When I first heard this story — that the New York Giants had hired former player David Tyree — I thought, Who cares?
Oh, I knew he was a big anti-marriage equality foe. In the summer of 2011, Tyree claimed that if New York passed same-sex marriage, it would "be the beginning of our country’s sliding toward, you know, it’s a strong word, but anarchy." He also said, “two men will never be able to show a woman how to be a woman" — whatever that means — and then tossed this one on the fire:
“How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all the sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or an agenda and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country, not founded by man, something that’s holy or sacred?”
Well, people were outraged that the Giants hired him and, as I said, I thought, Who cares? I mean, do we really want every single person on the planet who is against same-sex marriage or LGBT rights to be denied employment? I’m not; I don’t mind people having different points of view, just don’t use yours to legislate against me. But then …. I heard that Tyree will be the Giants’ new Director of Player Development, a position described by Giants Coach Tom Coughlin as such:
“Player engagement has become extremely important in any franchise,” Coughlin said. “It is the working relationship with the players to aid them in their continuing education, their development as young men, the opportunities in the business world and in networking in the city that they happen to be playing in. It is there to help instruct them, make them aware of the issues and the problems that exist out in the community and the world to try to keep them focused on their job and not fall into trouble."
In other words, Tyree, an anti-gay marriage activist and born-again Christian will serve as a mentor to new NFL Giants players. Now, I’m pissed off!

The more clowns in the GOP Clown Car the better. I say let the crazies dilute the pool like they did in 2012.
ReplyDeleteI’m with you on the news about Two and a Half Bad Ideas. I find the rumored plot twist to be in poor taste and not the least bit funny. Didn’t this show jump the shark years ago? It’s like they’re padding the catalogue for syndication or something.
Great post!
Yes Bob, another great post! Hey, I'm glad you're getting involved in the marriage equality real action in South Carolina. You will succeed and I'm telling you, the high you get when you do succeed is unbelievable. I hope it happens soon for you and Carlos.
ReplyDeleteChristians need to learn that the world doesn't revolve around them and their wacky belief system. If they don't like/agree with something um DONT DO IT! 'Tis legal to smoke, but do I, hellz no! If someone doesnt want to: marry a same sex partner, have an abortion, drink, smoke, drive a car, or believe in evolution, then dont. But dont muck up the pond for the rest of us, ok?
ReplyDeleteGreat post, as usual!!!
Jeezus Christ, 2-1/2 Men is still on the air? Who the fuck watches that turd of a show?
ReplyDeleteoh, Bette Midler :-)
ReplyDeleteSo are American Christian zealots against discrimination against Muslims and their zealots? Are Muslim extremists allowed to air their very discriminatory beliefs too? After all what is good for the Christians must be allowed for other religions as well?
ReplyDeleteChristians (though it's not all of them, but try telling that to the loud-mouths) insist on their EXCLUSIVE right to discriminate because they're only obeying 'God' (at least their version of it). It bugs me no end that so many STILL can't see the flaws in the argument and where it takes us. It only makes 'sense' in a Christian theocratic state, such as the Vatican City - the only one existing, as far as I know - and, the last time I looked, the USA and its neighbours, in fact all countries of the entire 'Western World', (with that sole exception) do not belong to that category, despite these same pushers for discrimination wishing it were so. Accept it and shut the f*ck up - for (your) God's sake!
ReplyDelete......and one thing more. I'd have more respect for such people (well, maybe just a little) if they actively campaigned for a theocracy instead of pretending that they already have one.
ReplyDeleteOMG .... religion like a penis! LOL!! OK - I read a GREAT book on this same topic by Chris Hedges "American Fascists". Loved it.
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER watched Two and a Half Men, mainly because of douchebag Charlie Sheen. Ashton Kutcher ... what a goofball.
