For about a minute there it looked as though the Mormon Church, AKA the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was working on being a little less anti-LGBT.
Not so much. Last week, in an addition to the Mormon Handbook entitled Children of a Parent Living in a Same-Gender Relationship, the Church announced that it had decreed that children of same-sex couples may not be baptized or blessed:
"A natural or adopted child of a parent living in a same-gender relationship, whether the couple is married or cohabiting, may not receive a name and a blessing."
In addition, and just to make it perfectly clear that the Mormon Church is as anti-gay as ever, they also announced that the children of same-sex parents may not be baptized until they have reached "legal age" and no longer "live with a parent who has lived or currently lives in a same-gender cohabitation relationship or marriage."
Cuz you know, The Gay might rub off them and then they’ll bring it into the Church.
And then they also reiterated the fact that members of the Mormon Church who enter into a same-sex relationship or marriage will be punished as well:
"Under the new church policy, people in 'same-gender' marriage have been added to the list of those acts of circumstances that are considered apostasy and would be subject to disciplinary action. Historically, the church has excommunicated some members who have acted on their same-sex attractions." — via The Salt Lake Tribune
So, while they once seemed on a path toward tolerance and acceptance, at least for about a half a minute, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has taken a u-turn and headed back into their dark and hateful past, even going so far as to punish children because they have same-sex parents.
That’s what the Mormon religion is about, y’all, punishing children for the so-called sins of their parents.

Perhaps religions excluding LGBT families is not a bad thing. It means fewer people being indoctrinated.
ReplyDeletetearing families apart. made me very sad to read it today.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad news indeed. But interestingly enough, the Latter Day Saints have a structure in place that enables them, through their highest leadership, to announce a new revelation that could mean changes some day down the line. This happened when the church moved to forbid polygamy and again when it opened the priesthood to men of African descent.
ReplyDeleteMany other religious communities -- one thinks of the Catholic Church as a prime example -- will find it more difficult (never say impossible when it comes to these things) to change their stance in matters of this sort, insofar as they have been cast as matters of faith and not simply of discipline.
Now if I understand this correctly, any child who dies without being baptized will go to hell. So, the little baby the couple is so lovingly raising has no actual human value until such time as it meets the church's criteria for baptism. Only then will this evil organization recognize the child as a legitimate Child of God. Do you really think God approves of that?
ReplyDeleteGood lord, they have found the ultimate wedge to keep LGBT people hidden and continue to marry opposite sexed partners.
ReplyDeleteThey should be ashamed of themselves. Why does old usually equate with hate in a religious setting?
