Jim Obergefell, American civil rights activist and lead
plaintiff in the 2015 US Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, which
legalized same-sex marriage throughout the country, on the SCOTUS decision:
“The Court did the right thing in denying cert, and people
across our nation can breathe a little easier today but threats to marriage
equality will likely continue, so we must not assume marriage, or any rights
enjoyed by or due to any marginalized community, is safe. Kim Davis should have
lived up to her oath and duties as a public servant by serving everyone in
Rowan County, Kentucky; instead, she chose to use her faith to persecute
others. It is past time for others in our nation to understand that a person’s
faith is not harmed by others who are different. Someone exercising a civil
right does not prevent a believer from continuing to practice their faith at
home or in their house of worship. As the Sixth Circuit said when denying Kim
Davis’s appeal, the Bill of Rights ‘would serve little purpose if it could be
so freely ignored whenever an official’s conscience so dictates,. I hope the Supreme Court halts further
attempts by public officials to use their personal faith to deny others their
civil and human rights.”
This is not the end of our fight, but it is a great step
forward.
My being gay has zero affect on anyone’s faith; you can be
whatever faith you choose without having to worry about me. And if you think it
affects you, then you might want to rethink your faith.

Does anybody in power ever tell the truth?
ReplyDeleteRarely.
DeleteShapiro and Pete are gonna run for president.
ReplyDeleteMark my words. And all of those protecting Cankles? Massie is right: they’re sealing their future. But their constituents KNOW that….
Adelita!
XOXO
I could get into a Shapiro/Buttigieg presidential sammich!
Deletexoxo
Josh Shapiro is absolutely right about JD Vance, that malevolent hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteThe CouchF*cker is a lying hypocritical POS.
DeleteThese are all SO good! Expect them all to make a reappearance elsewhere! (i.e. thanks for doing all the hard work)
ReplyDeleteShare away!!

So many professed Christians seem unable to follow the teachings of Christ, or is it that they don't want to? The world would be a better place if they did.
ReplyDeleteFaux Christians who wear that as a label to make their hate seem Christ-like.
DeleteIt's not.

DeleteGood Post! Shapiro simply rocks. And Mayor Pete? Democrats couldn't ask for a better ass kicker.
ReplyDeleteI think both Josh and Pete give good smackdowns!
DeleteWe DO need another hero. Great people. And, yes, MTG is STILL MTG. Glad she’s getting some things right recently, but she’s ignorant, self-serving, and can’t be trusted.
ReplyDeletePete Buttigieg for president in 2028!
ReplyDeletePresident Marjorie Taylor Greene - that title has a nice ring to it. Like the ship's bell aboard "The Titanic". Is she trying to demonstrate that leopards really can change their spots?
ReplyDeleteJim Obergefell is completely right. We might have won this small flight, but will the day ever come that we won't have to worry about a fight let alone a battle?
ReplyDeleteAnd a big old snap from Jasmine. Go girl!
