I am still on a high from the joy, the intelligence, the decency, the love, the compassion, the friendships, the sheer beauty of the opening of the Obama Center. It reminds me of how we used to be when we didn't have a president spout hate-filled rhetoric, or sell America to the highest bidder to line his own pockets, to start wars to deflect from his involvement in the Epstein scandal. I want to go back to that other America when we could be proud of our leaders, perfect and imperfect.; where our leaders worked toward equality for all, not just their rich friends who bought votes. I want to go back to leaders who spoke to all of us, no matter our skin color or gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, non-religion; we were all part of the conversation. I will hold onto this feeling until November when I cast my vote for change here in South Carolina and I will keep it close in 2028 when I vote for a new President and new Congress and new Senate. Hope. |

DeleteBut the Obama Centre didn't have a large luxury plane to take the place of books so Donald Duck's memorial has already got more wow going for it, even if the duck can't read.
ReplyDeleteHis "wow" cost the American people $400,000,000+ while the Obama center was built with private funds.
DeleteDonald Duck is very parsimonious with his own money, so he likes to spend the American tax payers taxes to make himself look big.
DeleteA friend of mine got a preview visit to the Obama Center because her son works with Obama. She said it is fabulous and so inspiring. The opening speeches were so full of sanity and love and encouragement. I was left with hope for a better future, too.

DeleteBill Clinton famously said, "I still believe in a place called Hope". And here in Sheffield, I also believe in a place called Hope. It is a village five miles away in The Hope Valley. I wonder which valley The Fake President resides in..."I still believe in a place called Grift".

DeleteIt was refreshing to see the joy of those in attendance at the Obama library. It was a wonderful reminder of what has been and could be again.
ReplyDeleteI do have fears that the November elections will be difficult with the failure of the courts to deal appropriately with unfair district lines. But I think there are signs that even Republicans are angry with IQ45 and may either sit out or vote Blue.

This week the Georgia GOP shelved plans to redistrict after more than a thousand citizens showed u p at the statehouse to express their disapproval.

DeleteI agree completely with the coverage I saw and the opening of the Obama Presidential library What a multi use complex too...not just a library. And even though they all don't agree politically on everything...it was great to see all the past presidents and first ladies come together and they all looked happy....and they all acted like mature grown ups and got along.

DeleteAs ELO sings "Hold on Tight To Your Dream", it's one of my favourite songs and it gives me hope when I hear it. I read the Obama speeches online, so much better than any "speech" made by that orange blob who can barely string together a coherent sentence.
