John McCain Is A Big Fat Liar

John McCain doesn't want gays in the military.
John McCain doesn't want gays to marry.
John McCain doesn't want gays, it then seems to follow.

So, is he doing anything and everything to shore up his opposition to the repeal--and, believe me a repeal is going to happen--of Don't Ask, Don't Tell?

Of course, he is.

Supporters of DADT have often cited a letter as evidence of military support for keeping the law on the books, and Grampa McCain even held up said letter during the Senate hearings last month. The letter contains the names of many high-ranking military officers, and yet there is some controversy surrounding the names and how they got there.

Many of those who "signed" the letter were involved in career-ending scandals; others have said the letter doesn't represent their views. And even worse, some of the names on the letter haven't served in the military under the current DADT policy; even fewer have performed military service in the last ten years.

This letter, that John McCain and others hold up as an example that the military is not ready , willing, or able, to work under a repeal of DADT, offers the signatures of men whose average age is 78; the oldest signer is nearly 100. In addition, many of those whose names still appear on the letter have died since the document was introduced, so there is doubt whether they actually signed the letter or not, or if their views have changed.

At least one signer, General Louis Menetrey, was deceased when the letter was published and didn’t even sign the document himself. According to a footnote on the letter, his wife signed the document for him after his death using power of attorney--six years after Alzheimer’s disease robbed him of the ability to communicate.

Other signers have asked to be removed from the list, though their names still appear. Some say they never agreed to sign the letter at all. And one general, who actually did sign the letter, now believes that gays should be allowed to serve in the armed forces so long as they adhere to the code of conduct.

So, this is how John McCain works. When he's against something, he's against it for life; there is no hope for change. When he said he'd change his mind if those in charge changed their minds, he wasn't being truthful. And now, he holds up a letter full of lies, with the names of dead soldiers who no longer speak for themselves; with the names of men who haven't been in the armed forces for decades.

John McCain will do anything to keep the LGBT community from being equal in the land of the free.

  2. I know you get this, but I'll repeat it at the risk of being boorish. This is how Republicans work. They lie. They'll say anything to keep people divided and fighting against each other. Why? Because when we are fearing each other and fighting with each other, we are diverted from the real threat, which is corporate America constantly reducing our power and slowly, but thoroughly addicting us to spend our money to make them profits.
The less distracted we are, the more likely we are to see them for the frauds and hypocrites they are. We see it, as a minority, but others don't. It's their main objective to make sure more don't see the light.
