Chick-fil-A Is Still Chick-fil-Hate

They say a leopard can’t change its spots, and I say bigot’s can ... rarely if ever ... change their hate.

Case in point: Chick-fil-A.

It’s been five years since Chick-fil-A chairman and CEO Dan Cathy admitted that he, and his company, was “guilty as charged” of opposing same-sex marriage. And it’s been five years since that little comment brought to light all the monies that Cathy had donated to anti-LGBT causes around the country because he hates The Gays.

But, five years back, Dan Cathy, feeling the burn of a chicken boycott, vowed to keep his mouth shut and his wallet closed to these hate-filled groups and announced that Chick-fil-A would “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender” though the company didn’t add any LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination policies to its stores.

And now it turns out that Cathy’s about face was just a giant Hobby-Lobby-sized lie ...

While the company’s non-profit arms scaled back support for some of the anti-LGBT groups, Chick-fil-A Foundation’s recent IRS filings show that Dan Cathy, and Chick-fil-A,  gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-LGBTQ organizations in 2015.

Worst of all, perhaps, is that on Chick-fil-A’s website it claims the foundation “is focused on helping every child become all they were created to be” a great deal of its donations went to groups that do not believe this includes LGBTQ youth.

For example, in 2015 the Chick-fil-A Foundation gave more than $1 million to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a religious organization which seeks to utilize athletes and coaches to spread Christian teachings, along with anti-LGBTQ messages. Staff and volunteers with Christian Athletes must follow a strict “sexual purity” policy that prohibits “homosexual acts” even for married, same-sex couples.

Huh?

Chick-fil-A also gave $200,000 to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, a Georgia-based “transformative organization” that operates a “Christian residential home for troubled youth.” This “home” focuses on boys, and believes that the “sexual, physical, and mental abuse of children, mostly in the alleged ‘safety’ of their own homes has produced all kinds of evil throughout the culture to include the explosion of homosexuality in the last century.”

Yes, they donate to a group that believes boys are turned gay by some form of abuse.

In addition, the Chick-fil-A Foundation donated $130,000 to the Salvation Army which has a long history of anti-LGBTQ housing discrimination, opposition to same-sex marriage equality, and supporting exemptions from non-discrimination ordinances.

With its continued foundation giving to those who preach anti-LGBTQ values — at least $1.4 million in 2015 alone — it does not appear that Cathy and Chick-fil-A have kept their promise.

Good Christians, eh?

I imagine God is looking at Cathy, and rereading his lies and promises, and She is getting angry.

I Didn't Say It ...

Judy Shepard, on the death of Westboro Baptist Church leader Fred Phelps:

"Regarding the passing of Fred Phelps, Dennis and I know how solemn these moments are for anyone who loses a loved one. Out of respect for all people and our desire to erase hate, we’ve decided not to comment further."

That's one classy lady.

And she said exactly what I was thinking; erase hate.

Brenda Haynes, the Sheridan School District Superintendent, once more commenting on the Taylor Ellis story — see my post HERE:

“We must make decisions that lead in the proper direction for all of our students and for our community. We must not make decisions based on demands by any special interest group. The seven profiles will not be published in the yearbook ... It is clear that the adults who have the responsibility for the operation of the district have the obligation to make decisions which are consistent with the mission of our school. We have done so."

I guess the “proper direction” is not gay.

I guess there was no “special interest group” that demanded the gay profile be excised from  the yearbook.

The “adults” make the decision that no one, no one, should read a coming out story.

Dan Cathy, Chick-Fil-A CEO, on how he regrets inserting his company into the marriage equality battle:

"Every leader goes through different phases of maturity, growth and development and it helps by (recognizing) the mistakes that you make. And you learn from those mistakes. If not, you’re just a fool. I’m thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it. Probably the elements that were stressful for me most is from our internal staff and from operators and how this may be affecting them. The bottom line is we have a responsibility here to keep the whole of the organization in mind and it has to take precedence over the personal expression and opinion on social issues."

How sweet. But let’s be queer, Dan Cathy is a bigot and homophobe who uses his religious beliefs—not the “judge not lest ye be judged” part, or the “God is love” part—to deny same-sex couples the legal right to marry.

He can stop giving his money to anti-LGBT groups but he’s still a bigot, and the chicken still tastes like hate.

Ben Carson, Teabagistan hero, on political correctness:

"We are very much like Nazi Germany. And I know you’re not supposed to say ‘Nazi Germany,’ but I don’t care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe. And it’s because of the PC police, it’s because of politicians, it’s because of news. All of these things are combining to stifle people’s conversation. The reason that is so horrible is because the only way you have harmony and reach a consensus is by talking. But if, in fact, people are afraid to talk, you never reach consensus. I find it funny that Carson doesn’t see that if this were, in fact, some kind of Nazi Germany state, he wouldn’t be able to say what he just said about the government without repercussions.

Lance Bass, on his love for the state of Mississippi, and changing hearts and minds in a new video for Southerners for Freedom to Marry:

"When we [Bass and fiance Michael Turchin] go out as a gay couple here in Mississippi. You don't feel what everyone says is going on down here in the South. People accept it so much better and they just see 'oh, that's cool. we like them together. They're really sweet.' We feel the love coming from them anyway, and the support. We just have to show them what being gay is. And that's being completely normal, and nothing different from that straight marriage over there."

Well, I kind of agree, though people in the South will most likely, if they disagree with you or your “homosexual lifestyle” smile at your face, then work against you once your back is turned.

The tide is changing, even here  in the South, but, again, let’s be queer, we’ve got a long way to go.

Chick-fil-A-Hole Made A Funny Out Of A Gay Slur!

Okay, so I'm gonna rant about Chick-fil-A-hole again.

As I've said, they are a loathsome company that takes your money, for their fried pieces of bird flesh, and gives it anti-LGBT groups that work overtime to deny gay men and women equality. Any equality. All equality.

That said, Dan Cathy and his special brand of deep-fried hatred have the right to do what he chooses with his money, and he has the right to spout his personal beliefs of in tolerance and bigotry masked as Bible-thumping love for all things Christian.

See, if I can rag on the Dan Cathys of the world, they can rag on me, too. So, I don't have a problem with what Chick-fil-A-hole does with their money, I would just ask that anyone and everyone who disagrees with Cathy simply stop eating at Chick-fil-A-hole. Now, of course, many won't because they ask for extra sauce to cover the taste of homophobia, but can you forgive this:

Now, fruitcake can be one of those awful dried fruit and nut cakes that people give out at Christmas, but that definition makes no sense. Fruitcake can also mean an eccentric and crazy person, and, well, that kinda works. But, fruitcake is also a derogatory term that homophobes use to describe gay men.

Dingdingding. We have a winner.

Chick-fil-A-hole is owned by a homophobic bigot, so the gay slur in the ad makes perfect sense, no? Not so fast says Steve Robinson, the company's executive vice president and chief marketing officer: 

"This is an advertisement that a locally owned and operated restaurant has been using for the past five years to promote Chick-fil-A's catering options during the holidays. It was simply a play on words referring to the traditional holiday food, and the restaurant had no intention of offending anyone whatsoever. We regret the flyer may haven been taken out of context."

And there you have it. Straight from an A-hole's mouth. Robinson is actually asking you to believe that they are simply saying that only a "dried-fruit-and-nut cake" wouldn't like their party platters! Doesn't that make all the sense in the world? It's just a play on a seasonal dessert!

Except it doesn't make sense. What makes sense it that, whoever came up with the idea, meant it as a gay slur, and tried to play if off as though it isn't. And anyone, anyone, who doesn't know that "fruitcake" is a gay slur is lying, delusional, or stupid.

If any other company had used this term, like say McD's or Burger King, I don't think people would have noticed. But when the company that funds anti-LGBT causes with their profits uses it, they meant it.

Seriously.

Let me make this perfectly queer: Stop.Eating.There.

I Didn't Say It ....

Dan Savage, on Tony Perkins and the FRC and LGBT suicides:

"Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council—First of all, they tell, Tony Perkins tells parents whose kids come out to reject them. Tony Perkins tells the parents of queer kids to do what Tony Perkins damn well knows drives those kids to suicide—doubles their already quadruple rate of suicide. Why would someone who calls themselves a Christian do that? Because every dead gay kid is a victory for the Family Research Council. They argue that the gay lifestyle is sick and sinful and dangerous and they point to the suicide rate, and then they turn around and do everything in their power to make sure that suicide rate does not come down and to drive it up. Tony Perkins sits on a pile of dead gay kids every day when he goes to work—and he calls himself a Christian. I don’t understand how real Christians let that little fucker get away with that."

As usual, Dan doesn’t mince words, and as usual, he’s right.

I don’t care if you think being gay is wrong, or being gay is a sin, or being gay is a One Way Direct Flight to Hell, but when you keep saying that, all the while praising yourself as a good Christian, and you watch young LGBT youth kill themselves rather than live in a world of hate, you are not of God.

You are disgusting. You are to blame.

Harry Jackson, “Bishop,” who says he prayed a newspaper into bankruptcy:

"One night I walked past one of those newsstands. As I was walking past it, I looked at that newsstand and they had some article about same-sex marriage and all that blasphemous stuff. And I laid hands on that newsstand and I said, 'In the name of Jesus, I CURSE THIS PAPER!' Less than two months, that paper went bankrupt. It was part of a six-newspaper chain! It went bankrupt! It went out of business! IT WENT UNDER! It did!"

It appears that Harry was taking about the Washington Blade, which did file for bankruptcy, but then resurrected itself and remains in business three years after Jackson's failed "curse." 

But, this begs a bigger question, if Harry Jackson’s prayers are answered why are gay folks still here? Why are they still getting married in DC?

Why is Obama still president?

Ann Romney, putting another nail in Mittsy’s chances of being elected:

"You know, I think my biggest concern, obviously, would just be for his mental well-being....I have all the confidence in the world in his ability, in his decisiveness and his leadership skills, in his understanding of the economy, in his understanding of what's missing right now in the economy - you know, pieces that are missing to get this jumpstarted. So for me I think it would just be the emotional part of it."

Seriously? Is she saying he can do the job, that he has the skills necessary to do the job, that he’s the best man for the job, but he’s just not emotionally prepared to do it?

Wow. For once I agree with Ann; her husband is not now, nor ever will be, emotionally equipped to lead this country.

Maggie Gallagher, on marriage equality:

"If marriage really were dead, people would not respond so powerfully to the idea that marriage matters because children need their mom and dad. If you despair, I respect that, but why try to get others who have hope to despair? Do the things for which you have hope. But you may be wrong about the future. Do not discourage others who have hope from acting on it.  Our 'traditional' view of marriage was won by the Church over several hundred years of argument with pagan philosophers. What we did once, we can do again."

No, Maggie, you can’t do it again, because we no longer live in the Dark Ages where your kind of fear mongering pays off.

You’re on the wrong side, Maggie, so best for you just to sit down and be quiet.

Matt Barnes, Los Angeles Clipper forward, apologizing for using a gay slur [f**king faggot] against a police officer who arrested him last year:

"I would like to apologize for the unfortunate language I used.  I know that certain words are extremely hurtful. I meant absolutely no disrespect to anyone.  This comment, spoken in the heat of a difficult moment, does not accurately reflect my actual point of view."

Um, Matt, asshat? If you know certain words are hurtful, then why do you use them? And you did disrespect a group of people, and, well, if the words fall from your lips in the heat of the moment that means the words are always in your head.

You meant it; you’re just trying to save face for getting caught.

Try this apology, next time, and I’m sure there will be a next time: “I’m sorry to be such a dick. I am going to work to erase that word from my brain. I will never, ever, say that word again. I’m sorry, I’m a dick.”

Madeleine Albright, on Mitt Romney:

Rachel Maddow, on the 2007 Jeremiah Wright tape that was dragged out by right-wing as an attempt to paint Obama as some kind of race-baiter:

"See this is supposed to make you think that in this tape from before he was President Barack Obama he's revealing his secret plan to be way more Black than he seems to you now. This is how he snuck into the White House. People actually didn't know he was this Black and if they had known he was this Black they never would have elected him. That's the idea here, right? The efforts to make President Obama's race sound like new news and to make it seem shocking are now ramping up aggressively."

It’s the GOP rightwingnut, Teabaggin’ answer to Mittsy’s secret tapes where he tells all of us that he doesn’t care about half of us.

Dan Cathy, of Chick-fil-A-hole, still hating The Gays:

"Families are very important to our country. And they're very important to those of us who are concerned about being able to hang on to our heritage. We support Biblical families, and they've always been a part of that."

Um, Dan, you dipshit? Gay families exist. Gay parents exist. Children of gay parents exist. And for you to somehow say that we don’t matter, that those of us who are gay and choose to be Christian, somehow don’t matter, is oh-so-very Christ-like.

Seriously, when Jesus comes back, his first stop will be at Burger King.

Paul Ryan, on what a Romney presidency will do about marriage equality:

Ryan when asked his thoughts about marriage:

"First of all, Mitt Romney and I—I’ll just say it, it’s worth repeating—we believe marriage is between one man and one woman, that’s number one. Number two, you know where I come from we had one of those amendments in Wisconsin, I was a big supporter of it and we passed it like you say, where it’s put on the ballot it passes. The second point is, President Obama gave up defending the Defense of Marriage Act in the courts, I mean, not only is this decision to abandon this law the wrong decision, it passed in a bipartisan manner, it is very troubling because it undermines not only traditional marriage but it contradicts our system of government. It’s not the president’s job to pick and choose which laws he likes. A Romney administration will protect traditional marriage and the rule of law and we will provide the Defense of Marriage Act the proper defense in the courts that it deserves."

There you have it, straight from the horse's ass: if you are gay, have a gay relative, friend, or neighbor, and vote Romney/Ryan, you are voting for discrimination to be written into the US Constitution.
Discrimination is not an American value, no matter how many times Hound Dog Eyes tries to spin it.

I Hate To Say I Told You So, But .....

Lats week the blogs were all a'twitter and the Twitter was all a'blogger because word had come down that Chick-fil-A-hole had "promised"  a Chicago alderman, Joe Moreno, that it would no longer donate money to groups fighting to block same-sex marriage.

There was hootin' and hollerin' and lots of yippees. But I was a bit reluctant because to me, if the message didn't come from the head bigot of the Hate Chicken, then I didn't trust it 100%. And now it's turned out that, while it might be "technically" true, there is this giant anti-LGBT loophole in the company's still-unconfirmed new policy that will allow them to continue to work against the LGBT community.

See, although the company's charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation, might not be donating directly to anti-LGBT, and anti-marriage equality, Chick-fil-A-hole President Dan Cathy is still a major player on the bigot circuit. 

In fact, Cathy Tweeted a photo last week from the 2012 WinShape Ride for the Family. That ride is a fundraiser for an organization that helps lobby against marriage equality, and the registration forms that WinShape used asked that donations be sent, not to them because they want the appearance of clean hands, but sent directly to the Marriage and Family Foundation. at an address that group conveniently shares with, wait for it, Chick-fil-A-hole's headquarters. 
The donations forms quote the ride "fee" as $3,500 per individual or couple, but there are sponsorship packages for "Silver" at $5,000, "Gold" at $10,000 and "Platinum" at $15,000. And Chick-fil-A-hole's logo accompanies everything, as does the WinShape name.

In other words, they're still anti-LGBT but they're trying to hide it.

Kind of. See, because also late last week, Chick-fil-A-hole's COO, and Head Bigot, Dan Cathy, talked with Mike Huckabee, Fox News host and twice-failed presidential candidate, who was the organizer of that  "Chick-fil-A-hole Appreciation Day", and assured Mikey that the Hate Chicken is still the Hate Chicken, no matter what any alderman in Chicago said.
Cathy posted a statement on Huckabee's website--and not on Chick-fil-A-hole's interestingly enough, that read:

"There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been."

Anti-gay. That's who they are and you heard it straight from the homophobic horse's ass.
But, let's not start with kiss-ins and protests again. Let's just stop eating there and ask our friends and allies to stop eating there. If Dan Cathy wants to hurt the LGBT community, and marriage equality efforts, by giving cash to hate groups, then don't give Dan Cathy any cash.

Chick-fil-A-hole is a hate group, they just mask it with fried chicken.

Will The Haters Ever Learn?

Poor Chick-Fil-Antigay.

See, once you admit to donating your customer’s money to homophobia and bigotry and intolerance, well, people start to think maybe you aren’t so nice.

Go figure.

The fast food company's perception with fast food eaters nationwide has taken a significant hit in most regions of the US, including the South where most of its restaurants are located, since president and COO Dan Cathy made his ‘we like everybody but we don’t want equality for The Gays’ remarks a couple of weeks ago.

Now, in the Midwest, sadly, right after Cathy spoke, Chick-Fil-Antigay's perception jumped up for a week, though it has since returned to where it was before the bigot spoke. But, as the controversy grows, and mayors of major cities, like Boston and Chicago, and politicians, like Nancy Pelosi, speak out about the company, Chick-fil-Antigay’s overall consumer brand health with fast food eaters has dropped to its lowest levels since mid-August 2010. And it also marks the first time Chick-Fil-Antigay has sunk below the fast food consumer perception average of the top QSR restaurant chains.

Let’s review: on July 16^th the day the Baptist Press published its Dan Cathy interview, Chick-Fil-Antigay's Index score was 65—about 19 points above the average score that day of 46. But, just four days later, Chick-Fil-Antigay had fallen to 47 score, three points below the average score that day of 50. Last week, Chick-Fil-Antigay had a 39 score compared to the average score of 43.

Just goes to show you that homophobia, while it is covered under Free Speech, isn’t really good business.

Too bad Dan Cathy didn’t know that before he opened his yap.

I Didn't Say It ....

Martin Cizmar, the arts and culture editor of Portland Oregon's Willamette Week, on returning his Eagle Scout badge to the Boy Scouts in protest of the group's anti-gay policies:

"I am not gay. However, I cannot in good conscious hold this badge as long as the BSA continues a policy of bigotry. Though I didn't know at the time, I was acquainted with a number of gay scouts and scouters. They were all great men, loyal to the scout oath and motto and helpful to the movement. There is no fair reason they should not be allowed to participate in scouting."

Nice when more and more straight people step up as allies against LGBT discrimination.

Frank Bruni, NYT columnist, on Michelle Bachmann’s hate:

“Does it encourage gratuitously divisive condemnations of Barack Obama as ‘anti-American,’ one of many incendiary phrases in her attacks against him in 2008? And does it compel a war against homosexuality waged with the language and illogic she uses? She has said that gay men and lesbians are dysfunctional products of abuse and agents of ‘sexual anarchy,’ and when the singer and songwriter Melissa Etheridge was battling breast cancer years ago, Bachmann helpfully chimed in: ‘This may be an opportunity for her now to be open to some spiritual things, now that she is suffering with that physical disease. She is a lesbian.’ Bachmann’s concept of Christian love brims with hate, and she has a deep satchel of stones to throw. From what kind of messiah did she learn that?”

Bachmann is the queen of masking her hate of LGBT people in a cloak of Christianity, as she is a master of hiding her loathing of a Black president in the guise of politics.

Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-Antigay, spouting his homophobia as the word of god [little g]:

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage' and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Um, how does his bigotry fit into Christianity? How does it work in Christian love? And which part of the Bible asked him to hate?

Tony Perkins, AFA bigot-in-chief, on Chick-fil-Antigay, to his minions:

I love how the LGBT community is portrayed as hateful because we call into question a fast food chain that takes its customers money and funnels it into hate group—um, like the AFA.

Chick-fil-Antigay can do whatever they want to do with their money, just like I can do whatever I want to with mine.

And it won’t be buying sammiches at a hate food store.

Tony Perkins, AFA bigot-in-0chief—aftar saying Chick-fil-Antigay ha the right to fund whatever hate they choose, on Google being LGBT-friendly:

The web giant just kicked off a worldwide push called 'Legalize Love,' aimed at breaking down the barriers to homosexuality around the globe. Their biggest targets? We should all avoid high risk behaviors that might lead to contracting the virus. Wear a condom; don’t have unprotected sex; get yourself checked; don’t share needles.

But we aren’t deviants, we’re people, and it’s disgusting Barber doesn’t see that.

He is the reason there is still a stigma about HIV and AIDS; he's the problem, not any kind of solution, much less compassion.
