Situated in the heart of Beacon, New York, this 4,559-square-foot loft with three bedrooms, three full- and two half-baths, is located in a former silk factory. The duplex residence seamlessly blends modern sophistication with authenticity and an understated elegance with walls of patinated brick accented with hand-carved pillars and beams, that pay homage to the building’s rich history.
On the main floor is a dining area and kitchen, as well as a guest bedroom with en suite, a powder room and the primary suite. Down the iron staircase, captivated by dramatic 20-foot-high ceilings, is the great room with two tiers of windows directly on the creek that floods the space with natural light and the calming sound of moving water, as well as a family room that opens to a private courtyard, a large office, a gallery space and a second guest room with ensuite and another powder room.
Thanks to climate change, I'm betting that is now in a flood zone.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a high river photo!
DeleteMildew comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm, okay.
DeleteI know, I'm such a Deedles downer when it comes to buildings and the like. Plus, I think my flu shot and Covid vaccination gave me the flu and Covid. Kidding. I'm miserable though.
DeleteWhere do I sign up!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!I love the urban feel of this place....and love the raw feel to some of it. And on the water? Im there!!! Love the multi finishes in this place. And all the windows.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, though I wouldn't need all that gallery space!
DeleteBeautiful! I could live in that - especially with that kitchen and that deck. I sure hope it doesn't flood when that creek rises!
ReplyDeleteThat creek might pose a concern ... but the space is very nice.
DeleteNicely done. I wouldn't want to own the lowest level in that building, tho. That water looks like it could flood that level.
ReplyDeleteIt does look that way, but I cannot imagine they'd build that out if the water was a threat.
DeleteI agree with Dave R. and Ellen D. about that river. Maybe because the photo was taken in Fall, but that is not a beautiful setting and appears to already be at some stage of flooding! Other than that, I wish I needed that much space because it is perhaps the most wonderful repurposing you've ever shown us!! Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!! 👍👍
ReplyDeleteIt is a great space, though a bit too large for me, though I think the river might not be as much of an issue as it appears.
DeleteWhat a lovely space! I love the idea of repurposing the silk factory. The outdoor space is great for unwinding and relaxing, and I love the fireplace for those chilly days. The gallery space is unique. Back in the day, I visited a guy who hosted our gay group and his home was like a museum. All types of art media. The house was simple to highlight the art. The gallery of this home would be great for that purpose. Some of those bedrooms need my touch of color and spunk. Love the light. The only thing I would revisit is those can/overhead lights. The living room looks like a runway to land plans as do other home parts. I prefer lamps. The wall treatment in one of the bedrooms and bathroom needs to be revisited. As others have mentioned, I like to know more about the river. All in all great choice. Thank you for your offering.
ReplyDeleteI could lose the gallery space because for me it would be useless for me but I love the design.
DeleteThe dog's mother
ReplyDeleteYes, same concerns about
the river!
xoxo :-)
Yeah, it does look like an issue though I wonder how they could build that out and not have a plan.
DeleteNice place, and I like all the brick. I would be a little nervous being that close to the river, though.
ReplyDeleteIt does look kind of high but I cannot imagine they were allowed to build that space out without a concern for the river,
DeleteBeautiful place but the river just makes me think of Asheville.
DeleteSWEETMARYSUNSHINE! The first floor is as big as my ENTIRE house in Savannah was! It certainly is a magnificent example of adaptive reuse, but like so many others have said, I worry about the proximity to the river, sweetpea! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI do love the wide open spaces and the windows and all that brick! A bit too big for me but ...
DeleteThis is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at 'former silk factory'. THIS is how I saw myself living as a grown up when I was sixteen. Poor delusional gayling.
XOXO
I think all the gays saw this as their house!
Deletexoxo
I think it is great that an old building such as this has been adapted for modern usage, but I don't really have an opinion on the design itself. It might be a place that you need to visit to ensure it doesn't feel too cavernous.
ReplyDeleteI think some of the spaces are way too large, though I love the old bricks and some of the rooms.
DeleteAlthough I enjoy these Wednesday beauties there is something obscene about "single family" homes of this size. Why do you need 5 toilets in a 3 bedroom house. I suppose if you had some kind of bladder or bowel condition it would be useful.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the excess of bathrooms. I can remember my parents' first house ... a family of five with ONE bathroom!
DeleteI do love the Hudson though.
ReplyDeleteToo clinical for me. It reminds me of a multi-storey car park!
ReplyDeleteI get that from the office and the gallery, but the rest, with the brick and windows seems warm to me.
