This rare 1938 Moderne Streamline home is prominently anchored on a corner lot in the cherished Poppy Peak Hills area of Pasadena. Terraced living over three hillside levels, the architecture personifies the Bauhaus-infused design sensibility, not to mention leveraging Southern California's mild climate with its open floor plans and a cruise-liner inspired exterior, characterized by sweeping horizontal lines, concrete, expansive decks and tiered gardens that fan out from the 2,106 square foot home The reverse floorplan allows one to enter on the upper-most level with direct access to the living room, dining area, both with stunning hillside views, and a galley kitchen as well as a half bath. A broad outdoor deck, reminiscent of a steamliner's bow provides effortless alfresco entertaining and captivating hillside views. Downstairs the primary bedroom offers a full bath with dual vanity sinks and walk-in closet. There are two additional bedrooms, a complementary full bath with step-in shower and adjacent balcony on this middle level while the garage, laundry and storage can be found at the lower level. It’s old school style but with a updated roof, plumbing, wiring, sewer line, electrical panels, EV charger and roof-mounted owner-owned solar making it the best of both old and new. Very serene. Landscaping is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem very peaceful, doesn't it?
DeleteWith a little color, that would be stunning.
ReplyDeleteGet a can and a brush.
DeleteThis is awesome. That galley kitchen still appears wide enough to maneuver. Love the white walls because any artwork adds color. One thing missing in Pasadena: Where's the pool?
ReplyDeleteI don't think the lot is conducive to a pool; it's quite a hilly lot!
Delete🤔 I like the reverse floor plan. I like white walls and lots of windows. But, last time I lived in CA (Monterey), I got spoiled forever. If I'm living in CA, some of my windows have to have a view of the Pacific! 🏝🌊☺️
ReplyDeleteWell, Monterey. Come on ... a glorious spot. The only coastal town I like more is Mendocino!
DeleteIt's quite lovely until you hit that chartreuse (gag) bathroom! I wonder what they were thinking when they chose that puke color!
ReplyDeleteI actually like a quiry color in some rooms so this one doesn't bother me.
DeleteI like this one except for the baby poop green/yellow cabinets in the bathroom. That color should only be found in a diaper or a toilet not part of the decor.
ReplyDeleteI may have to post a picture of some of my paint choices ....
DeleteTo each their own, Bobulah. I can get thrown into a depression over some colors whereas others cheer me up (not just reds, smartass) . Emerald green, yes! Baby poop green, no! Making up for being a beige teen all those years ago. I do like this house very much.
DeleteDear goddess, not .... BEIGE!!!!!!
DeleteI'd like to see some of your paint choices.
DeleteBut the views! All that foliage is lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is a gorgeous plot of land!
DeleteI will bring some colorful paintings, when do you move in?
ReplyDeleteIf I can scrape together the coins ....
DeleteIt's almost ready to move in---A little art and color and I am set to go---I love the flow----The outdoor space is great----I love the windows and light-----Just a quick question----What view am I looking at when seated at the dinning table----I might have to fix that----Otherwise great selection-----
ReplyDeleteThe dining room looks out onto the dining terrace and to other houses on the hill.
DeleteIncredible! The views from the windows are amazing, it isn't so large that I'd get lost in it, and that deck would be where I would spend most of my time.
ReplyDeleteThough I do agree the colour in the bathroom would need to be changed, stat!
I agree, except for the color; I like some odd colors in certain spots.
DeleteThe 1938 Streamline Moderne design brings timeless Bauhaus vibes, while the recent upgradessolar panels, EV charger, and new systems make it totally livable today. A perfect blend of vintage charm and modern updates
ReplyDeleteIt is set for today's world.
Deletethe dog's mother
ReplyDeleteI agree about that bathroom!!
Nice views.
xoxo :-)
Y'all need to expand your color palettes!!!

My next move will be to a one level home as I'm getting old.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved to Camden I told Carlos we were going one level and we did.
DeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE, though Pasadena makes me immediately think of wildfires.
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is all wildfires it seems, except with climate change.
DeleteCharming. Welcoming. And a glorious surprise as you explore. What an incredible setting.
ReplyDeleteI don't need all the stairs but it is quite a lovely home.
DeleteLove streamline moderne style houses.
ReplyDeleteI would plant jasmine, honeysuckle, boxwood and roses in the backyard to enrobe the house in an intoxicating fragrance. Needs a pool to complete the Southern California lifestyle. I would furnish the house in a combination of 20’s German Bauhaus and 30’s French Art Deco. The bathroom I would have done in black and white with brushed gold hardware, the lighting fixtures shown are a fine choice.
Now if I only had the money to buy it :)

Yeah, a pool would be nice but I don't know if it would work on that lot! There is some space but digging it might be impossible and the space seems small.
DeleteLovely place.
ReplyDeleteYes it is.
DeleteThis is fab.
ReplyDeleteAnd a classic? Gimme. I love the views and the layout (that entering through the top is great). I like the idea of having a floor dedicated to something. Very serene.
Would not mind living here. Nope. Just need the dough...
XOXO
I like it very much but I think about coming home with the groceries and parking two flights down .... I'd need a couple of Maddie's houseboys thrown into the purchase!

Another very nice one I could live in, except for the bathroom that at first glance looks like a kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThat bathroom, everyone loathes the bathroom!
Deletelovely !
ReplyDeleteThis one is very nice, though the furniture isn't my ideal and I dislike those ball lights in the bathroom with the awful yellow/green cabinets, but those are easy fixes.
