Texas Jury Says It's OK To Kill An Escort Who Takes Your Money And Doesn't "Deliver"
Ever since moving to this Little Red State, I have often
been heard to exclaim, well, shriek, It’s
not the heat, it’s the stupidity in regards to South Carolina and its
politics and bigotry and, well, stupidity. But I am proud to report this morning that we ain’t got
nuthin’ on Texas.
I posted yesterday about Skye Wyatt from Texas, whose high
school coaches outed her to her mother, who sued the school for violating Skye’s
privacy. And then a court declared that Skye isn’t entitled to privacy, at
least in regards to her sexual orientation.
Yeah, sometimes it’s just stupidity.
Like this case: a jury in someplace called Bexar County, Texas—quick
Google search shows it’s the county includes San Antonio—has just acquitted one
Ezekiel Gilbert of murder. Gilbert—who admitted to the shooting—had been
accused to gunning down 23-year-old Lenora Ivie Frago, an escort whom he found
on Craigslist, back in 2009. But, Gilbert says he had a right to shoot Frago because he paid
her $150 to have sex with him, and then she refused and wouldn’t return his
money. he says he didn't mean to kill her, he just wanted his money back, you know, so he pulled out a gun and shot her.
Yes, that’s the case and verdict. In Texas, Ezekiel Gilbert
was acquitted of murdering an escort because she refused to give his money
back. See, in Texas, where it is the stupidity,
there is a law which allows for the recovery of property by “law abiding
citizens” if the crime takes place at night.
The prosecutors argued that the law was not intended for
someone trying to force another person into an illegal act such as prostitution
but the Texas jury felt Gilbert was justified in murdering a woman because she
kept his ‘money for sex’ and didn’t give him the sex.
Ezekiel Gilbert, after the verdict:
“I sincerely regret the loss of the life of Ms. Frago. I’ve been in a mental prison the past four years of my life. I have nightmares. If I see guns on TV where people are getting killed, I change the channel.”
Too bad Ms. Frago won’t ever have the option of changing a
channel on a TV again, and too bad her murderer goes unpunished because,
apparently, in Texas, it’s perfectly legal to kill a prostitute if she takes
your money and does not perform the sexual act.
Yeah, it’s just the stupidity, with or without the heat.
