Architecture Wednesday: East Bay Midcentury

This home, located on a quiet cul-de-sac in the El Cerrito Hills, entered through a private courtyard into a welcoming foyer with light from the floor-to-ceiling windows drawing you in.

The iconic midcentury design creates a relaxing yet dramatic atmosphere, as you are surrounded by wood, black slate tile, vaulted ceilings, and stunning views of San Francisco and the Bay. The living room is grounded by an impressive fireplace and slate hearth—the perfect spot for gatherings, or simply to enjoy a good book—and there is an adjacent library-office just off the living room with pocket doors for creating a private space.

Also off the foyer is the dining area open to both the front courtyard and a wrap-around deck with impressive views. The kitchen is at the far end of the room with integrated appliances and all-wood cabinetry. Back in the foyer is the staircase down to the bedroom level with the primary suite, three secondary bedrooms, a bathroom, as well as the family and more decking for enjoying sunsets over the bay.

  2. O. M. G. When can I move in? I could almost live in that kitchen! The only flaw (for me) is the barred "wall." I'd probably change that out and match the rail.

    1. I kinda like that wall because it offers privacy and openness at the same time.

😍 Loving lots of windows to get light and the views of my beloved SF!! Unfortunately, that light also illuminates the mid-century interiors and I just cannot handle that! 😵‍💫
[On the other hand: hooray for yesterday's votes for democracy and women and diversity and youth and enthusiasm and politicians who can smile without looking like a psychopath imitating what they think real humans look like when smiling!! 😬]

    1. I like the simple lines of midcentury mixed with earthy elements.
I also liked the news this morning for the first time in a while.

  5. I know these houses are 'staged' but what always strikes me is the lack of books in them!

    1. Stagers find books too personal and try to keep the spaces generic.

  6. Gorgeous! All those windows would make for fun times watching the fog roll in, not to mention the City lights.xoxo

  9. Just the kind of design I love! I wish they'd shown us a better pic of the view, though.

  10. The living room is a great space to "enjoy a good boo"...I'd want at least a bearskin rug. :) I know it's a typo for book but the alternative made me giggle.
I love all the light coming into the rooms. Though like Steve I'd like more photos of the view.

    1. Maybe I meant 'boo' like in my boo, Carlos ....

      Or maybe I dropped a 'k'.
