Earlier this week the New Hampshire House rejected a bill that sought to repeal the state's new gay marriage law. The vote, 210-109, on House Bill 1590 came right on the heels of the House's rejection of a proposed constitutional amendment, CACR 28, that said marriage could only be between a man and a woman.
Opponents of House Bill 1590 said it would be wrong to backtrack and to deny gays and lesbians the equal rights they fought for the state to recognize. Representative Robert Thompson, who married his partner in January, asked the House, "How has my marriage impacted upon your marriage or how has it diminished the value of your marriage?"
Still, there are those who don't understand how discriminatory the anti-marriage equality movement is; one such person, Representative John Cebrowski, said no gay partnership can be considered a true marriage, calling the notion "a cruel joke." He went on to utter, "The vast majority of adults out there know marriage is between man and woman. To engage in this flight of imagination ... with adults is downright cruel."
What's cruel, sir, is to deny equal rights to all of your citizens.
I'm glad they slapped it down
ReplyDeleteI love how he speaks for "the vast majority."
ReplyDeleteThis victory was sweet. Obviously Cebrowski found it a bit bitter tasting.
