Why Is It ...

… that even though I can tell who is real and who is fake, I love watching a fake person’s acting skills.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong When Gun Nuts Hold A Fake Mass Shooting?

I don’t like guns; I don’t own a gun. I cannot think of a situation in my life that would make me buy a gun.

I have, however, once in my life, shot a gun; when I was a wee lad, we were visiting friends and went skeet shooting. I didn’t much care for it and haven’t picked up a gun since then, but …

If people choose to own a gun because they feel they need it for protection, I say that’s their right. If people own a gun because they like to hunt, I say that’s their right. But why, why, does anyone need an assault weapon? A machine gun? Any weapon that fires dozens and dozens of round per minute and was created solely for the purposes of killing someone?

That I don’t understand. And I don’t understand this either: gun rights groups are converging on the University of Texas campus to hold a “mock” mass shooting.

Yup; mock. Fake. Not real. Just for fun let’s pretend that someone went crazy and opened fire on a college campus; for kicks. What a great way to spend an afternoon: murder and mayhem.

And the reason given for this asinine display — mass shootings are fun, y’all—comes from one Matthew Short, spokesman for the gun rights groups Come and Take It Texas:

“We love freedom and we’re trying to make more freedom.”

More freedom; with guns.

Apparently Short and his ilk haven’t read the statistics that say that Americans have suffered more mass shootings this year than days have passed this year. But that’s not enough for gun-nuts; they need a mass shooting simulation because nothing says freedom like bloodshed.

Billed as a “crisis performance event”, the fake mass shooting will include an entire array of simulated effects, including guns, gunfire, blood, victims, and “good guys” with guns, and will be preceded by gun nuts walking though the city of Austin with loaded weapons.

Naturally, when asked if these events were in bad taste, Short said:

“Not at all. People were able to be murdered because no one was armed.”

Yes, he believes that the way to fight violence is with more violence; just like the way to stop the kid on the playground from throwing rocks at other kids is to give all the kids rocks.

And let’s not take too much time thinking about a lunatic who might think that a staged mass shooting is the perfect place to start shooting; or the lunatic who looks at this madness as a classroom, a how-to, on mass murder.

And if that happens, if just one person is shot at this event, or someone uses this event as a jump off for their own act of violence, then maybe people like Matthew Short should be held accountable.

Guns kill people; people with guns kill people. Giving more people more guns is not the solution.

ISBL Asshat[s] of the Week: The NRCC

This makes no sense to me. I mean, when you have Fox News and its minions of ALLEGED “reporters” and talking heads at your beck-and-call, why create a fake news site?

But, apparently, the National Republican Congressional Committee [NRCC] which just last year created a series of fake Democratic candidate websites — sites that were taken down when it was revealed they were nothing but lies and fakes created by the NRCC — has now launched another set of phony websites, this time designed to look like local news sources.

The NRCC has created over twenty fake news sites that they use to challenge Democratic candidates for office and is using Google to promote the sites. These one-page websites look like a local news site, with logos like "North County Update" or "Central Valley Update"  and the “articles” look like an impartial news story about a Democratic candidate.

And, if you think you’re reading an impartial news source about a candidate for office in your area, you suddenly find the “news” site bashing the Democratic candidate. And it you read all the way through to the bottom you find the itty-bitty disclaimer that the NRCC paid for the site.

Just as the NRCC did last year with the fake Democratic candidate sites, they promote these “news” websites through Google search ads. For example, if a voter in Democratic Representative John Barrow's Georgia district searches his name on Google, the first ad that appears leads to a faux news site called ElectionUpdate2014, that bears the tag-line: "Find Out More About John Barrow. We'll Provide The Facts: You Decide."

When you click that link you find yourself at a page called "Augusta Update" — Augusta is a city in Barrow's district — and the article begins, "Today, we're reviewing Barrow's record to see if his campaign rhetoric matches his record."

All well and good if it was an impartial news site, but it’s created and funded and run by the NRCC and ends with the line: "That kind of record doesn't sound like someone who puts Georgia first. It sounds like someone who has put President Obama ahead of his constituents."

Andrea Bozek, communications director for the NRCC, and apparent asshat extraordinaire, says: "This is a new and effective way to disseminate information to voters who are interested in learning the truth about these Democratic candidates."

Except the site is a lie; it’s not news, it’s a political ad, and a lie, disguised as news and created by the GOP's campaign arm. It says a lot about the GOP that they feel the need to resort to these kinds of tactics in order to “get the word out.” I mean, I guess the truth takes too much time? Or maybe the truth doesn’t fit within the GOP.

Sadly, the sites appear to be within legal limits, even though the NRCC's disclaimer box at the very bottom of the faux-news sites does not include the URL of the committee, which is a requirement.

Josh Schwerin, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee [DCCC] says this about the fake sites: "[The] House Republicans' campaign strategy to overcome their own historic unpopularity is to resort to deception — again."

Andrea Bozek’s response: "They're just jealous, that they didn't think of this strategy first."

Only the GOP and the NRCC and people like Andréa Bozek can call a lie, a deception, a fake news site, “strategy.

Wow! I NEVER Saw This Coming

I don't follow The Bachelor/Bachelorette shows, unless you can call being subjected to the constant media blitz watching. See, I've always been a skeptic that someone, anyone, can find true love by TV-dating twenty-six people, and whittling it down over the course of twelve or fourteen weeks until you are left with two people you absolutely love, and then you pick one and crush the other,.

I never thought it would work. And it never really has. Except for that one girl and whats-his-name......So, is there any surprise that recent Bachelor, Jake Pavelka, who pinged my gaydar like many of the other "bachelors" and his TV fiancee, Vienna Girardi, have called it quits.

Nope.

But what is surprising is the mud being flung.

She calls him a media whore who left her home alone while he went on photo shoots and interviews, and did that other show I don't watch, Dancing With Media Whores.

He, on the other hand, doesn't call her a media whore, he simply goes for whore. He is now accusing his former fiancee of cheating on him with Gregory Michael, an actor on the ABC Family show "Greek."

Vienna, not a media whore at all, Tweeted, because the entire world needs to know her business, that she isn't a cheater. But, um, Vienna, why don't you just shut your yap; you had your fifteen minutes, and it's over. Go back to being the town slut, or whatever it was that brought you to the attention of ABC and The Bachelor.

Get a life.

And, while she's doing it, you do it, too, Jake. What makes anyone with half a brain think that they can be thrown into a room with twenty-six-or-so strangers, and then date them all, and toss some aside, and be intimate with four or five, and then truly think they've fallen in love by the end of the season.

It's all manufactured.

It's all sick.

It's all fake.
