This midcentury marvel is located in the woods of Connecticut on a hill above the Byram River. This is a big house, with loads of space and spaces; you enter the home on the lower level, which houses an enormous guest room and en suite bathroom with a wall of sliding glass doors and views of the forest. From the foyer, you go upstairs to the main floor and enter a living room and another forest view; down a short set of stairs is the first of two, or perhaps three, sitting rooms on this floor, this one with its own wall of glass as well as a stone fireplace; there is access to a screened porch from the sitting room as well. Up a couple of steps is the dining room with its own fireplace and more windows to the surrounding wildlands, and behind the dining room on one side is an informal dining room or another sitting area, while behind the dining room on another wall is that third sitting area between the dining room and the primary suite. The primary suite has a hallway of closets that also serves as a dressing room, opening to a massive bathroom with double sinks, tub and shower and forest views. A quibble? Yes, I have one; for such an enormous house, a house designed for entertaining, the kitchen, a galley kitchen at that, seems small and tucked away—perhaps lose that third sitting room and make a grand chef’s kitchen? At any rate, beyond the kitchen, you’ll find two guest rooms, both ensuite, as well as a second stairway to the lower level. Out back are gorgeous gardens with mature trees and plantings and a secluded swimming pool. As always, click to emBIGGERate...

A lovely home for a family, just not me. I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteI like the surroundings but feel like the house has a lot of wasted interior spaces!
DeleteAs I said to Sixpence once, a little bit of Mid Century goes along way. I appreciate the style, but it's too much for me and often too much space to fill. I do however LOVE all the windows on this home to bring the outdoors in. I'd love that. That is the most breathtaking thing of the home for me. And as Coco Peru would say, the kitchen bothers me.
ReplyDeleteThe windows and the woods sell this house for me, but that kitchen is an airplane kitchen!
DeleteI like the concept of a steel and glass box in the trees, but the layout and finishes don't work for me. Far to many step ups from layer to layer. The 1980's white built ins are out of contact with the updates. There is a lot of wasted space, and as you pointed out a smallish kitchen for a rather large house. The rooms are at scale that needs larger furniture.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the different levels because some levels take you into the trees while others open up to the yard, but the kitchen bothers me as well as the large extra rooms.
DeleteThis might come as a surprise, but I like this one. I see there's no price tag, so I guess I'll just have to put it on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteIt was listed for $2.9M but has been sold ....
Delete🫡 Yup! I agree with the other commenters. I salute the concept and the amazing windows looking on amazing surroundings! But, this is NOT my concept of a home! As I scrolled through the photos, I kept expecting the next one to have Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane getting ready to kill a Ferrari!! 😱 And, while I love the idea of the place in late Spring, all Summer, and early Autumn, I literally freeze thinking of heating all that window-surrounded space in the Winter! The thought of stepping from the large tub into a gigantic tiled refrigerator has me shivering, in April, as I sit in the desert in El Paso, TX!! 🥶🏜
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right that it's not a winter house though the views of the snow would be wonderful!
DeletePositively stunning. I agree with you about that kitchen - it doesn't "fit" with the rest of the house. But, by golly, I could live there. Oh, yes, I could! I might have to figure out a way to make that an enclosed pool for year-round enjoyment, though.
ReplyDeleteBigger kitchen and enclose the pool; great ideas!
DeleteIt's not attractive externally. Masses of space inside, some rather wasted, and too many steps and different levels. Hopeless for a young family, but the views are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI don't really mind the levels but some of the rooms are beyond big and some of the rooms are unnecessary ... but the views!

ReplyDeletebitty kitchen!
xoxo :-)
Right? I'd need a larger one and made more open to the outside.

The second to last photo took my breath away. Otherwise, I'm in the same camp as others: too big, too many changes in level, and the kitchen is far too small. Though all the views out the windows are very nice.
ReplyDeleteYes, the property is just gorgeous, I agree!
DeleteViews great. The rest, as others stated so well, does nothing for me. Kitchen looks like a butler’s pantry…like the “real” kitchen must be elsewhere. And ugh, the white laminate bar thing.
ReplyDeleteIt would make a perfect butler's pantry now that you mention it!
DeleteI will pass it on to the next---Feels like boxes put together---I do love the landscape----The pool seems a little too big----More patio for outdoor living/entertaining----
ReplyDeleteIt is a series of glass and wood blocks stacked on one another.
DeleteVery beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the layout and of course, you had me at Mid Century. Love that style. I'm partial to this style of house with loads of light and whole walls being windows. I'm not disappointed. Nope.
XOXO
I agree that when the outside becomes inside it makes the house seem near perfect ... except for that damn kitchen!!!!! 😭😭😭
Deletexoxo
Definitely a beautiful home
ReplyDeleteIt could use some tweaks, but what house doesn't???
DeleteInteresting, sweetpea, but an easy pass for me. xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's not everyone's cup of tea. I like parts, and loathe other parts ... perhaps I could dismantle it and try again?
Deletexoxo
It's a bit orange for me but still lovely Mind you, that green plaid quilt on the bed sold it to me straight away!
ReplyDeleteI am going to make a note that if I ever want to sell you a house that I need several green plaid quilts!
DeleteAll those unnameable rooms are obviously unnecessary, but I love the style. I’d replace the colors and furnishings. Views are beautiful.
ReplyDelete"Unnameable rooms" is the perfect description!
DeleteThe new pad for the Brady Bunch after Mr Brady got his big promotion to VP at his architectural firm. :)
ReplyDeleteToo big ! But luv the grounds and the pool.
