Part of the inheritance from my father’s estate arrived in
South Carolina this week—that’s it up there—and I was happy to see it.
This Seth Thomas Mantle Clock was purchased by my mother and
father on their honeymoon in 1955 … so it’s been in our family for nearly 70
years.
For a long while the clock didn’t work, though it would
mysteriously chime every so often, but when I got my first job in high school,
I decided to steal the clock from the house and have it fixed and then gift
it back to the family on Christmas morning.
Luckily, no one missed it for the couple of weeks it was
missing, and then on Christmas day, I got up early, wound the clock and set the
time, and then when it went off at 7AM, and actually chimed the correct number,
I told my family what I had done.
My Dad said then and there that the clock would be mine, and
here it is. |
That clock story is really touching. I am glad that you have it now. Elonia Musk....what a shit show.
ReplyDeleteI like the sense of history behind the clock!
DeleteLovely clock & story. Miss Lindsey must be so jealous of Elonia.
ReplyDeleteMiss Lindsey must also be wondering why she wasn't invited to join the Cabinet, or as they call it on Facebook, The Junk Drawer!
DeleteA beautiful clock with happy memories attached to it! Rosita will adjust in time, I'm sure. (See what I did there, lol?)
ReplyDeleteI see it, and you're right!!! Tick.Tock.
DeleteWhat a thoughtful Christmas gift restoring the clock was for your mom and dad. Cooper Koch? ...a certain nude scene? Having seen the story of Erik and Lyle hashed and rehashed and rehashed over the years, I’m now rethinking my decision to not watch yet another rehashing of their story on Netflix ..... maybe I'll just fast forward to Koch’s nude scene.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see Cooper's performance, though I did see some photos ....

Rosita is funny when the clock chimes!

Carlos has another pair of shoes at home, almost the same. We need more fuzzy butts and fewer a-s in the white house. Melanoma declined the traditional meeting with the first lady yesterday, apparently her response was that she already had things on her calendar and she has been there before.
ReplyDeleteMelanie is a bitter woman married to a man she doesn't love and doesn't care for her, and that's exactly what she deserves. I used to feel sorry for her, but in her own words, "I don't care, do U?"
DeleteI knew you were a sweetheart deep down, Bob. What a nice clock story!
ReplyDeleteI hide my sweetness quite well, don't I?
DeleteOur family clock is one my grandparents had, an American chiming mantel clock, well over 100 years old. I had it repaired for my Dad, but unfortunately he was dementing and broke the mechanism. I now have it and my nieces will have it after me.
ReplyDeleteI like having this piece of family history!
DeleteThree years ago my left knee was swollen like a cantaloupe and the short version is MRI: moderate to severe osteoarthritis; several courses of PT, several improvements and relapses, cortisone injections, more PT, good days, bad days. I don't want to go through a knee replacement. Then I found Dr. David Middaugh of El Paso Physical Therapy on YouTube (Yes, YouTube!) who stresses exercises to strengthen the glutes rather than some of the other PT routines I was doing. This seems to have helped tremendously (provided I am doing the exercises at least 3 times a week). Maybe it will help Carlos.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I only wish my glutes looked like that hunk above.
DeleteI mention that to Carlos and he can try it. Thanks!
Delete💩 Hey Rudy Tooty: If you can’t pay the dime, don’t do the crime!! Or something like that! 🤪 Speaking of bankruptcy news: The LA Times reported this morning that as part of the Sandy Hook judgment against Alex Jones, his “Infowars” site was up for auction…the highest bidder and new owner is “The Onion” satirical site!! 🤣🤣 Sometimes there can be joy in the bleakest of times!! 🤩
ReplyDeleteP.S. Tuxedo rocks...always and forever! 😻
I love The Onion story! high-larious.
DeleteAnd poor Drunkle Rudy; no booze or hair dye?
Tuxedo is THE rock star!
Carlos is so fashion forward. Or maybe it’s backward. Whatever. I wish Tuxedo could have made you some money. Our cats ran from the first time they heard the grandfather clock. They adjusted eventually. Cooper Koch is hot but too young for my taste... but hot, I mean really hot. I’m surprised the Orange Idiot allows Baron to appear in photos with him. He towers over him. Too bad he’ll turn out just like the others. And Musk Melon’s head is much bigger. Doesn’t that bother him?
ReplyDeleteCarlos is fashion somewhere!
DeleteRosita's calming down a bit so there's hope.
Cooper is young, and I just found out that he has a twin brother who is also gay; the mind spins!
The Felon will go nuts if Elon starts getting more notice.
Love, love love! The clock and the clock story. Awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteAnd Elonia Musk? Perfect.
And there's nothing, and I say NOTHING! like Working Class, pure Blue Collar cakes. Highly recommend.
XOXO
Those cakes are nice.
DeleteI love that King came up with Elonia, the new First Lady!
xoxo
Does this mean that Elonia's nudies will be published on the internet?
ReplyDeletePlease wait before you reply. I have to get the brain bleach.

Oh goddess, my eyes!!!! I hope that never happens. I mean, seeing his flabby Crisco body once nearly scared me to death ...
DeleteWell, I say fashun is in the eye of the beholder! Go Carlos! Cool story about your mantel clock until it terrorized your puddy-tat! And si to Eric...
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, one order of cakes to go, please!
DeleteClocks and cakes and shoes, oh my!!
DeleteThe Tales of Carlos is a hoot this week. Sorry to hear about the arthritis but I hope the medical professionals can help him out and make him more comfortable. Love the clock and hope Rosita learns to live with it. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWe had some fun with his shoe game this week.
DeleteRosita still jumps at the chimes, but she's stopped roaring from the room!
I too have a Seth Thomas Mantle Clock. It's my favorite thing is my whole home. Tell Carlos not to feel to bad. I have done much the same with two different heels. But it could be worst, imagine the fall out if it had been a slip-on boat shoe and a croc. The Mistress would have went plum crazy.
ReplyDeleteI love your mantel clock story, sweetpea! I had my Grandpa's clock, but sadly, it was stolen from my MIL's house whilewe were living overseas.*sigh* xoxo
