This Carlos story needs a flashback because we dig deep …
When we first moved to Camden and purchased Casa Bob y
Carlos, we asked Carlos’ Aunt Gloria to visit, and she did … in December when
it’s frigid in Camden. And Gloria had only ever lived in Mexico City and Miami
and San Juan, so the cold was not her thing. But we tried to make her comfortable
and raised the heat while she was here; it got so hot in the house I was in
T-shirt and shorts the whole time, but Gloria never felt warm. One day she
opened the door to her room and shouted down the hallway:
“Please, boys, turn up the heat. I will happily pay the
bill.”
Turn it up we did but she was never warm—which is why she
never visited in winter again—but the joke was on us because when she left and
I was cleaning the guest room I noticed the vents in her room, and in her
bathroom, were all closed! Oy.
So, cut to this morning, and I turn on the AC at about 7:30.
We keep the AC at 80-degrees because there are ceiling fans in every room and
the house stays cool, but as I walked into the kitchen Carlos says:
“I’ll gladly pay the AC bill for some cool air.”
And I responded thusly:
“You picked the wrong morning to fuck with me.”
“What—"
“I got the most horrendous cramp in my foot at 3AM and
couldn’t sleep the rest of the night. I got up to take an aspirin hoping that
would ease the pain and hobbled into the kitchen to find … we had no aspirin or
Tylenol or anything thing. So I lay in bed wincing and tossing and turning.”
“I thought I told you we needed Ty—”
“Nope, save that story, sister, because if you’d said we
needed Tylenol we would have Tylenol.”
“Well, I also had a bad night’s sleep because when I came to
bed at 11:30 your phone kept making that sound it makes when you plug the
charger into it and I had to get up in the dark and search the room for your phone
to unplug it and plug it back in and then try to get some sleep.”
“Did you get some sleep?”
“I did.”
“Well I didn’t get any sleep and so now you will be paying
for that for the rest of your natural life.”
Well, at least until the end of the day. |
Oh my, that closed vents story!!!! Poor Aunt Gloria!
ReplyDeleteWe never told her but she preferred visiting us in warmer weather!
DeleteAnd we learned to check the vents when we have house guests.
Spouses...if they would only _____. amiright?
ReplyDeleteBut Rosie looks so sweet....
You're right.
DeleteIn Rosie's case, looks aren't everything, but she's still a sweetheart most days!
It's not just cats that do weird things (although Wolfie frequently walks across my keyboard when I am trying to type something) at my friend's house a few weeks ago I was sitting back on the sofa when her youngish springer spaniel, named Mimi, ran across the top of the sofa and over my head. Colour me surprised and my friends falling about laughing.
ReplyDeleteI have never had a dog run over me; cats? Many many times!
Delete“Save that story, sister” is now added to my vocabulary and LOL at that meme of Mitch the conflicted ass kissing ghost.
ReplyDeleteLuckily Carlos gets my humor and doesn't take it seriously but loves to play along!
DeleteOh my goodness, the closed vents with Aunt Gloria! 😭 That is peak houseguest comedy—freezing in a sauna because the vents were shut! And 'Save that story, sister' is an absolute all-time line, Bob. Poor Carlos picked the absolute worst morning after a 3 AM foot cramp to quote Tia Gloria! Loved the Tuxedo throwback and Rosita's priceless expression, too.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, the next time she visited vents were fully operational!
DeleteCarlos did pick the wrong morning and we had a good laugh about it.
Rosita loves a good Resting Bitch Face™.
Rosita looks like one hell of a big cat - the size of a young tiger or a German shepherd. I wouldn't wish to wrestle with her in the middle of the night. As we do have air-conditioning, I do not understand the problem with closing "the vents". What are vents anyway?
ReplyDelete...do NOT have air-conditioning.
DeleteRosita is a curvy girl and looks tough and looks large but she's a real pussy cat most of the time.
DeleteVents are where the hot air, or cool air, depending if you are heating or cooling the house, enter the rooms.

Our thermostat has been set at 72.5 for a while now. During one winter visit to South Dakota to see SG’s sister, he snuck out in the middle of the night and checked into a hotel because it was so fricking cold. I thought it was delightful. His sister was furious when she got up for work and saw our car was gone and I then told her where he was. After work, she stormed into the house, marched him to the thermostat, and said, “If you’‘re cold, you just turn this up a little. We’ll manage! ... Oh. I forgot to turn it on last night.”
ReplyDeleteCarlos cleaned the house and reorganized a closet with you. He and SG just veered off from each other drastically.
We keep our thermostat at 80, but have ceiling fans in nearly every room, so the house is quite comfy! Every so often, though, Carlos will use his phone to control the thermostat and I'll come home from work to find the house cooling to 65!!!
DeleteCarlos does like to do some cleaning, though the reorganizing AKA thinning the herd of the closet was mostly my doing.
Commiserations on the cramp. I often find myself tramping the bedroom floor while my husband slumbers on.
ReplyDeleteCarlos used to sleep through hurricanes when we lived in Miami so I found it odd that a noise from a cell phone woke him up!
DeleteYeah....and you know what??? The Muslim mayor is working hard and has ALREADY done things he said he do for New Yorkers!!! What he was elected to do and is delivering his promises. All other politicians...take note!
ReplyDeleteSophie Cunningham. Is she afraid of some competition???
The married life....I still see a sitcom in your future sweet cheeks🤣🤣
Mamdani is doing what he says, something both parties have a hard time doing!
DeleteSophie is looking for attention.
I may call Bravo and offer up The Real Husbands of Camden ....
Lmaooo ‘For the rest of your natural life’. I have to use that sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteTransphobes are just famewhores. Desperately in need of attention.
Mamdani is showing the Dems how it’s done. I’d do Ossoff for democracy. You know, for the country.
XOXO
You're spot on about the transphobes; they've nothing better to offer.
DeleteI like Ossoff in both ways!

Are you certain Repubs are dumb...or just dum?
ReplyDeleteYou and Carlos clearly understand one another...as does Rosita. :)
Carlos totally gets my whack job humor and Rosita knows everything.
DeleteAre GOPers dum or dumb? Yes and yes!
Yes, the nuclear code thing is ironic. And yes Osoff is hot.
ReplyDeleteOssoff is hot and smart, a lethal combination!
DeleteStepping up against trans people in sports? How does that protect children? What a dumb excuse.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't. It's just the "new" fear.
