Bobservations

The other morning, as I was preparing to drive Carlos to work, he came into the kitchen wearing a snappy little ensemble of blazer, bowtie, and nice slacks. He reminded me that in the afternoon I’d be driving him to Columbia where he was going to do a radio show for the Hispanic community. So, I looked him up and down in that outfit and said:
“It’s radio. You know they can’t see you, right?”
“I know that! But I’m getting my picture taken for the newspaper today.”
Now, being a sarcastic ass, and hating to have used snark only to watch it fall flat, I smiled and said:
“Make sure they use that Lucille Ball Mame lens when they take the picture.”
“What does that mean?”
“it’s the lens they used on Lucy when she did Mame and they seared Vaseline all over it to make her look about three decades younger. Ask for that lens.”
Yep, still got it.

PS Here's Lucy without the Vaseline and gauze, and then Lucy with the Vaseline and gauze.

It appears that Democratic Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado is considering a run for president.  My one question is: who the eff is Michael Bennet?
Here’s a nice story … a sacred pipe, given as a peace offering by a Dakota chief White Dog to Lieutenant King, a U.S. soldier, while the chief was being held prisoner after the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, has been returned to the tribe one-hundred-fifty years later.

The pipe, which had been owned by a Boston family since the 1880s, was put up for auction last week over the objection of the Prairie Island nation, which regarded it as a sacred object, but the auction went ahead as planned. The pipe expected to fetch $15,000 to $20,000 but sold to an anonymous bidder for nearly $40,000.

And then the anonymous bidder returned the pipe to the tribe. Just in time for Christmas.
Now, he may not want you to know this, but Mick Mulvaney, set to become the _____'s Acting Chief of Staff, is another _____ lapdog who once felt differently about the Fat Bastard; in fact, after hearing that "Access Hollywood" tape, Mulvaney:
"My guess is worse stuff is going to come out in the last 30 days. They've got more videotapes. Everything the guy's ever said is on a videotape or an audio tape. There is going to be some atrocious things that are gonna come out. [But] that’s not going to make Hillary Clinton a good candidate for president. Should either of these people be, be a role model for my 16-year-old triplets? No. In an ordinary universe, would both of these people's past activities disqualify them for serving for office? Yes.”
Cut to 2018 and Mulvaney is _____’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and soon to be acting CoS.

That’s politics in a nutshell.
More good news … this week, former and best, President Barack Obama doled out present to children at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC.

That’s my president and, well, I’m just gonna say it, it’s also my Hot Santa.
Tani Cantil-Sakauye, the chief justice of the California Supreme Court, is no longer a registered Republican because of the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and the _____ Administration’s treatment of immigrants.

Cantil-Sakauye was appointed in 2010 by then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, but is now registered as a no-party-preference voter and as she put it:
“I felt compelled to make a choice now. It better suits what I do and how I approach issues.”
Brava.
I may not know art, but I know what I like … and that painting, by out gay artist David Hockney, is expected to sell for $38 million at auction.

The portrait features Metropolitan Museum of Art curator Henry Geldzahler and his then-boyfriend, painter Christopher Scott.

If I had $38 million, I could find better uses for it. Just sayin’.
Before we get to some Hot Men …though we’ve already swooned over Hot Santa, that’s ______’s worst nightmare up there.

Three strong women—The Notorious RBG, Hillary Clinton, and Gloria Steinem—at the premiere for On The Basis of Sex, a movie about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life.

Oh, and since we talked hot men, the film also stars My-Husband-In-My-Head, Armie Hammer, as RBG’s husband Martin. And since it does, here he is …

Um .... Yum.

Three men from Nightflyers, some kind of science fiction show I recorded for Carlos because he loves that kinda stuff.

I’ll be there for the man candy … Eoin Macken, David Ajala, and Phillip Rhys.

That’s all.

Random Musings

Since 2009, the Lucille Ball Memorial Park in her hometown of Celoron, New York has been an attraction for all the wrong reasons: the statue of Lucy.

The original Lucy statue, above, was sculpted by Dave Poulin and, well, as you can see above it’s less I Love Lucy and more Night of the Living Dead Lucy. It.Was.Hideous.  And people revolted at the revolting artwork and soon an effort was made to get a new Lucy in the park.

This week, on August 6, 2016, which would have been Lucille Ball’s 105th birthday, word came that the Lucy statue was gone, having been replaced by one sculpted by Carolyn Palmer and actually looks like Miss Ball.

It was a great day in the park; people gathered music played, birds flitted about and then … What? Huh? … The old statue isn’t gone! Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost simply had the ‘new’ Lucy placed in the park and kept the old Lucy in place, too.

So, now you get two Lucy’s for the price of one; one will make you laugh and one will eat your brains.

You choose.
I haven’t been watching much Olympics, seeing bits and pieces here and there, but one day, while channel surfing I came across a Germany’s Olympic men’s field hockey team and two of its players whom I just adore.

Linus and Florian … also known as Butt & Fuchs.

I don’t know why I’m intrigued, but I am … And I am intrigued by math and so, if you take Butt and Fuchs’ numbers, 3 and 23, and multiply them you get …

See why I am intrigued?
Oh, that wacky We-Don’t-Care-About-Pedophile-Priests Catholic Church!

A 95-year-old Catholic priest in Guam recently admitted to sexually abusing boys decades ago. He said he confessed his sins to other priests but none told him to specifically stop.

Wait. So when you rape little boys you don’t stop unless someone specifically asks you to stop???

Yup; the Reverend Louis Brouillard says his fellow priests told him to “do better” and say a bunch of Hail Marry prayers.

I’m thinking “Oh hell no, Mary.”

But it’s the Catholic Church and they do have a thing for raping children and acting like it’s no big deal.

PS Brouillard cannot be prosecuted, even though he admitted to molesting 20 boys, because the statute of limitations right now for child rape is two years.
I saw this on Facebook the other day and, while it may be a simple graphic it says everything quite clearly.
Also at the Rio Olympics … Elena Delle Donne, a Team USA basketball player recently voted the Most Valuable Player in the Women’s National Basketball Association has come out as gay and is engaged to marry her longtime partner, Amanda Clifton.

Even before coming out publicly, Delle Donne voiced her support for the LGBTQ community, especially in the wake of the Orlando massacre, which prompted her to donate blood:
“The shooting in Orlando makes me sick to my stomach. Absolutely devastating. Praying for the victims and their families.”
And Delle Donne says the coming out was just a matter-of-fact thing when a reporter came to her home for an interview:
“It was just one of those articles where they came into my home, spent a couple days with me, and Amanda … [She’s] is a huge part of my life, so to leave her out wouldn’t have made any sense. It’s not a coming out article or anything. I’ve been with her for a very long time now, and people who are close to me know that, and that’s that.”
That’s all it need be …except for the gifting of the Gay Agenda and the Obligatory Coming Out Toaster Oven.

Welcome out Elena, and congratulations on your engagement.
So, I saw the new Star Trek TWICE last weekend.

Okay, I only saw it once, but then I had to recap the movie for Carlos who fell ASLEEP … TWICE … during the film.

He said not to tell anyone so if he asks, you didn't hear this from me .....
Back at the Rio Games and some Hot Men …

Team USA’s men’s gymnastics team — Chris Brooks, Alex Naddour, Jacob Dalton, Danell Leyva and Sam Mikulak — has a novel new idea to get more people to watch them compete: wear less clothing.

At least that’s what US all-around national champion Sam Mikulak suggested:
“Maybe [we can] compete with our shirts off?”

I say why stop there. In Greece the athletes were nude and why not make the games truly authentic?

I mean Dannell Leyva has already shown us it can be done ...

Just saying …

Random Musings

Some good, and some great, American Horror Story news … creator Ryan Murphy teased a couple of new items for upcoming seasons.

One: My favorite; Jessica Lange, who said she was done with the show after Freak Show, just might be returning after she finishes her run in a play on Broadway.

Two: Next season might see two AHS stories, one in fall and one in spring.

Double the horror and Lange coming back? Oh.Yeah.

In other great horror TV show news … the great Patti LuPone has joined the Showtime fright-fest, Penny Dreadful, full-time.

I.Love.La.LuPone. Just don’t bring a cell phone around her.

Having Mama Grizzly Bore™ interview Donald [t]Rump for the conservative One America News network — all five of its outlets — is akin to sending a first grader to interview Obama about the Iran deal … except the first grader would have had better questions.

In Hot Men news, we’ve begun watching Public Morals on USA, which is about the Vice Squad units in New York City in the 1960s.

Oh, and Hot Men, too, like Neal McDonough, who plays killer Rusty Patton. Dreamy-eyed murderer … yeah, I can forgive the murderer part, I guess,

Austin Stowell plays Sean O’Bannon, the typical Hot Cop with a Heart of Gold, while Aaron Dean Eisenberg is another cop who could cuff me.

Just sayin’.

Kanye West was awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs last weekend and threatened us with running for president in 2020.

Ladies and gentlemen, your First Lady, and former porn star, Kim Kardastrophe-West.

Obama has renamed Mt. McKinley Mt. Denali?

Um, no, he just changed the name back, m’kay?

And Denali isn’t some Kenyan word, nor is it an insult to McKinley—who is from Ohio and never once set foot in Alaska. M’kay?

So, it was same-sex couple David Moore and David Ermold who gave us Kentucky Kounty Klerk — thanks to Beth at Nutwood Junction for that — Kim Davis when they applied for a marriage license and she refused.

And so they went back and back, armed with a video camera and each time they were denied because Kim says God blah blah blah.

This week, even after being ordered by the courts to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Kim again refused to grant David Moore and David Ermold one, saying:
"I’m willing to face my consequences as you all will face your consequences when it comes time for judgment."
Your consequences is that you will be a four-time married, three-timed divorced adulterer looking for a job, while Moore and Ermold were get married — having been together twenty-seven years — and being happy.

That works for me.

UPDATE: Kim has been jailed for contempt ... cuz she's contemptible.

Anthony Horowitz, the author of a new James Bond novel, announced this week that actor Idris Elba was not right for the part of James Bond if and when Daniel Craig leaves the role. Horowitz said, ahem:
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Too street? WTF does that even mean? And, remember, folks said Craig was too rough to be Bond, too; and too short. And when people went nuts at Horowitz’s lunacy, he quickly apologized:
“I was asked in my interview if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article I expressed the opinion that to my mind Adrian Lester would be a better choice but I’m a writer not a casting director so what do I know? Clumsily, I chose the word ‘street’ as Elba’s gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther was in my mind but I admit it was a poor choice of word. I am mortified to have caused offence.”
Idris took the high road in the kerfuffle, though with a hint of snark when he posted this to Instagram:
“Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!!”
Hot.Suave.Funny.Hot. He is Bond.

Josh Duggar boarded a private plane last week and flew to Illinois where he ALLEGEDLY entered rehab for being, I forget, child molester, adulterer, porn addict, religious wingnut, or hypocrite.

The faith-based rehab — called Reformers Unanimous — is a hyper-Christian rehab that involves lots of Bible study and manual labor and absolutely NO therapy.

Oh, and Josh isn’t even there? Josh has not shown up to one single mandatory meeting or church service, so it appears that Josh is once again the “biggest hypocrite ever.”

And even his sister-in-law, has taken to Facebook to basically call him out for being a pedophile and an adulterer. And ruining the family's attempts to make money off being holier than thou without ever actually working a single day in their lives.

Yeah, Josh is the problem.

I love Cate Blanchett.

I love Lucy.

But Cate as Lucy in an upcoming film? I’m wondering about that.

They Do Love Lucy ... Just Not Like This

Lucy … Lucille Ball to those who don’t know that Lucy means Lucy … was born in the small town of Celoron, New York, just outside Jamestown, and, as happens with celebrities, the town wanted to honor Ball with a life-sized statue.

Now, however, they want it taken down because, well, the artist has some ‘splaining to do.
It seems that many townspeople, while loving Lucy, think the statue is an unflattering depiction of Lucille Ball, and one big Lucy fan wants it replaced by a statue more suited to the comedy legend.
“Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty. Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful. This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that... the statue should go.” — Lucy Fan
The Jamestown man chooses to remain anonymous, but has started a Facebook page We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue.
“I don’t think this can be repaired. Take a look at the beautiful statues Nick at Nite created for ‘Bewitched’ and ‘The Honeymooners’ and Bob Newhart… it needs to be something more like those. I think it looks like a monster. That is just my opinion. When you see it at night, it is frightening.” — Lucy Fan
The fan isn’t trying to knock Dave Poulin, the artist, by any means, and says that Poulin’s other work is quite good; Lucy, sadly, is not. Poulin is not commenting at all.
Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost says it would cost between $8,000 and $10,000 to have the original artist recast the statue, which was unveiled in 2009, and he says he has no interest in using taxpayer dollars to fix it.

A fund, however, has been sat up to raise the cash.

So, that’s the statue down there … what do you think? Funny Lucy? Scary Lucy?

Oh ... and here's a Lucy statue in Palm Springs. Better?
