Architecture Wednesday: Una Casa en el Empordà

This is an isolated home in Empordà along the coastal road linking Sant Feliu de Guíxols with Tossa de Mar.  You know where that is, right?

The issue with this house was how to build a home along the ocean and face the sea, but keep it protected from the icy north winds. So the home if built on 2 floors composed of three open blocks from east to west over the Mediterranean Sea which allows its occupants to watch both the sunrise and the sunset.

If you don’t want to climb down to the sea there’s a infinity pool—well, a plunge pool, really—giving the home its own small sea halfway between the living room and the kitchen.

The garden surrounding the house, built into the hillside, was designed with ground cover, aromatic & shrubby plants, as well as native trees that the architects hope will facilitate the coexistence with the environment.

It’s isolated, but with views like these do you really need a neighbor?
