Marlon Wayans, on supporting his transgender son, Kai,
through his transition:
"It taught me true, unconditional love. I've never been
married because I was never ready for marriage. And I went through this journey
with my child, and it taught me to love unconditionally. At the end of the day,
are my children happy? And if they're happy, then I'm happy for them. My job as
a father is to protect, respect and honor my children, and make sure they feel
supported. It's not my job to judge them; it's my job to love them. All of my
kids are gifts, and our love is the wrapping paper. And if you think
you're gonna bully my child, go somewhere else. It's not going to happen. I
won't stand for it. I'm not here for hate. Transphobia is a form of hate.
Homophobia is a form of hate. Racism is a form of hate. All those
small-hearted, small-minded people, there's a hell for you. And if you think
you’re gonna bully my child, go somewhere else. It’s not going to happen.
I won’t stand for it.”
This is how you parent, as I always say … unconditionally,
supportive, loving.

Holy shit.
ReplyDeleteCher is 80???
She’s fabulous.
Mamdani is the future, babes. If Dem politicians are not taking notes they’re fools.
Marcia and Marlon are fantastic people. THAT is parenting.
XOXO
People, well, Dems, need to watch Mamdani and follow his lead or they will fall by the wayside.

Did you ever hear the song "Sing If You're Glad To Be Gay" by Tom Robinson?
ReplyDeleteThe British police are the best in the world
I don't believe one of these stories I've heard
About them raiding our pubs for no reason at all
Lining the customers up by the wall
Picking out people, knocking them down
Resisting arrest as they're kicked on the ground
Searching their houses, calling them queer
I don't believe that sort of thing happens here
That was back in 1978. I believe there is much more enlightenment in this country now. Much more natural acceptance of LGBTQ folk - our brothers and our sisters.
Thanks for sharing the lyrics and then for your comments.
DeleteWe are all brothers and sisters.
What a most welcome relief to read this litany of positivity, with (who else but?) your hottie NYC mayor at top. Makes one feel that despite all that's going on - and for so long! - there's yet STILL real hope for the future. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt does release the positivity into the air!!
DeleteAccept all for the characters they are.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Why some people think that's hard to do, or wrong, is beyond me.

Zohran Mamdani continues to shock and impress me. And he knows his gay history which is even more impressive. Other politicians should take notes.
ReplyDeleteMamdani, right now, is the party I want to see in power.
DeleteAs a parent it is most important to love your children, to encourage them to be who they truly are, to support them through the travails of life. Children today face very different futures from those that faced us and our children need our help more than ever.
ReplyDeleteLove and respect. It's not that hard to do!
DeleteThe LGBTQ+ community has quite an honorable legacy in NYC. Where would the country be without them?
ReplyDeleteYet, here we are again.
The pendulum of history swinging back ...
DeleteI loved reading all of these testaments. Thank you so much for sharing them.

DeleteMamdani has a beautiful smile.
ReplyDeleteYes, he does ... and he has the smarts, too!
DeleteThe best is yet to be :) π³️π
ReplyDeleteWe will all get there no matter the obstacles.

What a welcome, uplifting litany of absolute positivity, Bob! Every single one of these quotes carries so much strength, fierce historical grounding, and genuine heart. Marlon and Marcia Gay are demonstrating exactly what true, unconditional parenting looks like, and Patti giving her flowers right back to the community is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing these incredible testaments—Happy Pride!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pride, sir.
DeleteI was lucky to find these quotes, and others, that I will share this month!

Great quotes, Bob. Happy Pride Month to you and Carlos!

Strong voices are needed to counteract the hatred and fear of LGBTQ+ community that exists in the curent administration. It's good to hear these quotes.
ReplyDeleteOne of our local school divisions recently declared the second week in June (it's a start) to be Pride week in perpetuity. Pride events are planned throughout the month in various communities as well. I'm glad to see the recognition, especially in our redneck province.
It's a nice step forward when we seem to be moving backwards a bit!
DeleteThank you for these today. Nothing but good, smart people, exceptional human beings. They DO exist. They DO have voices. And they WILL be heard.
ReplyDeleteYessir, and we can all share them.
DeleteMandami is rocking New York! Cher's going to be 80?!?!? Shit!
ReplyDeleteMamdani rockin' the NYC and Cher just plain rockin'.
DeleteWell said, all of them. Cher is 80?
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteFantastic quotes, all of them. I must confess I didn't realize Cher is still making hit records, but I admire a lot of her older music!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Marcia. Yeah, Marlon. I continue to fall in love with Mamdani, but no one can make me forget my darling Mayor Pete.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
