Bobservations

The other night after dinner I was doing the cleanup—around these parts thems that cooks don’t clean, and thems that eats does the cleaning—and I found all kinds of vegetable detritus on the island; bits of tomato and pepper, onion and garlic, and a few seeds of some sort.

After getting dishes in the dishwasher and scrubbing a skillet I turned my attention to the island and wiped away the scraps just in time for Carlos to enter, screaming:

“Where are the seeds??”

“What?”

“The seeds. The seeds.”

What seeds?

“I set aside some lemon seeds to plant in the backyard.”

“Sweetie, all I saw was food scraps and I trashed all of it.”

“I wanted to plant the lemon seeds to grow a tree.”

“Look, Jack, we don’t need no stinking beanstalk! Or any new trees. We’ve already got about a hundred trees or more and we don’t need another one.”

“But I wanted to grow lemons.”

“Did you forget about the time you wanted to grow grapefruit?”

“Never mind.”

I made peace by suggesting he get a  mini-lemon tree he can grow in the sunroom and not he’s like a cat with a new toy.

This ode to cats is from April 2011 and is entitled: “Caturday: The Naptime Edition”:

Cats love to nap. Eat and then nap. Stretch and then nap. Use the litter box and then nap. Nap and then, you guessed it, nap. And they all do it pretty much the same way: curled up in a tight little ball. All except The Most handsome Cat Ever, Tuxedo, who marches, er, naps, to his own drummer.

Top Row: Tallulah Belle. On a dining room chair??!!??? And MaxGoldberg. On a cat bed, like a good boy.

Bottom Row: Miss Consuelo Roca Jones. As the newbie, she hasn't graduated to 'cat bed' yet. And last but never least, Tuxedo. Like Sinatra, he does it his way.

Here’s the whisk I mentioned last week. Ours has a handle like the left one but the whisk shape is more like the right one.

And just  in case anyone is wondering, we’ll be serving the cakes upstairs after dinner.

When you’re a former film star and really don’t have a career any longer, what do you do? Why, you run to the nearest podcast and talk about a movie you made 33 years ago.

Yes, Billy Baldwin—that’s him up there—whose career is going gangbusters … I kid … telling folks he will “never, ever work with” Sharon Stone again after they starred in “Sliver” in 1993. It seems she didn’t care for him at the time so Baldwin told producers he wouldn’t film love scenes with Stone. He finally gave in but with a caveat:

“I can do the scene but just please don’t make me kiss her. … I can’t kiss her.”

He’s held on to that story for 33 years until he figured he could use some press. Stone, for her part, when asked to comment, said:

“Who’s Billy Baldwin?”

Well, I imagine she said that.

These viral "hoof shoes" featured on the Neiman Marcus website are the Givenchy Leather Fringe Sandals, which cost $2,350.

No joke.

  1. OMG now I want a tiny lemon tree!
    And Magnus’ got cakes too!
Melanoma and Usha got no morals, so there’s that.

The Baldwins were so hot. Where did that go?
    Love Sharon Stone.
    XOXO

    1. Plus a tiny lemon tree would smell nice in the sunroom!
I know! Billy Baldwin used to be so hot and now he looks like Dana Carvey in a Wayne's World sketch!

  2. I would be afraid that the winters there would be too cold for a lemon tree outside, they are very sensitive, like Carlos. They can be a good indoor plant.

    1. The grapefruit tree thrived for a few years, though no fruit, and then it was gone. I think a small one in the sunroom would be nice.

  3. Just wanted you to know I have a lemon tree I grew from a seed. You evidently have the wrong type of whisk. I think someone must have dropped the Baldwin brothers on their heads when they were babies. And it's a yes for Magnus.

    1. I'd never used that whisk and we got rid of it because we have two others.

  5. Givenchy should make leather cloven hoof shoes for Trumpenfuhrer to wear -- those cankles need room!

    1. Size extra large because the feet are swelling, too!

  6. Givenchy have clearly run out of good ideas and are now reduced to using appallingly bad ideas in an attempt to make money. Anyone who buys rubbish like that must be even more desperate.

    1. They're for people who are slaves to fashion and yet have no actual fashion, or good, sense.

  7. Is Billy Baldwin related to Alec Baldwin? Those "hoof" shoes are the worst thing I've seen all week. A mini lemon tree will produce fruit faster than growing one from seed.

  8. The kitchen clean-up rule is sacred—if it looks like compost, into the bin it goes! Carlos getting a potted sunroom mini-lemon is the ultimate peacekeeping treaty.

Loved the flashback to the cats (Tuxedo knows how to own a room), and your Sharon Stone zinger made me spit my morning drink. As for those $2,350 Givenchy hoof abominations... only if they allow me to trot straight past runway models like Magnus without making eye contact.

    1. I might like sunroom lemons!
Tuxedo marched to his own drummer, that's a definite!
Those shoes. I mean, who? And why? And where?

  9. Poor Carlos. I've always wanted a miniature tangerine tree or orange. Alas, it never came to pass.
April 2011, the same month and year I entered menopause. I think I spent it the same way as the cats.
Those whisks would make painful sex toys. I wouldn't know from experience, though.
Two full tanks of gas for my car ugly shoes? Hmmm, gas it is.
Magnus has the worst case of dandruff I've ever seen!
That last one! It seems that irony has gone the way of the do-do bird.

    1. We'll see if he gets one.
Did you like twisted and torqued like Tuxedo, or into a ball like the other gatos?
I still don't know what that whisk was for ...
I'd take gas over the shoes any day, unless they were racehorse hooves?

  10. Poor Carlos! All he wanted to do was to grow a lemon tree but he was thwarted by a belligerent clean up guy from Acme Domestic Services Inc.. Honestly, where do they get these people from?
