Lauren Bacall; classy dame,
quite a broad; never one to mince words, she always told it like she meant it. Starting with her appearance
alongside future husband Humphrey Bogart in To
Have and Have Not, when she uttered one of my favorite film lines …
“You know how to whistle, don't you Steve? You
just put your lips together and blow.”
Bacall married Bogart in 1945
and they stayed married until he died of throat cancer in 1957. And though she
had affairs with the likes of Frank Sinatra, and married again, to Jason
Robards for eight years, she had made it very clear back in 1957 that Humphrey
Bogart was the one true love of her life.
On the day of his funeral she
slipped a whistle into his coffin.
RIP Lauren … Bogie’s
whistling.
