What's This?

A Republican who isn’t Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger standing up to The Big Lie?

Yup, South Dakota’s GOP Senator, Mike Rounds,  was on ABC's "This Week" over the weekend and called Thing 45’s Big Lie a, well, big lie, and adding that “the election was fair":

"As a part of our due diligence, we looked at over 60 different accusations made in multiple states. While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state. The election was fair, as fair as we've seen. We simply did not win the election, as Republicans, for the presidency."

Rounds added that the GOP should focus on "what it's going to take to win the presidency. If we simply look back and tell our people, ‘Don't vote because there's cheating going on,’ then we're going to put ourselves in a huge disadvantage."

Best of all, Rounds was asked if he would support prosecution of Thing 45 if he’s found to be complicit in the January 6 insurrection, and he said that was the Justice Department's call, but, he also noted,  that the "shield of the presidency does not exist for someone who is a former president."

Smack.

Of course, being a Republican, he also showed his true colors saying he would not rule out supporting Thing 45 if he ran for president in 2024.

Let’s see …. He agrees that Thing 45 pushed a Big Lie about the election, and he believes the election was fair and the outcome true, and believes that Thing 45 may be prosecuted and cannot use Executive Privilege as a defense BUT … he might support the Big Lie pushing traitor in 2024.

Oh Mike, you almost went full Liz Cheney, and then you dropped back into the GOP party over country stance.

For his part, of course, Thing 45 released a statement slamming Rounds for going "woke" saying:

"Is he crazy or just stupid?"

Um, that would be a question for you , asshat.

  4. It is almost amusing to think of the way Repugnant senators and Congress persons cannot bear to gainsay the Bloated One, even when they know he is a liar and a cheat and a fraud....who else could possibly lead America through the abyss that the next few years will become with climate change, Putrid and his gang of thieves (Ali Putrid and the Forty Oligarchs?), Zi and his gang etc.. The world is becoming a very unsafe place

  5. I believe he's trying to shift the discussion away from The Big Lie by pointing out that's exactly what it is... a Big Lie.

    Fingers are crossed.

    @Debra
    It will, unless and until smarter minds take charge and stay in charge.

    @TDM
    I like your idea!

    @Helen
    Which is why Democrats need to vote in VERY SINGLE ELECTION they can, starting at the bottom and going all the way to the top.

    @DEave
    I like that he plainly states the election was fair, but not how he says he may support Thing 45 in '24.

  7. Think 45 is Crazy and a Moron, so that question was settled long ago. Rounds almost got there and did the typical thing they do, trying to straddle both sides of the ReTrumplican Aisle that hijacked the Party that used to exist and exists no more. If EVERY actual Conservative who Loved Country would bail on that Party and start afresh with a functional one that supports Democracy and protects it, I think they might possibly redeem themselves, but, it's not looking Promising that will happen when only Two had the integrity and Balls to break clean and do the Right thing. Most just switched to being Independent or Democrat... so perhaps the Independents should be stronger and replace the ReTrumps?

  8. He leaned back because he knows who puts money in his reelection campaign fund. Crook. All Repulsivecans are liars, hypocrites, thieves, and traitors. Including turncoat, Joe Manchin!

  9. It was interesting to see this rare example of common sense and truthfulness from a Republican. But yeah, sad that he dropped back to party boosterism in the end. (It cheers me to hear how livid Trump is with him!)
