Isaac Humphries, former professional basketball player came
out in November 2022 as the first openly gay player in Australia's National
Basketball League, on retiring from the sport because of a knee injury:
“I am so sad to say goodbye like this.
Sometimes life deals you cards that tell you story for you, and due to my
continued knee injury I’ve had to make the incredibly difficult decision to
retire. I’ll miss my teammates. The laughs. The trenches. I’ll miss the fans, those,
and the feeling of having an entire community behind you. I gave so much of my
life to this sport, and it gave a life I never could have imagined right back.
There is so much more to say, but for now, just thank you. I hope the identity
I’ve created lives on in every person who wears my jersey, and in every place I
was lucky enough to call home. It’s not exactly a 'Goodbye,' but maybe an 'Until I
see you again.' So for now, and from your number 8, thank you.”
One of only six men’s pro basketball players to ever come
out, Humphries instantly saw his popularity increase as most people realized
you can be an athlete and gay; and you can be a member of a team and still be
gay.
It’s just that simple.

I just followed Humphries on insta.
ReplyDeleteWe need more out people in sports. They’re still fantastic at the sport. They just happen to be LGBTQ. And I really hope Talarico wins. If he doesn’t, Texas can go to hell and complain there. And Trixie is right.
XOXO
Dan Rather and Trixie have it going on.
ReplyDeleteRoberts should definitely be taken down. That coalition on the SCOTUS needs to be broken apart. ... It's all Moscow Mitch's doing. All of it.
The main two things that must frustrate Republicans - especially those who reside in Texas - about James Talarico is that he is intelligent and thoroughly decent. These are not traits they are used to contesting or possessing.
ReplyDeleteHating people for issues they cannot change is bad for the hater. It can also be hurtful for the hated too. But when the haters profess to follow a religion that wants people to love one another it is beyond belief that they make exceptions so they can hate those who don't fit into their unpleasant "virtues".
ReplyDeleteTalarico scores a bulls-eye - again! And Trixie also gets it dead-right perfect!
ReplyDeletethe dog's mother
ReplyDeletexoxo :-)
I wish every traitorous supporter of the orange git would read your blog, sweetpea! We can disagree about pineapple on a pizza, but NOT about morality and ethics in government! VOTE BLUE and pay attention! xoxo
ReplyDeleteJames Talarico!!! Great quotation.
ReplyDeleteHumphries was quite brave. Dworkin is correct. And I grew up watching Dan Rather, there is something to be said about the wisdom in old men.
ReplyDeleteExcellent retort from Talarico. I'd love to see Roberts and a couple of other justices impeached.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
If the Dems ever regain power, there should be a whole lot of impeaching going on at SCOTUS! Trixie Mattel: mic drop.
ReplyDeleteI dream of the lunatics finally getting what’s coming to them. You’ve shared some of my heroes.
ReplyDeletePeople around the world are watching and waiting for the outcome of the midterms. As Tundra says, there should be a mountain of impeachments, starting at the very top.
