWville, Day 2 =)

I know we didn't have SNOWmageddon or a SNOWpocalypse, but this is big news for Smallville, er, SNOWville, as we usually get a one-day dusting of snow each year. Of course, everything came to a standstill; schools and businesses closed before the snow even fell, but it sure makes the town, and our house, look pretty.

Tuxedo's first experience with snow and, well, I'm not sure he likes it.”

This is my favorite picture of Tuxedo—okay, one of my favorites—because of the look on his face.

I miss that punim.

Thing 45-appointed Judge Thomas Parker of the US District Court for the Western District of Tennessee has declared that state's anti-drag Adult Entertainment Act is unconstitutional, saying:

“If Tennessee wishes to exercise its police power in restricting speech it considers obscene, it must do so within the constraints and framework of the United States Constitution.”

Let the drag resume …

I know it’s a Photoshopped image, but nevertheless it begs the question: exactly when did Jon Bon Jovi become Bea Arthur?

Out there in Salt Lake City of all places, copies of the King James Bible are being removed from school library shelves at elementary and junior high facilities in Davis County after a complaint that the scriptures feature material inappropriate—such as murder, sex, and incest—for children.

While I am no fan of banning books, what’s good for the goose …

On the LGBTQ+ friendly front, consulting firm Deloitte will donate $1 million to The Trevor Project, a LGBTQ+ mental-health nonprofit that supports youth in the community in times of crisis.

The donation will be distributed over the next two years and will fund the Trevor Project’s crisis counseling services, a web-based chat and a text-supported phone line, among other resources, and comes at a time of increased anti-LGBTQ+ legislative actions as well as right-wing pushback against acts of support for the LGBTQ+ community by corporate America.

So, Deloitte gets a huge Heyyyyy.

Elon Musk recently said Twitter’s advertising business was on the upswing but, um, yeah, liar gonna lie. It seems Twitter’s US advertising revenue from April 1 to May 1 was $88 million, or 59%, from a year ago.

Oh, I feel so bad for Elon.

So, with Thing 45, Ron DeSaster and Joe Biden all running for president let’s take a look at the messages their wives have sent with their fashion.

The always illiterate Melanie …

Casey DeSaster, whom Twitter has taken to calling either #TackieO due to her love for capes and opera gloves, or, my favorite, #WalmartMelania.

Jill Biden, with the simplest, yet most profound message.

This is Parker Gregory, fashion model and fitness expert. So, once again we ask the question: Would You Hit It?
