Once again, in a post inspired by, or stolen from, Mistress Maddie, here are some things i like that are around the house.
When we moved into Casa Bob y Carlos, the foyer was red. I didn’t like it at all. Doesn’t mean I don’t like read because I had the outside of house, well, parts of it, painted red. But I didn’t like red inside …
So I chose a blue so dark it almost looks black, and in a semi-gloss so we’d get some sheen, and I think it looks amazing.
 
The art on the walls were gifts from a friend … here’s a close-up:
The hutch was originally an orange-y looking wood, but I painted it an olive green, and then spray-painted the inside in gold to highlights Carlos’ collection—or some of it—of teapots. The inset panels in the drawers were also painted gold.
I think it looks much better dark dark blue … sets the mood for the rest of the house.

Yes, the dark blue sets off the art and hutch much better. And a teapot collection! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteOh the blue by far looks better in that space. As your aware my bedroom is dark navy, not quite as dark as that thought. I like your house, because like mine, there is nothing there not for a reason, and that is what makes a home. Wonderful art.

ReplyDeleteI love it. We selected that blue for our long central hallway San Diego. The house was built in 1924, was vintage, and there were 5 doors, closets, and lots of woodwork in that hall. The paint was called Batik Blue and we thought it would be stunning. Only problem: The walls needed to be completely resurfaced. 70 years of settling and earthquakes and there wasn't a flat surface or a straight edge to be found. The bold contrast was a nightmare and we had to repaint. So disapppointing.

I really like the dark blue walls. Painting a wall a dark color is something that I've wanted to do for a long time! Maybe this is the inspiration I need.

The dark blue idea I got from friends whose dining room is that color. I feel in love the moment I saw it. And Carlos' collection, and there are more, is very cool.

I like red, but not in that space. It just looks better now; also the floor is blue slate so it all works better.

I LOVE to paint and always say when I get the whole house done, I'll start over and switch it up. We're almost to that point!

I was worried about the blue, and the sheen, but it worked out well. And i forgot about the cat; he was in our garden in Miami, but during a hurricane lost an ear, so we brought him inside where he'd be safe!

I tend to like darker colors; we have a dark green dining room and a black powder room. And that face in the painting always gets me.

ReplyDeleteAs I said, I found the color inspiration at a friends and took it; you can take it from us.
We have an attic room and I let the kids pick the colors when we first moved into this house. So of course, my daughter picked red. I painted the end walls (the smallest) with her red and then lighter colors for the long walls with black curtains. It came out better than I imagined.
