Last week a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll showed that more
than two-thirds of Americans oppose these GQP attacks on the transgender
community. It’s the same old game from the Party of Fear—remember the Bathroom
Bills of a few years back—who are trying to make trans Americans the new ‘them’
to fear, and so they’ve taken their so-called fight from the bathroom to the
locker-room and the sports teams. But, what’s even more telling in this poll,
is that even Republican votes—nearly 70%—also oppose these hate attacks on
trans children. And the same poll found that a majority of Americans support
the Equality Act, that landmark civil rights legislation for the LGBTQ+
community. So, how do we explain that states all across the country, the ones
with GQP-controlled legislatures, are passing laws targeting the trans
community.
Arizona and Tennessee have passed laws that ban teachers
from mentioning LGBTQ people without parental approval.
Alabama and North Dakota have passed laws banning
transgender girls from participating in school sports.
And Florida has passed a bill banning transgender girls from
participating in school sports and requiring girls whose sex is “disputed” to
undergo inspections of their genitalia.
All five states have GQP governors, so there is a good
chance they will be signed into law.
On the upside, President Biden has already issued an
executive order stating that Title IX bans discrimination against LGBTQ+ people
in education, which means that these bills would face an uphill legal battle
even if they are signed into law.
But that doesn’t stop the hate and the ignorance. I wanna
know where these 70% of Americans are, and why they aren’t using their voices,
and their votes, to tell these GQP fearmongers that enough is enough. Just like
the Bathroom Bills were built on misinformation and fear, so are these new
bills and if We The People don’t have a problem with trans women playing on out
sports teams, in high school, in college , or professionally, then why in the
hell are the Republicans pushing this agenda?
Fear. Hate. Lies. And because they literally have nothing
else to offer. Don’t look at gun violence, they say, a trans girl is playing
soccer at the local high school. Ignore our crumbling roads and bridges, trans
girls are on the team.
That’s why. And it’s up to We The People to stop it.
Speak up. Speak out, CAST A GODDAMNED VOTE. |
I think the repugs are doing this because the T is the only letting in the LGBTQ name that they feel 'safe' attacking. Today somebody told me they didn't vote in the last elections and I almost lost my shit.
ReplyDeletePeople!!!
XOXO
When our kids were involved in
ReplyDeleteteam problem solving groups, 7
to a group, we hosted a lot of
teams here. One them turned out
to be trans, after college. Daughter
is still in touch. Good team
member, good person. :-)
Obviously something seriously wrong with the USA when these thugs can call the shots.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that the Repugnant Party give a raspberry about what their voters want....unless of course they are extremely rich and prepared to line party or individual politicians coffers.
ReplyDeleteThis is a distraction issue. The GQP could care less about LGBTQ folk... but they use us as a 'look over here' device. Always have. They know there are enough homophobes out there who care about this crap. It distracts from the bigger issues... like the minimum wage and taxing the rich. It's one of many scams the GQP continue to run and we fall for it every time. YES. Vote. Vote them out. Destroy their party. It's sick and depraved and needs to go away forever. This nonsense has to stop. We need healthcare. We need a living wage. We need infrastructure and a green plan. The GQP is standing in the way of progress... destroy them!

Dear God I've heard it all now. Florida is going to require girls whose "sex is disputed" to have their genitals examined???????
